Use a short watchlist and a few price alerts to find out when a coin reaches a level you care about, instead of repeatedly opening charts. CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap both document price-alert and tracking features; set alerts in the app, enable device notifications, and verify any trade decision on the exchange you plan to use.
Choose a tracker that covers the coins you follow
Start with the assets you actually monitor, then choose a tracker whose app supports them. CoinGecko’s instructions say you need an account to set price alerts. CoinMarketCap documents app alerts for individual coins. These are vendor-documented features, not independent comparisons of alert accuracy or delivery speed.

If you already trade through an exchange, its own app may also offer alerts. The available documentation here does not establish which exchanges support which coins, how their triggers are calculated, or whether those alerts are informational or connected to trading. Check those details for your venue and location.
Set a price alert in CoinGecko
CoinGecko supports custom price targets and preset percentage changes, with one-time or recurring alerts. Its support article says, “You will receive a price notification once the price hits the level that you have set.”

- Sign in to your CoinGecko account in the app.
- Search for the coin you want to follow and open its alert control.
- Enter a custom target price or choose a preset percentage.
- Select whether the alert should be one-time or recurring, then save it.
- Allow notifications in both CoinGecko’s settings and your device settings.
CoinGecko also describes automatic alerts after you select a searched coin, provided the feature and device notifications are enabled. Those automatic subscriptions expire after 45 days, according to CoinGecko Support’s October 27, 2025 article. That expiry applies to the automatic feature; it should not be assumed to apply to alerts you create manually.
Set an alert in CoinMarketCap
CoinMarketCap documents per-coin price alerts in its app. Its support information says notifications can appear in the CoinMarketCap inbox and on devices where you are signed in. The same documentation lists Android 5.0 or later and iOS 11.0 or later, as of its January 6, 2026 update. Because app requirements can change, check the current app-store listing for your device.

- Open the CoinMarketCap app and find the coin you want to monitor.
- Use that coin’s price-alert control and configure the level you want to track.
- Confirm the alert is enabled in the app, then allow app notifications in your phone’s system settings.
- Check the app inbox and device notification settings if an expected notification does not appear.
Keep tracking useful, not noisy
Make a small watchlist or portfolio
Track only coins you have a reason to follow. A compact list makes it easier to choose meaningful thresholds and reduces the temptation to reopen charts for every small move. CoinGecko documents portfolio tracking and alerts; CoinMarketCap says its watchlist can sync between mobile and laptop.
Use widgets for a glance, alerts for a trigger
CoinGecko documents mobile widgets that make prices easier to glance at. A widget can support a planned check-in, but the available documentation does not show that adding one creates or replaces a price alert. Configure alerts separately for the levels that matter to you.

Review alerts and remove stale ones
Periodically delete targets that no longer reflect what you are watching. This keeps notifications relevant and makes it easier to tell which alerts are still intentional.

A tracker alert tells you that its feature reports a selected threshold has been reached; it is not evidence that a trade has been executed. The available vendor documentation does not establish that an aggregator’s alert price will match an exchange’s price, that it reflects an executable price on your venue, or that a notification will arrive within a guaranteed time.

Before acting, confirm the coin and currency pair you meant to track, then verify the current price and available market on the exchange where you would place a trade. Treat the alert as a prompt to check, not as a trading instruction or a guarantee of timing.
