Memory prices have not clearly peaked in the consumer market. TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 outlook forecasts further increases in 4Q26 contract prices for both conventional DRAM and NAND Flash, but those wholesale forecasts are not the same as the price of a RAM kit or SSD on a retailer’s shelf. To judge what shoppers are paying, compare like-for-like products in your region over time and treat contract forecasts as context—not as a retail price index.
Are RAM and SSD prices still going up?
At the upstream contract level, TrendForce forecasts conventional DRAM prices to rise 10–15% quarter over quarter in 4Q26, and NAND Flash prices to rise 15–20% over the same period. These are forecasts for contract pricing, not guaranteed increases in consumer listings. The DRAM forecast also points to a slower pace of increase; that is a cooling rate of growth, not evidence by itself that prices have peaked.

The outlook differs by product segment:
- PC DRAM: procurement is supported by expectations of tight supply in 2027, while higher component costs are weighing on notebook sales.
- Client SSDs: PC makers can draw on finished-goods and channel inventory, and are reducing SSD capacities in mainstream systems to manage costs. Those factors restrain procurement and limit price increases.
- Enterprise SSDs: this is a separate, stronger-demand market. TrendForce projects enterprise SSD bit demand to grow by more than 80% year over year in 2026 and expects enterprise SSD price growth to accelerate in 4Q26. That outlook should not be treated as a forecast for consumer SSDs.

What do contract prices, company averages and retail prices tell you?
These figures measure different parts of the market and should not be compared as if they describe the same price.

How can I tell whether memory prices have peaked?
A peak is easier to assess from a consistent series of observed retail prices than from a single forecast or one unusually cheap listing. Use this process:

- Choose a fixed product specification. For RAM, keep the generation and form factor consistent—such as DDR5 desktop DIMMs—and compare similar capacity and kit configurations. For SSDs, match interface, form factor and capacity, such as NVMe M.2 drives at the same capacity. Check motherboard, CPU or device compatibility before treating products as substitutes.
- Compare actual listings in your region across dates. Record the retailer, model, date and price. A listing from another market, currency or tax regime may not reflect what local shoppers pay. TrendForce’s street-price examples are individual observations with update dates, not a global retail average.
- Keep product price separate from discounts and specification changes. Note whether a price is a temporary promotion, whether the model changed, and whether the capacity or kit size differs. A lower-priced smaller SSD, for example, does not establish that the same-capacity SSD became cheaper.
- Track both price level and rate of change. If the same product keeps rising but rises more slowly, momentum has cooled; prices have not necessarily turned downward. A peak requires evidence that comparable prices have stopped rising and then declined, rather than merely increasing at a slower rate.
- Keep upstream indicators in a separate column. Record contract-market forecasts alongside retail observations, but do not substitute them for the shelf price. Contract movements may not pass through immediately or evenly to every listing.
What the available indicators cannot establish
The cited figures do not establish that a broad consumer RAM retail index has peaked: there is no comprehensive retail RAM price series among these sources. Nor does enterprise SSD demand establish the trajectory of client SSD prices. For a purchase decision, the most useful evidence is a dated history of comparable local listings for the exact capacity and form factor you can use.
