Airtable’s built-in Time tracker extension is the simplest way to record elapsed time on Airtable records: configure a duration or number field, start a timer on a record, then stop it to add the elapsed time. If you need timesheets, project administration, or exportable reports, Clockify offers a separate browser-extension workflow tied to Airtable items.
How Airtable’s built-in time tracker works
Airtable’s Time tracker is a record-oriented timer, not a general-purpose timesheet system. It starts against an existing record or a new one and writes elapsed time to a field you select. Airtable says the timer keeps running if you switch bases or leave Airtable. The feature is listed for paid plans and is documented for browser, Mac, and Windows; Airtable’s support article does not list mobile as a platform for this extension. Set up and use the Airtable timer
- In your base, add the Time tracker extension and select the table whose records you want to track.
- Choose the fields for the timer. The start-date field is optional and, if used, must be a date field. The elapsed-time field must be a number or duration field; choose whether the timer records minutes or hours.
- Optionally choose a collaborator/user field and a view. The user field associates tracking with a collaborator, while the view can restrict which records appear in the extension.
- Select an existing record, or create a new record, and start tracking.
- Stop the timer when the work is complete. Airtable adds the elapsed value to the configured field.
Check the target field before starting: a text field will not meet Airtable’s stated number-or-duration requirement. If the timer is running while you move to another base or leave Airtable, return to the extension and stop it when appropriate.
When an external tracker makes more sense
Use Airtable’s extension when the main goal is to place elapsed time directly in Airtable records. Consider an external service if your workflow needs centralized time analysis, team timesheets, project administration, or report exports beyond the record field.

Clockify’s Airtable workflow
Clockify describes a browser extension that puts a timer on Airtable items: install its extension, open an Airtable item, and start the timer there. Clockify says you can stop the timer from its browser, mobile, or desktop apps, then use its web app to edit past entries, analyze time, manage projects, invite people, review timesheets, and export reports. Automations, integrations, and sync are different from a timer
Airtable documents no-code integration services as well as automations, scripting, custom extensions, and API work for connecting systems or building workflows. These can support a tailored process, but they do not automatically provide the same start/stop experience as the Time tracker extension. Airtable also states that its sync integrations are one-way from the external application into Airtable, so sync alone should not be treated as a two-way timer integration. Its pricing page, accessed October 7, 2026, listed the Free plan at no cost, Team at $20 per user per month with annual billing, and Business at $45 per user per month with annual billing.
