Publish your game as a playable web page, then open that exact URL on desktop and mobile browsers and test the controls you expect players to use. A shareable link makes a game reachable; it does not guarantee that the game works on every device.
1. Make sure the build can run in a browser
Start with the game’s exported web build, not just its project files or source-code repository. The published page should load as a web page that a player can open directly. For itch.io’s HTML5 game uploads, the documentation describes an index.html or other top-level HTML file as the entry point in its app context; other engines may package their exports differently. Check the requirements for the tool that produced your build.

2. Publish a playable page
Two common kinds of destination are a static web host and a game-publishing platform. MDN names GitHub Pages as one possible place to host web game files, while itch.io documents browser-playable HTML5 uploads. Either route can give players a URL to open without asking them to build the project themselves.

3. Test the deployed game on desktop
Test the published URL rather than relying only on a local preview. MDN describes desktop-first development followed by mobile debugging as a practical workflow—not a guarantee of compatibility.
- Open the page and confirm the initial screen appears without a loading error.
- Try the main controls, then check that restart, pause, or exit works as intended.
- If the game has audio or fullscreen controls, confirm that they respond as expected.
- Reload the page and check that the game can start again.
4. Test the same URL on a phone or tablet
When possible, open the deployed page on a real mobile device. A desktop browser resized to a narrow window can reveal layout problems, but it does not replace checking touch input and mobile browser behavior.

- Check that the game and its controls fit the screen and can be reached without awkward scrolling.
- Try every touch control. Make sure important actions do not require hover or a keyboard.
- Check whether portrait or landscape orientation is usable, and whether any fullscreen control behaves as expected.
- Confirm that the page remains usable if fullscreen is unavailable or the player leaves fullscreen.
If your intended audience uses different browsers or devices, test more than one where practical. Describe only tests you actually completed—for example, “tested in desktop Chrome and mobile Safari on an iPhone.” A browser game’s use of web technology alone does not establish that it works on all devices.
5. Share the direct playable link
Send people the URL of the published game page, not merely a source-code repository unless they are expected to build the project. Ask a recipient to open the link in a browser and report any problem with loading, controls, or display.

If you add an in-game Share button, the Web Share API can pass a link to a share target selected by the player. MDN marks the API as limited availability and says it requires a secure context, so check support at runtime rather than assuming it is present. Keep the game URL visible and offer a copy-link fallback. See MDN’s Web Share API documentation and the Navigator.share() reference.
6. Set mobile labels only after testing
On itch.io, mark an HTML5 game “Mobile Friendly” only after checking it in a mobile browser. Its HTML5 documentation says mobile visitors receive click-to-launch fullscreen behavior and that a warning appears when a game has not been marked mobile friendly. The label sets an expectation for players; it is not a substitute for testing.
