If you host the world or have administrator rights, press Alt+F10, open Entity List, choose Characters, select your friend, and use the teleport action shown for that character. A normal player usually cannot use this route without the host or server administrator. If spectator mode is enabled for you, you can instead move the spectator camera to your friend, press Ctrl+Space to move your engineer there, and press F6 to regain player control.

Which teleport method should you use?
Space Engineers multiplayer has two practical, built-in ways to reach a friend quickly. The first is the Admin Screen, which directly targets the friend’s character. The second uses spectator mode: you fly the camera to the friend and then teleport your engineer to that camera position.

The Admin Screen is usually the most precise option because it selects the friend’s listed character directly. Spectator mode is more visual: you decide where the camera goes, inspect the area, and then move to that point. That flexibility is useful when the friend is near a base or vehicle, but it also makes choosing a safe landing position your responsibility.
Dedicated-server hosting is not a teleport requirement. A persistent server can provide administration tools, but simply renting or running one does not automatically give every player teleport access.

Teleport directly with the Admin Screen
1. Confirm that you have the right permissions
You must be the world host or have been promoted to administrator. On a dedicated server, the owner can promote players through Keen’s Dedicated Server Manager or the VRage Remote Client. The exact promotion process depends on how that server is managed.
Being able to join the server, use a faction, build, or operate a ship does not imply administrator status. Promotion is a separate server permission. If another person owns the world, ask that person to perform the teleport or explicitly promote your account.

2. Open the Admin Screen
- Join the multiplayer world and wait until you have control of your engineer.
- Press Alt+F10 to open the Admin Screen.
If nothing opens, verify that you are using the keyboard controls for the current PC build and that your account has administrative access. The shortcut is an administrative control, not a general multiplayer command. It is intended for a running world, not the title or loading screen.
3. Open the character list
- Choose Entity List in the Admin Screen.
- Select Characters so the list shows player engineers rather than every object in the world.
Choosing the wrong category is a common reason a player appears to be missing. The character list is the relevant place to look for an engineer; a ship, station, block, or other entity will not provide the same character-teleport workflow.
4. Select your friend
Find your friend’s character in the list and select it. Use the teleport action available for that entity. The wiki documents the entity-selection and teleport capabilities, but the exact button label or position can vary by game version and interface layout, so use the action displayed beside the selected character rather than relying on a fixed button name.
Confirm the name carefully before activating the action, especially when several players are online or when character names are similar. If your friend is currently disconnected or has not spawned an engineer, there may be no active character to select.

Your engineer should appear at the selected character’s location. Ask your friend whether they are inside a tight interior, parked inside a hangar, or near moving machinery before teleporting. A destination with no room for your character can cause an immediate collision or leave you in an unsafe position.
After arriving, pause long enough to check your surroundings. Look for airtight doors, conveyor openings, thrusters, rotating mechanisms, and nearby moving grids. If your friend is in space, verify that your suit has oxygen and power before moving away from the arrival point.
How to get administrator access
If you can play in the world but cannot open the Admin Screen or see a teleport action, the limitation is normally permission-related rather than a missing command.

- Hosted or locally created world: Ask the host to perform the teleport from their Admin Screen.
- Dedicated server: Ask the server owner to promote your account using the server-management tool they use, such as Dedicated Server Manager or VRage Remote Client.
- Shared server: Contact an existing administrator; another player’s ability to build or use a faction does not itself grant teleport rights.
Promotion should be done by the person who controls the server configuration. If the owner is not online, a regular player cannot manufacture the permission from normal gameplay settings. The owner may prefer to teleport you personally rather than grant continuing administrative rights.

Do not assume that a chat command such as /tp is part of the unmodified game. That syntax is associated with community administration scripts or mods. The built-in procedure is the Admin Screen and Entity List route described above. A server using a mod may have different commands, permissions, or risks, so follow that server’s own rules rather than mixing mod instructions with the vanilla interface.
Use spectator mode to reach a friend
Spectator mode can work when you have permission to use it but do not want to search through the Entity List. It is also useful when you need to see the destination before moving your engineer.
1. Enter free spectator mode
Press F8 to switch to free spectator mode, if that control is enabled for your role and current world. Spectator access is itself a permission or world-setting issue; being unable to enter it does not mean the keyboard shortcut is broken.
2. Fly the camera to your friend
Move the spectator camera until you are at your friend’s position. This is a camera movement, not yet a teleport of your engineer, so you can inspect the area for walls, terrain, ships, or other obstructions first.
For a safer arrival, put the camera in open space beside the friend instead of inside a cockpit, narrow corridor, sealed room, or overlapping grid. Ask the friend to stop moving while you line up the destination. A moving target can make a previously clear position unsafe by the time you transfer your engineer.
3. Move your engineer to the camera
Press Ctrl+Space. This moves the player to the spectator camera’s position.
4. Return to normal control
Press F6 to leave spectator mode and resume control of your engineer. If you remain in spectator view, you are controlling the camera rather than walking, flying, or operating your character normally.
The seated-grid warning
Check whether your engineer is seated before using Ctrl+Space. If you are occupying a seat in a ship, rover, bed, chair, or cryo pod, the grid containing that seat can move with you. The game warns that the grid may be destroyed if there is not enough room at the destination. Leave the seat first when you intend to move only your character.

