Check audio before joining a meeting
The pre-join screen gives you another chance to choose an audio source. Select the audio option and, if you choose Computer audio, open Audio settings to inspect or change the microphone and speaker. Depending on the meeting and organizational policies, the available choices may include computer audio, phone audio, room audio, or joining without audio. Details are in Microsoft’s guide to joining a Teams meeting.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If you use Teams on the web
Microsoft says the separate Make a test call feature is unavailable in Teams for the web. You can still use the pre-join audio settings to choose available devices, check your browser’s microphone permission, and confirm the correct input and output in system sound settings. The test-call feature is currently available in English, according to Microsoft Support.
Choose another audio source if your computer audio is unavailable
If the meeting offers it, phone audio can provide the microphone and speaker connection while you continue using the computer for other meeting functions. Room audio may also be available when joining from a meeting room. These options depend on the meeting’s configuration and organizational policies; check the pre-join audio choices before joining. A new headset is not required for the built-in test call, though Microsoft lists headsets and speakerphones among examples of Teams-certified devices.
