What’s actually slowing this PC down?

A “No Signal” message cannot tell you whether the HDMI cable, display input, source device, or setup is at fault. Isolate the cause by changing one thing at a time: verify power and input selection, reseat the cable, try another display port, substitute a compatible known-working cable, then cross-test the source and display.
Start with power, input selection, and cable seating
- Wake and power on the source. Check that the connected device—such as a PC, console, or cable box—is on and not asleep. If it has its own input selector, confirm that too. Samsung lists source power and selection among the first checks for a no-signal condition (Samsung Support).
- Select the matching display input. Use the TV or monitor’s input/source menu and choose the HDMI port where the cable is physically connected.
- Reseat both cable ends. Disconnect and firmly reconnect HDMI at the source and display. If you need to power-cycle the equipment, Samsung UK advises disconnecting power from the TV and external device for at least 10 seconds, then reconnecting; its suggested sequence connects HDMI at the source first and the display second. Menus and procedures can vary by model (Samsung UK).
Do not force a plug or insert tools into a port. If a connector or port looks visibly damaged, stop testing that connection and consult the device manufacturer or a repair provider.

Change the display port, then the cable
Try another HDMI input
Keep the same source and cable, move the cable to another HDMI input on the TV or monitor, and select that new input in the display menu. If the setup works there but repeatedly fails on the original input, the original input or its settings become more suspect. That result does not, by itself, prove internal port damage; inspect for visible damage or debris and repeat the test if practical. Samsung recommends trying another port and checking its condition (Samsung Gulf; Samsung UK).
Substitute a compatible, known-working cable
Return to the original source and display setup, then replace only the cable. Use a cable known to work and compatible with both devices and the video mode you are trying to use. If the same setup works with that cable, the original cable is strongly implicated. Samsung’s U.S. no-signal guidance states, “If the issue is resolved, the original cable is defective” (Samsung Support).
#1 Best Overall
- 【Multi-Function Tester】Test HDMI cables (HDMI 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/2.0) and network cables (RJ45) with ease
- 【Quick & Accurate Testing】 Scan and test up to 19 wires to detect short circuit, open circuit, or wrong order - Save time and money
- 【Two Test Modes】 Choose between fast scan mode and full display mode for more comprehensive testing
- 【Superior Compatibility】Supports HDMI (Type A), and RJ45 connectors - Perfect for all your devices
- 【Auto Shut-Down Function】 Save battery life with automatic shut-down after 10 minutes of inactivity - Convenient and energy-efficient
Compatibility matters: match the cable to the devices’ required resolution and refresh rate. For 4K at 120 Hz, Samsung says to use an HDMI 2.1 cable and recommends confirming certification; its UK guidance also recommends a certified cable that meets the connected devices’ specifications (Samsung Support; Samsung UK). A replacement cable will not fix a damaged port or faulty source device.
Cross-test the source and display
When the port and cable swaps do not settle the question, test the devices against alternatives. Change one component at a time and note which combination works.

- PRECISION TESTING: Evaluates HDMI cables for shorts, open circuits, or incorrect wire pairings for each wire pair
- VERSATILE USE: Perfect for use on 1.2V, 1.3V, 1.4V, 2.0V HDMI or Mini HDMI cables. Works on any cable length (tested up to 500 m)
- REMOTE TESTING: Remote can be detached from the main unit, allowing you to quickly and easily test HDMI cables that are installed or very long
- SCAN MODE: Allows you to see each individual connection being tested
- FULL DISPLAY MODE: Shows all of the tested connections at once
- Try the source on another display. If it works there, the source can produce an output in that setup; continue investigating the original display, its input, or its configuration.
- Connect another source to the same display input. If the other source works, investigate the original source device or its output settings.
- Compare more than one input or source. If multiple sources fail on one input but work on another, the original input or display path is more suspect. If multiple known-good cables, sources, and inputs all fail, the cause could still be the display, source configuration, or more than one issue—not necessarily a single broken port.
Samsung recommends testing another external device, and Microsoft recommends trying an external monitor with a different system (Samsung Support; Microsoft Support).

| What changes the result? | Likely next suspect | What the test tells you |
|---|---|---|
| The same setup works after replacing the cable | Original cable | Strong evidence it was faulty or unsuitable for the signal. Samsung treats a resolved no-signal issue after cable replacement as evidence the original cable is defective (Samsung Support). |
| The same source and cable work on another input | Original input or its settings | The failure follows the original input in this setup; it does not confirm internal hardware damage (Samsung Gulf; Samsung UK). |
| A different source works on the same display and input | Original source or its output settings | The display path can work with another source; troubleshoot the original device (Samsung Support; Microsoft Support). |
| The original source works with a different display | Original display, input, or display configuration | The source can output in the alternate setup; continue isolating the display path (Microsoft Support). |
| Several known-good cables, sources, and inputs still fail | Display, source configuration, or multiple issues | A no-signal message alone does not identify the failed component. Seek model-specific diagnosis if basic checks do not resolve it (Samsung Support; Samsung Gulf). |
For a Windows PC, check output and adapter settings
After the basic cable and input checks, press Windows+P and choose the intended projection mode. Temporarily remove docks, dongles, and adapters from the signal path; if the PC has another output port, try it. These steps can reveal a PC output or intermediary-device issue, but they do not prove an HDMI port is damaged.

If the display connection worked before and stopped after a graphics-driver update, Microsoft lists rolling back or reinstalling the display driver as later troubleshooting. These software checks apply to Windows PCs and should follow basic hardware isolation (Microsoft Support).
Use an on-TV cable test only if your model supports it
Some Samsung TVs include an HDMI cable test, but availability and menus depend on model and software; some models may require an update, while older models may not offer the test. Samsung says its cited test is designed for cables shorter than 2 m and may not give good results with longer cords. Check the manual for your exact TV and treat the self-test as one clue rather than a universal cable diagnosis (Samsung Support).

When to seek service
Contact the manufacturer or an appropriate repair provider when results repeatedly isolate the fault to one port or device—for example, a known-working source and compatible cable work on another input but not the suspect one. Samsung advises seeking support if its port troubleshooting does not resolve the issue (Samsung Gulf). Check the service and warranty options for your model and country; support procedures can differ by region and TV generation.
