Choose a way to supply the URLs
For every page on a site: start with its sitemap
Look for a sitemap URL, often linked from the site’s robots.txt file or footer. A sitemap can provide the page URLs to capture, but not every site publishes one. Urlbox’s guide describes using a sitemap extractor before rendering the resulting list. Review the URLs before capture: a sitemap may include pages you do not need, and a missing sitemap means you will need another source for the list.

For a known list: use a text file or CSV
If you already know the pages, store one URL per line or put URLs and desired output names in a CSV. This keeps URL discovery separate from rendering and makes it easier to resume a job or identify a failed page.
Automate one Urlbox render per URL
Urlbox’s documented approach is to submit a separate render for each URL. Its JavaScript guide uses the synchronous JSON endpoint, https://api.urlbox.com/v1/render/sync, with secret-key authentication in the Authorization header. The example below follows that pattern. It writes each response body to a PNG file; confirm the response is successful before saving it, and adapt result handling if your account or endpoint returns a different response format.

}This is a documentation-based pattern, not a tested script. Keep the secret key on a server or in a protected environment variable; never put it in browser-side code. For production use, add per-URL error handling so one failed render does not stop the rest, and record the source URL beside each output filename.
Use bounded concurrency for larger lists
The sequential loop above is intentionally simple, but it waits for each capture to finish before starting the next. Urlbox’s guide also describes concurrent requests with Promise.all. For a large list, avoid launching every URL at once: process small batches, wait between batches if needed, and reduce concurrency if you see rate limiting or if the target site is under load. The sources do not establish a universal safe concurrency setting or fixed throughput; those depend on your account and the sites being captured.

Use the CLI for a CSV workflow
Urlbox’s CLI guide describes a CSV with a URL column and an output-name column, then running urlbox screenshot for each row to save PNGs in an output folder. This suits local, file-oriented workflows where you want filenames tied to the input data. For very long CSV jobs, Urlbox recommends asynchronous rendering rather than waiting sequentially for every capture. The API quickstart describes asynchronous POST rendering with polling or a webhook, which lets a job manager track work without holding one request open for every page. Set full-page capture and choose output carefully
Set full_page: true when each image should include content below the initial viewport. Urlbox documents two capture modes:
- Stitch: scrolls the page, triggers lazy-loaded content, and joins screenshot sections. Urlbox describes this mode as optimized for accuracy and reliability.
- Native: uses browser-native full-page capture and is faster, but may not work well on every site.
The tradeoff is page-dependent; use stitch when completeness matters and check representative pages before processing a large list. Urlbox documents maximum dimensions of 65,535 × 65,535 pixels for JPEG and 16,383 × 16,383 pixels for WebP. Its documentation says PNG does not have those format-specific dimension limits, making PNG a practical choice for unusually tall full-page captures. See Urlbox full-page screenshot documentation.

Urlbox’s guide says sites with 1000+ pages may need requests spaced out to avoid rate limiting; treat that as operational guidance, not a guaranteed threshold or throughput measurement. For organization, the guide suggests cloud storage such as S3. Choose a workflow based on setup effort, control over render settings, error handling, output naming, and retention needs. The available documentation does not establish an independent comparison of speed, cost, or reliability among these options.
Keep the output after capture
Urlbox’s quickstart says hosted render URLs expire after 30 days. Download the image files or configure saving to a cloud bucket if you need them longer. Troubleshoot common problems
- A page is missing from the results: Check that it appears in the input list and that the URL is valid and publicly reachable from the rendering service. If building a site-wide list, check for a sitemap reference in
robots.txtor the footer; some sites have no sitemap. - The request is rejected: Verify that the secret key is present and that the request sends it in the
Authorization: Bearer …header. Keep the key out of client-side code. - Some pages fail in a large run: Process fewer URLs concurrently, introduce pauses between batches, and log failures by source URL so you can retry only unsuccessful captures. No account-specific concurrency quota is established in the cited documentation.
- Lower-page content is absent: Use
full_page: trueand the stitch mode for pages that rely on lazy loading; compare with native mode only if it works correctly on the page. - A very tall image exceeds format dimensions: Use PNG rather than JPEG or WebP when their documented dimension limits are a constraint.
- You can no longer open an old render link: Urlbox states that hosted render URLs expire after 30 days. Save the image locally or persist it to cloud storage as part of the capture workflow.
