If Fortnite offers a bounty in your current Battle Royale match, accept it and use the highlighted map area to search for the target. In the classic bounty system, that area marked the target’s last known location—not a live, exact position. Because current Chapter 7 Season 4 sources do not confirm whether classic bounty boards are available, check the in-game map and nearby interactables first.
How to track a bounty target
- Check whether bounties are available. Open the map and look for a bounty option at a nearby character or Bounty Board. Availability can change between seasons, and current official information does not confirm that classic boards are active in Chapter 7 Season 4. Epic’s Chapter 7 Season 4 announcement identifies the season as Override, but does not settle bounty-board availability.
- Accept the bounty if it appears. In the classic system, players could start a bounty by interacting with a character or static Bounty Board. Epic described that mechanic in its Season 5 Bars and Bounties announcement, published December 2, 2020.
- Open the map and head for the highlighted area. The map clue indicated where the target was last known to be. Treat it as a search area, not a precise marker showing the target’s current position.
- Search the area and watch for the target. The historical description does not specify how often the clue updates or guarantee a continuously refreshed location, so keep looking around the area rather than expecting an exact tracking signal.
- Follow the match’s completion state. Use the in-game notification or objective state to tell when the bounty has resolved, and check the active season’s displayed reward rather than assuming older rewards still apply.
What the bounty clues mean
The map area is for the hunter
In the classic system, the map’s highlighted zone gave the hunter a hint about the target’s last known location. It narrowed the search without revealing an exact live position.

The Tracking meter is for the target
If you are the player being hunted, Epic’s historical description says a Tracking meter indicates how hot the hunter is on your trail. Read it as a broad warning about the pursuit, not as a marker revealing the hunter’s exact location. Use the warning to stay alert, protect teammates, and consider repositioning; the meter does not guarantee a particular outcome.
Are Fortnite bounties available this season?
That is not established by the available official Chapter 7 Season 4 information. The steps above describe Fortnite’s classic bounty mechanic, documented by Epic for Chapter 2, Season 5. Check the current match for a bounty interaction or map option; if none appears, the classic process may not be available in that mode or season. Do not assume the older system or its rewards carry over unchanged.

What happened to the classic bounty reward?
In its December 2, 2020 Season 5 announcement, Epic said the party received Bars if the target was eliminated or the hunted player evaded capture. That reward description is season-specific; verify the active season’s in-game reward rather than treating it as a current guarantee.