This warning matters even when the destination itself looks clear. A large grid may extend beyond the camera’s immediate view, and transferring it into terrain, a station, another ship, or a confined hangar can destroy it. If you want to bring the vehicle intentionally, first make sure the entire grid has adequate clearance.
What to do when teleport is unavailable
The Admin Screen does not open
- Confirm that you pressed Alt+F10 while the world was running, not on a title or loading screen.
- Ask the host whether your account has administrator rights.
- On a dedicated server, have the owner verify that your player was promoted through the server’s administration tool.
- Check the current keyboard bindings if your build or platform uses a customized layout.
If the host can open the screen but you cannot, that strongly indicates a permission difference. Do not spend time searching chat for a universal command when the server has not granted the required role.
Your friend’s name is missing
- Open Entity List and choose Characters; other entity categories will not show player engineers in the same way.
- Check that your friend is currently connected and spawned into the world.
- Ask the host to perform the teleport if the server hides or refreshes the list differently in its current build.
- Have the friend move or respawn only if the server’s normal rules permit it; do not assume a disconnected character can be targeted.
There is no teleport action
The action is an administrative capability. A regular player cannot unlock it by changing a normal gameplay setting. Request a teleport from the host or ask for the appropriate promotion. Mods may add their own commands, but those are separate from the built-in procedure and can differ between servers.
The spectator move causes damage or moves a vehicle
Return to a safe location, leave any seat, and repeat the spectator sequence. Before pressing Ctrl+Space, place the camera in open space rather than inside a sealed room or overlapping a grid. If the destination is too cramped, ask your friend to move into open terrain or an empty hangar first.

Pause the friend’s ship or rover and agree on a stationary meeting point. Spectator mode transfers you to the camera’s position, not to a permanent coordinate lock. The Admin Screen targets the character selected at the time of the action, but the surrounding grid can still be moving, so communication remains important.
Keyboard and console considerations
The documented shortcuts—Alt+F10, F8, Ctrl+Space, and F6—are keyboard mappings. Keen’s administration guidance covers Steam and Xbox dedicated servers, but the detailed shortcut references are written for keyboard controls. On Xbox or another controller setup, open the in-game Help or Key Bindings screen and check the current bindings for Admin Screen, spectator mode, teleport-to-spectator, and return-to-player. Labels and mappings can change between platform builds.
Do not assume that a PC key combination has a one-to-one controller equivalent. If the control is not listed, ask the server owner whether the feature is disabled for that world or role. The access requirement still applies regardless of whether the input comes from a keyboard or controller.
Teleporting safely in different situations
Meeting at a base
Ask the friend to stand outside the base or in a large, empty room. This reduces the chance of spawning inside a wall, conveyor, airtight door, or another character. The Admin Screen method is preferable when you want the destination to be exactly the friend’s current character location.
For a crowded base, have the friend move to a marked landing area first. Keep doors open and machinery inactive while the transfer happens, then restore normal operation once both engineers are clear.

Meeting in space
Have the friend stop moving before you teleport. A moving ship can leave you behind, place you inside a structure, or expose you to vacuum. If you are using spectator mode, position the camera beside the ship rather than inside a cockpit or narrow passage.
After arrival, check suit oxygen, hydrogen, power, and the nearest handhold or access point. Teleporting does not replace ordinary survival preparation; it only changes your position.

Leave your own seat before using spectator mode if you do not want your vehicle to follow you. Also ask the friend to clear an area around the destination; the seated-grid warning applies to the grid you occupy, and a cramped destination can destroy it.
If both players are bringing vehicles, meet in open terrain or clear space rather than inside a hangar. A camera position that fits an engineer may not provide clearance for a full grid.

Players often ask whether they can “put a friend on GPS.” The documented controls establish the Admin Screen teleport and spectator methods, but they do not establish a universal built-in action that automatically creates a GPS marker for another player’s live position. If you need a waypoint rather than an immediate move, ask the friend to share their coordinates or GPS entry through the game’s normal communication features, or have the host help.
A shared GPS coordinate is useful when you want to travel normally, bring cargo, or avoid granting administrative rights. It may become outdated if the friend or their ship moves. Do not confuse a shared GPS coordinate with teleport permission: one identifies a location, while the other requires administrative or spectator access.
Do you need a dedicated server?
No. You can use the Admin Screen in a hosted multiplayer world when the host grants the relevant access, and spectator mode can be available in worlds that permit it. A dedicated server is useful for a persistent world, scheduled administration, and an always-on multiplayer session, but it is optional for teleporting and does not automatically grant the ability to teleport.
Keen’s dedicated-server information identifies GTX Gaming as the official dedicated-server host for PC and Nitrado as the official host for Xbox. If you choose hosted infrastructure, compare platform compatibility, administration controls, persistence, and setup requirements. Teleport access still depends on the permissions configured by that server’s owner.
Hosting prices and plans can change, so check the provider’s current listing before committing. You do not need a paid server, physical accessory, special manual, or separate hardware merely to use the built-in teleport controls in an existing multiplayer world.
Admin Screen versus spectator mode: a practical comparison

Choose the Admin Screen when you have authority and want the shortest, most direct route. Choose spectator mode when it is permitted and you need to inspect the destination visually. - Tell your friend that you are moving so they can stop a vehicle and clear space.
