SaxaVord says it will livestream launches and give at least 24 hours’ notice of a planned launch. A published launch window, however, is a set of possible attempt times—not a confirmed appointment.
Where to get reliable SaxaVord launch updates
Start with SaxaVord
Check SaxaVord’s viewing page for announced windows, viewing arrangements and updates about access restrictions. The spaceport says more precise information will appear when it and its clients announce specific launch windows. Its news feed provides campaign updates, and readers can subscribe to SaxaVoice, its newsletter, for spaceport news.

Follow the launch operator as well
For a particular vehicle, the operator is an important source of mission status. Follow Rocket Factory Augsburg (RFA) for RFA One updates, and HyImpulse for SR75 updates, alongside SaxaVord’s announcements. An operator update may clarify campaign progress without naming an attempt time, so look for an explicit date and hours before treating a launch as scheduled.

Use trackers as a dated cross-check
Independent launch trackers can be convenient, but read the timestamp and distinguish a target window from a confirmed attempt. For example, the UK Space Launches page showed RFA One as “launch on hold” in a snapshot updated 29 July 2026, citing an issue found during pressurisation testing and a previously announced August window. That dated tracker status does not establish whether a hold remains in effect; verify with RFA’s latest announcement.
What a launch window and 24-hour notice mean
SaxaVord says a launch window will be publicised well in advance and may span several weeks, with attempts possible only on specified days and during specified hours. It also says, “At least 24 hours’ notice will be given of a planned launch.” That is notice of a planned attempt, not a guarantee that the rocket will launch at the first opportunity or that every possible attempt time will result in a flight. Check for the latest notice before travelling.

The CAA’s airspace-change appendix gives an illustrative planning sequence: informal advance notice around three months before launch, a NOTAM submission around 28 days before, a broad window around nine days before, and possible refinements around three days and one day before. These are illustrative milestones in a plan, not universal requirements or a guaranteed timetable for every flight. See the CAA airspace-change guidance.

Which notices matter for safety and restrictions?
For operational restrictions, use official aviation and maritime information—not a public countdown. The CAA describes how a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) can support activation of a danger area and refinement of launch windows. SaxaVord says relevant authorities notify airspace and maritime users. Check the relevant official notices close to launch and follow local instructions.

Licences reported in launch coverage do not all grant the same permission. The CAA says SaxaVord’s range-control licence covers safety-critical range services; a range licence by itself is not permission to launch. The CAA announced RFA’s vehicle launch licence in January 2025 and said it would continue monitoring safety conditions. UK government guidance reviewed in July 2026 describes launch licensing and airspace coordination requirements. For the regulatory context, see the CAA’s spaceport licence information, its RFA licence announcement and UK government licensing guidance.
Can you watch a SaxaVord launch live?
Yes. SaxaVord says, “Test flights and launches will be livestreamed, enabling people everywhere with a broadband connection to view them.” Check the official announcement for the specific stream link and timing; a general promise of livestreaming does not supply the details for an individual flight.

How to attend a launch in person
Public access is controlled. SaxaVord says a limited number of passes for an authorised viewing area will be offered first to people living on Unst; any remaining passes may be offered outside the island. Its March 2026 announcement says viewing areas and passes are subject to CAA licensing conditions. A public launch window is not permission to enter the site or approach the launch area.

SaxaVord says air traffic will be rerouted, vessels must leave a small maritime exclusion zone north of Unst, and a wider warning zone will be communicated to vessels by radio. Follow the spaceport’s access instructions and relevant authority notices; do not try to reach restricted areas.

Plan for the remoteness of Unst. SaxaVord says accommodation is limited and ferry places can be at a premium, and cautions visitors travelling from outside Shetland that a long test-flight window may end without a launch. Check transport, accommodation and pass availability before committing to travel; the official livestream may be the more practical option if you cannot accommodate schedule changes.
Quick Recap
A practical update-check routine
- Check SaxaVord’s viewing page and news feed for the announced window, access details and any viewing-pass information.
- Open the relevant operator’s latest update—RFA for RFA One or HyImpulse for SR75—and check whether it names a planned attempt time rather than only a campaign target.
- Look for a current, mission-specific notice before setting out. SaxaVord says it will provide at least 24 hours’ notice of a planned launch; continue checking for changes.
- For safety restrictions, consult official aviation and maritime notices and follow the instructions given by authorities and the spaceport. Do not rely on a countdown tracker for access or safety information.
- If watching remotely, use the official stream announcement to confirm the link and time for that flight.
