For a one-off full-page capture, start with the browser you already use: Chrome offers Capture a full size screenshot in DevTools Device Mode, while Firefox has a full-page screenshot button and a Web Console command. Capture the intended desktop or mobile state, then inspect the entire saved image before putting it in a client report.
Capture a full page in Chrome
- Open the page and wait until it reaches the state you need to document. If you need a mobile capture, open DevTools Device Mode and choose a device type or viewport first.
- Open Chrome DevTools and turn on Device Mode if it is not already active.
- Open the Device Mode screenshot menu and select Capture a full size screenshot. Chrome documents that this captures page content beyond the visible viewport. Chrome DevTools documentation.
- Open the resulting image and review it from top to bottom, including dynamically loaded and embedded sections.
For a repeatable automated capture, Chrome also exposes screenshot capture through the Chrome DevTools Protocol, but the menu is simpler for a one-off client-report image. Chrome DevTools Protocol documentation.

Capture a full page in Firefox
Use the Developer Tools button
- Open Developer Tools settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Click the screenshot icon in the Developer Tools toolbar. Firefox saves the capture to Downloads by default.
- Review the saved image for missing or repeated content.

Choose the capture approach for the report
Built-in browser capture is a sensible starting point for occasional work. Choose based on setup effort, viewport control, whether you need an element-only capture, export needs, and how much annotation or review the report requires.
- Chrome or Firefox built-in capture: useful for an occasional full-page screenshot without installing an extension.
- Browser extension: may suit recurring workflows or provide annotation and export conveniences. Before installing one, check its current permissions, supported browser, and feature set. Make the screenshot useful as client evidence
Record the right state
Capture the page state the report is discussing. If the report compares responsive behavior, capture desktop and mobile separately and label each image so the viewports cannot be confused.

Check the entire image
Look for missing sections, duplicated sticky headers, overlays, delayed images, cut-off text, or scaling that makes details unreadable. Long pages, delayed content, embedded sections, and inner scrolling can complicate a full-page result. If relevant content has not loaded, wait for it and capture again; verify visually rather than assuming the tool handled it correctly.
Preserve the original and document the capture
Keep an untouched copy of the original capture. Make annotations or redactions on a duplicate. A clear filename might be client-site-homepage-desktop-2026-10-03.png. When useful, add the page URL, capture date and time with timezone, viewport description, and relevant login or consent state to a caption or report note. These details help explain what the image records, but do not by themselves prove when or how the page appeared.
Review privacy before sharing
Check whether the screenshot exposes personal, account, or confidential information that the recipient does not need, and redact that information on a copy before sharing. India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology publishes the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023; the Act’s applicability to a particular screenshot or reporting arrangement depends on the circumstances, and this guide is not a legal determination.

Common capture problems
- Only the visible portion appears: use the full-size/full-page option, not a regular viewport screenshot. In Chrome, choose Capture a full size screenshot; in Firefox, enable the entire-page button or run
:screenshot --fullpage. - Images or sections are missing: content may load after scrolling or after a delay. Wait for the relevant sections to appear, capture again, and inspect the result.
- A sticky header appears more than once: inspect the whole image. A long-page capture may not represent every dynamic layout cleanly; try a fresh capture after the page settles and compare.
- Text is too small to read: capture the required viewport and consider splitting desktop and mobile views into separate clearly labelled images rather than relying on one scaled-down page image.
- A Firefox image overwrites an earlier one: choose a distinct filename when using the console helper.
