The exact buttons can differ between a console, the Xbox app on Windows, a mobile app, and the web, so use the current Xbox Support instructions for your device rather than relying on an old universal menu path.
For organization across a large library, an independent service such as TrueAchievements can add sorting and filtering. It is not an Xbox feature, and you should check its current account-linking, data-handling, and availability details before connecting an account. Several newer Xbox features announced in 2026 are still limited to Insider preview groups.

What Xbox records for your games
Before choosing a tracking method, separate the information Xbox actually records from the way it displays it. A single game can have a playtime total, a list of achievements, a Gamerscore contribution, activity in your history, and a profile presentation that you can control.
Time played
Xbox has an official support page titled Time played for checking how long you have played games. The current instructions can change with the device and app version. The retrieved support material does not establish one universal sequence of buttons, so do not assume that a console menu, the Windows Xbox app, and a mobile interface use identical labels. Open the current Time played support guidance and select the instructions for the platform you are using.

Playtime is a useful activity measure, but it is not the same as completion. A long-running multiplayer title may accumulate many hours without a high achievement percentage, while a short single-player game may reach completion quickly. Treat the time figure as a record of reported play sessions, not as a judgment of skill or value.
Achievements
Achievements are game-specific objectives that award Gamerscore when you unlock them. Xbox exposes them through your profile and through each game’s achievement list. From those surfaces you can review what you have earned, inspect what remains, and see the progress value attached to an achievement. The exact layout varies, but the underlying distinction is consistent: an achievement list is about objectives, while Time played is about duration.
Gamerscore and completion history
Gamerscore is the cumulative score credited to your Xbox account from unlocked achievements. Your profile also provides a history of games associated with your achievements. A game can therefore remain part of your account’s totals even when you change how it is presented on your profile. Keep that distinction in mind before hiding anything from the history view.

- Identify the device. Decide whether you are checking on an Xbox console, the Xbox app for Windows, a mobile Xbox app, or a browser. Sign in to the Microsoft/Xbox account that owns the activity.
- Open Xbox Support and search for “Time played.” Choose the official support article with that title. Follow the section for your device and current app version. If the article presents more than one route, use the route that matches the interface you can see.
- Select the game or activity view described by the support article. Allow the page or app to finish loading before deciding that a title has no data. A large library can take longer to populate than a single-game view.
- Check the account context. If a game appears to have missing time, confirm that you are signed into the same Xbox profile used to play it. Switching Microsoft accounts or child/family profiles can make a valid history look incomplete.
- Record the figure with its context. Note the game, platform or app used, and the date you checked it. Xbox can update activity after a session, and different surfaces may not refresh simultaneously.
Do not treat a missing number as proof that no play occurred. The current support search result is dynamic, and exact behavior can depend on the title, account, device, and service state. If the official instructions do not resolve a discrepancy, use Xbox Support’s account and activity troubleshooting for the affected platform.
How to review achievements and Gamerscore
Start from your profile
Open your Xbox profile and choose the achievement-related surface available in your current interface. This is the fastest way to see recently unlocked objectives, your overall Gamerscore, and games with achievement activity. Profile layouts differ, so follow the label shown on your device rather than a guide written for another version.
Open the individual game’s achievement list
For a detailed checklist, open the game’s achievement list from the profile or from the game page. The list normally separates unlocked objectives from those still locked and shows each objective’s Gamerscore value. Use it to plan a completion run: read the requirement, note whether it depends on a particular mode or event, and return after the next session to confirm that the unlock registered.

Understand percentage and completion claims
A percentage on an achievement surface describes progress through that game’s listed achievements; it does not measure hours played. A title can show high playtime with a low percentage, or the reverse. Completion also depends on the edition and achievement set represented by the account, so compare like with like when reviewing older entries.

Xbox Insider features announced in 2026
Xbox Wire announced several activity features for Insider cohorts during 2026. These announcements describe preview access, not guaranteed availability for every Xbox account. If you do not see a feature, that may simply mean your account, region, device, or testing ring is not included.
| Announcement | Preview feature | What it adds | Availability caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| September 29, 2026 | Gaming tab on the profile | Achievements, progress toward the next Gamerscore milestone badge, completed games, and a per-game progress bar toward Mythic status. It can also focus on original achievements still needed. | Xbox Insiders only in the announcement; no general-release claim is established. |
| April 8, 2026 | Hide a game from achievement history | Changes whether a selected game is shown in the achievement history on your profile. | Announced for Insiders; the announcement does not make it a universal account feature. |
| February 18, 2026 | Postgame recaps in the Xbox PC app | May show captures, achievements unlocked, and relevant in-game events after a session. The app may run in the system tray to display a recap. | Announced for Windows Insiders; do not present it as standard PC-app behavior. |
Gaming profile tab and Mythic progress
The September 29 Xbox Wire announcement describes a new Gaming tab for Insider profiles. It is intended to put achievements, the next Gamerscore milestone badge, and completed games in one place. The same announcement describes a per-game achievement-list progress bar toward Mythic status and a way to focus on original achievements that are still needed. These are useful organizational views if your Insider account receives them, but they do not replace the ordinary profile and game achievement surfaces.
Postgame recaps on Windows
The February 18 announcement says Windows Insiders can try postgame recaps in the Xbox PC app. A recap may include screenshots or other captures, achievements unlocked during the session, and relevant in-game events. The app may remain in the system tray so a recap can appear after you stop playing. Since the announcement is for an Insider test, the absence of a recap in the normal PC app is not necessarily an error.

