Use Google Search Console to see how your site performed in Google Search by country, query, and page. Use a rank tracker when you need scheduled checks of a chosen keyword list in specific countries, locations, languages, or devices. The two methods answer different questions: Search Console reports observed impressions, clicks, click-through rate, and average position; a rank tracker checks selected queries under settings you configure.
Choose the right way to check rankings
| Method | What it tells you | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Google Search Console | Clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position for searches where your site appeared in Google Search and the data is available in the report. | Understanding which queries and pages are already earning visibility in a country. |
| Rank tracker | Scheduled checks of a specific keyword list under selected search engine, location, language, and device settings. | Following chosen keywords in target markets, including markets where you have little or no observed traffic. |
Search Console does not measure every possible search or provide a controlled check of each keyword on a schedule. A rank tracker samples the terms you choose; it is not a report of all searches that brought visitors to your site.

Check country-level performance in Google Search Console
- Verify your site’s Search Console property.
- Open the Search results Performance report.
- Choose a date range. Enable clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position as needed.
- Open Countries and select the market you want to examine.
- Review the Queries and Pages tabs for the selected country and date range.
- Compare countries or date ranges to investigate changes in visibility, queries, or landing pages.
Google’s report includes dimensions such as query, page, country, device, search appearance, and date. Its average-position metric is an aggregate for the selected report scope—not a fixed position that every searcher in that country sees. Google explains that the chart’s average position reflects the topmost result from the whole site, while a table row can reflect the selected URL or grouping. See Google’s Performance report documentation and overview of Search performance.
A manual search may not match the report. Google’s guidance notes: “Even if a query appears in your list, you might not see your site in results if you run the same query in Google.” Treat Search Console as reported performance for a defined scope, not as a promise of the live result shown to every person. Google also explains how country filters can help analyze performance changes over time in its guide to filtering and limits in Search Console performance data.
Track selected keywords in target markets
If your question is “Where does this chosen keyword rank in each market?”, set up a rank-tracking campaign rather than relying on occasional manual searches.
- Choose the search engine and enter the exact keyword list you want monitored.
- Create a separate target for each country or location you need to compare. Where supported, targeting may be more specific than a country, such as a region, city, or postal code.
- Set the language and device, and choose local or national targeting if the service offers it.
- Keep the keyword spelling, search engine, location, language, and device settings consistent across comparisons.
- Let the tracker collect data on its schedule, then use its history and reporting features to assess trends rather than treating a single check as definitive.
Semrush Position Tracking documentation describes daily monitoring of selected keywords and setup choices for search engine, location, device, and language. Its location options include country, state or region, city, and ZIP or postal code where supported; consult Semrush’s ranking-tracking guide, configuration instructions, and its overview of Position Tracking for service-specific details.
Make country comparisons meaningful
Before comparing results, confirm that the scope is alike. A difference could reflect a changed location or device setting rather than a change in visibility.
- Search engine: Compare the same engine; Google Search Console covers Google Search.
- Location: A country-level Search Console filter and a rank tracker’s city-level target are not equivalent scopes.
- Language: Use consistent language settings when the tracker supports them.
- Device: Desktop and mobile checks can differ; hold the device constant for a trend comparison.
- Keywords: Search Console shows eligible reported queries; trackers show the chosen keyword set.
- Time: Match date ranges where possible and account for the tracker’s monitoring schedule.
- Metric: Do not treat Search Console average position as identical to a rank tracker’s position check.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a search-rank tracker. If your workflow also needs screenshots of pages in different markets, one GET request can return an image or PDF. Its clean-shot options accept consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools: take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a higher Search Console average position mean every user sees the site higher?
No. It is an aggregate report metric for the selected scope, not a universal live position.
Can Search Console show rankings for a country where my site has no clicks?
It can report impressions and other performance data where available; it does not promise data for every query or search.
