To capture a website with GrabzIt’s Python API, create a GrabzItClient using your application key and secret, submit the URL with URLToImage(), then retrieve the image with SaveTo() or the asynchronous Save() callback. Submitting the capture alone does not save a screenshot.
Install the GrabzIt Python library and prepare credentials
GrabzIt’s Python API documentation says its library can be installed with pip or downloaded manually. It does not establish a current package version or Python compatibility matrix here, so check GrabzIt’s current installation instructions before pinning a version or assuming support for a particular Python release.
Create a GrabzIt account and obtain the application key and secret for your integration. Treat the secret as a credential: keep it out of source control and avoid logging it.
Capture a website and save the image
This synchronous example submits a page capture and waits for GrabzIt to write the result to a local file:

from GrabzIt import GrabzItClient
client = GrabzItClient.GrabzItClient("APPLICATION KEY", "APPLICATION SECRET")
client.URLToImage("https://example.com")
client.SaveTo("result.jpg")
Replace the credential strings and target URL. The file extension in this example is JPG, the documented default image format. Use a supported output format and a matching extension when you configure another format. The GrabzIt documentation describes PNG as an alternative when JPG quality is not sufficient.
The key workflow is: initialize the client, call URLToImage(url), and then retrieve the result. Without a save or retrieval step, the call does not leave you with an image file.
Choose synchronous saving or a callback
| Method | How it behaves | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
SaveTo(path) |
Waits synchronously for the capture and writes it to a file. | Local scripts, desktop tools, localhost development, or other cases where your application cannot receive a callback. |
Save(callback_url) |
Completes asynchronously; GrabzIt calls your handler when processing is complete. | A web service with a reachable callback handler, where you do not want the request to wait or repeatedly poll. |
GetResult(id) and GetStatus(id) |
The technical reference documents these for retrieving capture bytes and checking status. | Applications that need to manage result retrieval or status explicitly. |
GrabzIt’s Python API documentation says to “Always use the SaveTo method on localhost”: a callback to a service running only on your machine cannot ordinarily be reached by GrabzIt. Do not assume a fixed completion time; the documentation cited here does not establish one.
Set image format, quality, and capture dimensions
Image format and quality
The Python image options documentation lists JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP variants, and TIFF; JPG is the default, and PNG is suggested when JPG quality is insufficient. The technical reference also lists SVG, while the options page presents a different format list. Verify format support and any constraints for your intended use before relying on SVG or a specific variant.

The technical reference documents a quality option for JPG and WEBP output. Choose quality with your file-size and visual-fidelity needs in mind; the documentation does not establish a universal setting that is best for every page.
Full-length capture
For the documented full-length image settings, set browserHeight, width, and height to -1. This requests full-page height; it does not create an infinitely wide browser capture. GrabzIt’s options page explicitly warns, “Note there is no full length browser width!”
Mobile rendering
GrabzIt documents mobile website captures through the Python screenshot API, but warns that not every site has a special mobile version and that mobile capture may not work in all circumstances. The available documentation here does not establish a particular device model or viewport size, so treat the result as site-dependent rather than as an exact device simulation.
Use capture options for page content and interaction

Only one of click, hover, or scroll can be specified at once, according to the technical reference.requestAsselects a standard, mobile, or search-engine user-agent mode.
These controls are options, not guarantees that every dynamic page will render identically. For example, waiting for a visible element can help with content that appears after initial page load, but it cannot ensure that every script, animation, or third-party resource behaves as it would in a normal browser.
Render supplied HTML instead of a website URL
Use URLToImage(url) for a website address. GrabzIt’s Python API also documents HTMLToImage for supplied HTML content and FileToImage for a local HTML file. Choose the input method that matches what you have: a live page URL, an HTML string, or a file on disk. Each still needs a save or retrieval step to obtain the resulting image.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
No image file appears
Check that the code calls SaveTo() after URLToImage(), that the destination directory exists, and that the running process can write to that path. If using the callback approach, ensure the configured handler is reachable by GrabzIt and is prepared to receive the completion notification.
The callback never reaches a local application
A localhost-only handler is not a public endpoint that GrabzIt can call. Use SaveTo() for localhost or deploy a reachable callback handler for asynchronous completion.

The screenshot misses content that loads later
Try a suitable delay or waitForElement option, based on the page’s behavior. A delay is time-based; waiting for an element is tied to visible page content. Neither guarantees that all dynamic content or external resources will finish or render successfully.
The capture is not full width
The documented full-length settings cover height, not unlimited width. Set browserHeight, width, and height to -1 for the documented full-length setup, but do not expect a full-length browser width option.
The mobile result looks like the desktop page
The site may not provide a distinct mobile version, or the mobile capture may not work for that site. GrabzIt’s documentation does not promise a specific device model or viewport through this guidance.
The requested image format is unavailable or unexpected
Check the format option and output extension, and verify the format against the current documentation for the API. The image options page and technical reference do not present identical format lists, so do not assume every listed format has the same support conditions.
