How to Test and Debug an AI-Generated Game Before Sharing It

An AI-generated game still needs a complete player-path test. Learn how to find gameplay and script defects, check relevant devices and multiplayer behavior, and review it before sharing.

Before sharing an AI-generated game, play it from the opening screen or spawn point through a complete round, level, or ending—and verify that its controls, objectives, rewards, and restart path work as intended. Then reproduce and investigate any defects, check the devices and multiplayer behavior your game relies on, and ask someone else to try it without coaching. The exact preview and debugging controls depend on the tool you used; Roblox Studio provides a useful, clearly platform-specific example.

Start with the game you intended to make

Turn the prompt and design into a short player-path checklist. For each important action, write down what the player should do, what should happen, and how they will know it worked. This gives you a practical test plan without assuming the AI has implemented the request correctly.

  • Can a new player start or spawn in the right place?
  • Are the goal, controls, and next action understandable?
  • Can the player finish a complete round or level?
  • Do scoring, rewards, or progression update at the right time?
  • Can the player restart, continue, or exit when appropriate?

Use the test or preview environment in the tool that created your game. In Roblox Studio, the official tutorial recommends playtesting an obstacle course to check that players can reach its finish (Test and save).

Play the full game before debugging individual details

Run the normal route from beginning to end using the controls your intended players will use. Pay attention to transitions as well as the main action: a level may look correct but still fail when a player collects an item, reaches a checkpoint, completes a round, or tries again.

Wit's End — A Smart, Mind-Bending Trivia & Brain Teaser Game that Will Challenge Your Wits & Knowledge — Adult & Family Night Fun
  • Think You're Smart? Prove It! — Wit's End is a challenging trivia and brain-teasing board game where players battle wits in four mind-bending categories of smart trivia. Four uniquely designed categories engage your powers of deduction as well as your knowledge:
  • Teaser — Can you crack the riddle? — These fun and tricky rhyming riddles will have you scratching your head as you try to deduce the answer.
  • Odd-1-Out — Which one doesn’t belong? — You’ll be given four terms, but only three share something in common. Your job is to spot the odd-one-out.
  • Sequence — What’s the order? — Organize movies by release date, cities by distance, historical events by year, animals by size, and more in this logic-based challenge.
  • Wild Card — Antything Goes! — This unpredictable category throws surprises like Brain Trivia, Word Whiz, True or False, Memory Lane, and more! You never know what’s coming your way!
  • Look for blocked progress, unreachable objectives, and misleading instructions.
  • Check whether rewards or points are missing, duplicated, or awarded at the wrong time.
  • Try restarting and repeating important transitions.
  • Notice soft locks, freezes, crashes, or places where the player has no clear next action.

When you find a problem, record the action sequence, where it occurred, what you expected, and what actually happened. Reproduce it before changing anything. Then change one likely cause and repeat the same steps. This makes it easier to tell whether the fix addressed the defect or merely changed something nearby.

Choose a test that matches the problem

Different checks reveal different kinds of defects. A solo playthrough can expose a broken objective, but it cannot tell you whether two players see the same score. A useful sequence is to begin with the player path, then add the specific execution, device, network, or multiplayer checks your game needs.

Check What it can reveal What you need When to use it
Full gameplay path Broken goals, controls, progression, restart, and completion One person playing with intended controls After generation and after meaningful gameplay changes
Runtime debugging Where script behavior diverges from expectations Debugger, output, or logs in the creation tool When a defect is reproducible but its cause is unclear
Multiplayer simulation Synchronization and differences between server and clients Simulated clients or collaborating testers For games with shared or networked play
Device and input checks Layout or controls that fail on a target screen or input method A simulator, emulator, or relevant device For devices and controls the game is meant to support
Network-condition checks Problems sensitive to latency, jitter, or packet loss A network simulator, if the tool provides one For games where network quality affects play
Uncoached playtest Confusing goals, instructions, or controls Another person who has not been coached through the game Before sharing beyond the creator

These are complementary checks, not a ranking: a game does not need every device or network test if those conditions do not apply to its intended players.

Studio mode What it does Useful for
Test (F5) Starts a simulation with an avatar at a spawn point or default position Playing the experience as a player
Test Here Starts an avatar near the current camera Checking a particular location without moving there from the spawn
Run (F8) Simulates without an avatar Checking scene or script behavior that does not require a player character
Server & Clients Starts a server and simulated client sessions Checking multiplayer behavior and what different clients see

Stop ends a simulation and resets instances to their pre-test state. Solo Test or Test Here includes separate client and server simulations; the Output window labels messages by origin, which can help narrow down which side produced an issue. Roblox says one or two simulated clients are usually sufficient for typical checks, and Studio supports up to eight.

Trace a reproducible script problem

When a Roblox Studio defect points to a script, open the suspected script, set a breakpoint on a likely line, and run a playtest. The script pauses at the breakpoint so you can inspect variable values and the call stack, then step into, over, or out of code to follow execution.

  1. Reproduce the defect and identify the action that leads to it.
  2. Set a breakpoint near the code responsible for that action.
  3. Run the same test and inspect the paused line, variables, and call stack.
  4. Check Output for errors or messages, including whether they came from the client or server.
  5. Make one targeted change, rerun the reproducing steps, and then replay the full player path.

During testing or play, Roblox Studio’s Developer Console opens with F9 or /console. It can show client and server output, memory use, and network performance. Local log files can preserve printed messages and errors. Roblox documents these debugging options in its debugging guide.

Check the screens, controls, and network your game needs

For Roblox experiences, the Device Simulator previews screen dimensions, pixel density, keyboard, and touch input. Controller Emulator covers gamepads and other supported controllers. Use the relevant option to check a game intended for those layouts or controls; a keyboard-focused game does not need a controller check just because the tool provides one.

Network Simulator can introduce latency, jitter, and packet loss. It is useful when network conditions could affect timing or shared state, such as a multiplayer interaction. These tools are described in Roblox’s Studio testing modes documentation.

Ask someone else to play without help

Give a tester a short goal—such as “finish one round”—and watch without explaining what to click or where to go. Note where they pause, choose an unexpected action, or misunderstand an instruction. Ask what they expected at that moment. The places they struggle can reveal unclear controls or goals that are easy for the creator to overlook.

In Roblox Studio, Team Test supports collaborative testing. Roblox’s Build guidance also describes private friend playtests, but its official pages differ on whether playtesting is available: the Creator Hub Build page says it is coming soon and not yet available, while Roblox Support describes testing and private friend links with availability varying by country. Check the current experience in your region rather than assuming the feature or its steps are universal (Create games with Build; Creating with Build).

Review generated content and sharing access

Working gameplay is only one part of a pre-share check. Roblox says creators are responsible for outputs delivered through third-party AI. Review generated text, images, characters, and interactions against the platform’s Community Standards, and check any maturity or disclosure requirements that apply to player-facing AI interactions. Roblox’s Games with Generative AI guidance explains those content responsibilities.

After a meaningful revision, repeat the steps that exposed the original defect and replay the central player path to catch regressions. If possible, gather feedback through a private or restricted test before opening the experience more broadly. Roblox Support says a private experience can be tested through the normal Roblox website play flow without other players joining (Testing in Studio).
