Find the model number on your AirPods Pro
- On an iPhone or iPad: Open Settings, tap Bluetooth or the name of your AirPods, find the AirPods in the list, then tap More Info. The model number appears in the device details. If they do not appear, pair them first.
- On the earbuds: Look for the small model number printed on the underside of each earbud. Apple’s model numbers begin with “A.”
- On an older connected Apple device: Open Settings > General > About, then select the AirPods name.

Match the earbud A-number to its generation

These model-number groups and introduction years are from Apple’s identification guide. The 2022 and 2023 entries are both AirPods Pro 2; the distinction is the charging-case package/version, not a separate earbud generation.
Quick answers for common A-numbers
- A3047, A3048, or A3049: AirPods Pro 2 USB-C-era earbuds.
- A2931, A2699, or A2698: AirPods Pro 2 Lightning-era earbuds.
- A3063, A3064, or A3065: AirPods Pro 3.
- A2084 or A2083: AirPods Pro 1.
Check the charging case separately
The case has its own model number. Use the earbud number to identify the generation, then check the case number and connector if you need to identify the case version or order a replacement.

Apple lists these case identifiers and details in its identification guide. For the two AirPods Pro 1 cases that share A2190, Apple’s European page distinguishes the variants using different final-four serial-number suffix pairs.
If the earbuds and case seem to disagree
A replacement case may not be the one originally supplied with the earbuds. Identify the earbuds and case independently, and check Apple’s listed compatibility before ordering a replacement. If the left and right earbuds show different A-numbers, record both: Apple’s identification guidance does not provide a procedure for diagnosing mixed replacement pairs.

What the serial number can—and cannot—tell you
The AirPods and charging case share a serial number, printed on the underside of the case lid. AirPods Pro 1 and 2 earbuds also have individual serial numbers printed on them, but Apple says to use the primary serial number on the case lid for service. See Apple’s guidance on finding AirPods serial numbers. That guidance does not establish serial-number lookup as proof that a product is genuine.
