Check AirPods Pro charge from your iPhone or iPad, Mac, or the case’s status light. To support battery lifespan, put the earbuds in their case between uses and use the charging features available for your specific Pro generation.

Check AirPods Pro battery on iPhone or iPad

  1. Connect your AirPods Pro. Wear them, or open the charging case near your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Open Settings and tap your AirPods name near the top of the screen. The battery percentage appears there when the AirPods are connected. Apple also describes opening the case near the device as a way to check charge. See Apple’s AirPods charging guide and AirPods user guide.

Check AirPods Pro battery on a Mac

Open the Bluetooth status menu in the menu bar to see the battery percentage. If Bluetooth is not visible, go to System Settings > Menu Bar and enable Bluetooth under Menu Bar Controls. Apple documents this in its AirPods user guide.

Read the charging case status light

With the AirPods in the case and its lid open, the light indicates the earbuds’ charge. With the earbuds out, it indicates the case’s charge. Green means fully charged; amber means less than one full charge remains. If there is no light, Apple says the AirPods may need charging before use. The light is a broad status cue, not a percentage display. See Apple’s charging instructions.

Make your AirPods Pro charge last longer

Use the case between listening sessions

Put the AirPods in their case when you are not using them. Apple says the case holds multiple full charges, so it can recharge the earbuds while you are away from a power source. Charge the case by cable, or use a Qi-certified charging mat or MagSafe charger only if your particular case supports wireless charging. Apple’s charging guide covers case charging options.

Use the charging optimization for your generation

Optimized Battery Charging is designed to reduce battery wear by reducing the time supported AirPods spend fully charged. It learns charging routines and delays completing a charge until shortly before expected use. Apple says it requires an iPhone or iPad and is on by default during setup or after updating to iOS or iPadOS 15 or later. The feature does not guarantee a particular lifespan increase. Details are in Apple’s AirPods charging guide.

  • AirPods Pro 1 and Pro 2: Apple lists Optimized Battery Charging in AirPods Battery settings. Availability and labels can depend on the model and software.
  • AirPods Pro 3: Apple describes an Optimized Charge Limit that learns from usage. You can temporarily disable it to charge fully or turn it off in settings. These controls are not the same as the Pro 1 and Pro 2 instructions.

Because settings differ by generation and software, check the AirPods name and current options on your connected iPhone or iPad rather than assuming another Pro model’s menu applies. Apple’s user guide describes the model-specific charging controls.