What hiding a game actually changes
The April 8 Xbox Wire announcement describes an Insider option to hide a game from the achievement history displayed on your profile. This is a presentation control, not a deletion of your account record.

- The game can be removed from the visible achievement-history presentation on your profile.
- Its Gamerscore still counts toward your total, according to the announcement.
- Activity in the game continues to be reported across Xbox.
- Hiding it therefore does not erase achievements, reset progress, or make the play activity private everywhere.
Before using the option, decide whether you want a cleaner profile view or actual reduction in activity visibility. Those are different goals. For the second goal, review Xbox’s online safety and privacy settings instead.
Choosing an official view or an independent tracker
Xbox’s built-in surfaces are the authoritative place to check account-linked achievements, Gamerscore, and the official time-played support workflow. An independent tracker can be more convenient when you want to sort a large collection, but it introduces a separate account and data relationship.
| Option | Best for | Integration | Organization | Availability | Privacy consideration |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox profile and game achievement list | Quick checks of unlocked and remaining achievements, Gamerscore, and game history | Direct Xbox account surface | Focused on individual games and profile views | General Xbox functionality, subject to device and app version | Controlled through Xbox profile, online safety, and privacy settings |
| Xbox Time played support workflow | Checking reported play duration | Official Xbox support guidance | Useful for individual activity checks; exact navigation varies | Use the current instructions for your platform | Visibility depends on account and privacy controls |
| Gaming profile tab and Mythic indicator | Seeing milestone and completion-oriented progress in one profile view | Xbox Insider profile feature | Groups achievements, completed games, and remaining original achievements | Insider preview in the September 29, 2026 announcement | Still subject to the profile’s visibility settings |
| Postgame recaps | Reviewing what happened immediately after a PC session | Xbox PC app | Captures, unlocked achievements, and events in a session recap | Windows Insider preview in the February 18, 2026 announcement | Recap content can include captures, so review who can see shared activity |
| TrueAchievements | Sorting and filtering a broad game collection and playtime views | Independent service; linking and data behavior are separate from Xbox | Designed for expanded collection organization | Feature availability can change; verify current terms | Check account-linking permissions and data handling before connecting |
Using a third-party tracker responsibly
TrueAchievements is an example of an independent service that describes game-collection and playtime views with sort and filter controls. That can help if Xbox’s native profile view is too narrow for a large backlog or if you want to group games by completion state. It remains separate from Xbox, so do not assume that every figure, title, edition, or achievement update will match immediately.
- Read the service’s current account-linking explanation and privacy policy.
- Confirm which Xbox data it requests and whether access can be revoked.
- Check how it handles games with multiple editions, discontinued achievement sets, or delayed updates.
- Use the service for organization, then verify consequential totals against your Xbox profile.
- Disconnect the account if you no longer want the service to access your activity.
The current account-linking process, data handling, and feature availability were not established by the cited Xbox material, so treat them as details to verify on the service before signing in.
Best Value
Control who can see your activity
Use Xbox’s official online safety and privacy settings when your concern is visibility rather than organization. The relevant controls can differ by account type, console, app, age setting, and region. Open the current Xbox Support page for online safety and privacy settings, then review the activity, profile, achievement, and game-history categories available to your account.
A practical privacy checklist
- Check the privacy setting for whether others can see your game and app history.
- Review achievement visibility separately; hiding a game in a profile history is not the same as changing account privacy.
- Inspect activity-feed and capture-sharing options if you use postgame recaps or share screenshots.
- If the account is part of a family group, check the organizer’s controls and age-based defaults.
- After changing a setting, view your profile from the perspective allowed by the setting, or ask a trusted account to confirm what is visible.
Privacy settings govern presentation to other people; they do not necessarily stop Xbox from recording activity for your own account totals and services.
Troubleshooting missing or incorrect activity
Playtime is absent
- Verify the signed-in Xbox profile and account used to launch the game.
- Check the official Time played support instructions for the exact device and app version.
- Allow time for a recent session to synchronize, then check again.
- Compare the game edition and platform. Separate editions can have separate achievement sets or activity records.
- If the official workflow still shows no data, contact Xbox Support with the title, device, account context, and approximate session date.
An achievement did not unlock
- Re-read the objective and verify that all stated conditions were met, including required modes or difficulty.
- Confirm that the game was played on the profile that should receive the achievement.
- Return to the achievement list after synchronization and restart the app or console if the list is stale.
- Check the game’s official support information for known unlock conditions before repeating a long task.
A hidden game still affects totals
That behavior is expected under the April 8 announcement: hiding changes profile history presentation, while Gamerscore and activity reporting continue. Use privacy settings if your goal is broader visibility control.
An Insider feature is missing
Confirm that the account is enrolled in the relevant Xbox or Windows Insider ring and that the device meets the preview’s requirements. Preview features can be staged, changed, or withdrawn. Do not infer general availability from another person’s screenshot.
A reliable tracking routine
For a simple personal record, check your Xbox profile after a meaningful session, open the individual game’s achievement list when you are working toward a specific objective, and use the official Time played workflow when you need duration. Record the date and platform in your own notes if you are comparing progress over months.
If you manage dozens of games, use Xbox’s native profile for authoritative totals and an independent organizer only for sorting or filtering. Reconcile discrepancies against Xbox before treating a third-party figure as final. If your priority is keeping activity private, start with Xbox’s online safety and privacy settings rather than hiding individual games.
