Test durability by repeatedly loading the sensor under conditions that represent its intended use, while logging both the applied load and the sensor’s output. Compare calibration and physical condition before, during, and after cycling. A cycle count by itself does not show whether a sensor remains accurate: the meaningful result is whether drift, sensitivity, hysteresis, recovery, and damage stay within limits set for the application.
Define the test before cycling
Start by translating the sensor’s intended use into a written test plan. Set the operating and peak pressure or strain, loading direction, waveform, rate or frequency, mounting and contact conditions, target service life, and relevant temperature or moisture exposure. Define acceptable changes in output before testing begins.

Set application-specific limits for unloaded baseline, sensitivity or signal amplitude, hysteresis, repeatability, response and recovery, and continued function. The studies summarized in the literature use different protocols and endpoints; the reviewed sources do not establish one cycle count or pass threshold for every stretchable pressure sensor. The 2026 reliability review describes inconsistent reliability endpoints and performance assessment standards across the literature (2026 reliability review).

Establish a baseline
Before endurance cycling, measure output against known pressure or strain across the intended operating range. Record the unloaded output, loading and unloading curves, calibration slope or sensitivity, response and recovery behavior, and repeatability over a stated number of cycles. Use an independent load or displacement reference where possible, and retain raw data as well as processed results.

- False-Trigger Prevention: H5130 Pressure Sensor features a smart false-trigger prevention mechanism. When pressure/no pressure lasts for more than 0-10 minutes (the time can be adjusted by yourself), the connected device will be triggered to perform the action. This effectively prevents false triggering caused by turning over in bed or sitting up on a stool.
Keep the test setup consistent: calibration after cycling should use the same fixture, mounting, loading range, and measurement method as the baseline. Document any conditioning cycles and state whether they count toward the endurance total. Sensitivity, dynamic range, response and recovery, hysteresis, drift, and stability are among the performance measures discussed in the pressure-sensor literature (pressure sensor metrics review).
Apply controlled cyclic loading
Use a controlled actuator or materials-testing system and a fixture that reproduces the sensor’s intended boundary conditions. Measure or otherwise verify the load or strain actually delivered to the sensor while recording its output. A command sent to an actuator is not a substitute for confirming the mechanical input at the specimen.

Report the waveform, amplitude and range, frequency or loading rate, cycle count, preload, dwell and rest periods, sampling rate, and whether data were logged continuously or at checkpoints. Check alignment and attachment: bending, shear, friction, or slip can change the load transferred to the sensing element and look like sensor degradation.

Kight and colleagues cycled a prototype at 30% strain (1.5 cm extension) using sinusoidal displacement at 20 Hz for 1,000,000 cycles. They reported about 109 Pa of baseline drift between cycle 100 and cycle 1,000,000 and described no apparent physical degradation in that prototype (Kight et al., Sensors, 2023). These conditions and results are a study-specific example, not a standard, a universal minimum, or a pass threshold for other sensors.

- [Multi Scenario Adaptation]: Designed specifically for industrial measurement and control, it is also suitable for DIY smart seats, bedding, musical instruments and other equipment. It is compatible with multiple application scenarios, with a typical DC 3 volt test voltage, and can adapt to different circuit requirements, providing reliable pressure detection solutions for various devices.
- [Usage Tip]: A protective cover is required to prevent sharp objects from coming into contact, and direct contact with liquids is not recommended; Operating beyond the range will not damage the sensor, and it can be used normally after resetting; It is recommended to use soft rubber or springs as triggers when applying sports mechanisms to ensure stability.
Track changes at checkpoints and after the run
Choose inspection checkpoints in advance and compare each one with the baseline. At minimum, report absolute and percentage changes in unloaded baseline and sensitivity or signal amplitude, along with hysteresis, repeatability, recovery, and functional failures. Repeat the baseline calibration procedure after cycling so the comparison is meaningful.
Inspect for cracks, permanent deformation, delamination, electrode or interconnect damage, package separation, loss of adhesion, and changes in the load path. Record interruptions and the cycle at which a failure occurs. A sensor may continue producing an output even as its calibration or sensitivity becomes unsuitable, so visual inspection cannot replace performance measurements.

Control environmental factors that matter
Temperature can change sensor output and may be mistaken for mechanical drift. Measure and record it during the run, or control it when the application requires that distinction. Add humidity, sweat, water, cleaning, or storage aging only when those exposures reflect intended use; specify their duration and sequence.

In the Kight prototype study, temperature-sensitive output was discussed as a plausible contributor to drift, and an onboard temperature sensor was used for compensation. The authors also tested the silicone transmission element after 18 hours submerged in water and found little change in that component’s mechanical effect. Neither observation establishes water resistance or temperature behavior for other materials, packages, or sensor designs (Kight et al., Sensors, 2023).

Interpret durability by performance, not cycle count
Drift is a longer-term change in output at a constant or absent input; hysteresis is a difference in output at the same input depending on whether the sensor is being loaded or unloaded. Separate these effects from temperature shifts, mounting changes, and readout instability before attributing them to fatigue.
Sensor types can fail in different ways. Dabling and colleagues compared five interface pressure sensors under static drift and cyclic loading. In their tests, force-sensitive resistors showed hysteresis, drift, and sensitivity loss under cyclic loading; the capacitive sensor had substantial drift; the optical sensor showed some hysteresis and temperature-related drift; and the fluid-pressure sensor performed well in those tests, though its response was less flat and it was not commercially available at the time (Dabling et al., PubMed abstract). The abstract does not report a numerical cycle count or drift threshold, so those figures cannot be inferred from it.
Compare the measured changes with the tolerances required by the intended application. Do not rank designs by cycle count alone: loading range, waveform, frequency, fixture, packaging, environment, sample count, and acceptance criteria all affect what a result means. Kight and colleagues cited about 40 million heartbeats per year as context for their cardiac-monitoring application; that figure is application context, not a general durability target (Kight et al., Sensors, 2023).
