Use an n8n Form Trigger to collect a website URL, send that value from an HTTP Request node to a screenshot API, then pass the returned image to a storage or delivery step. The Form Trigger supplies submitted fields to the workflow; Browserless documents both an n8n HTTP Request integration and a POST-based screenshot API. The configuration below is a practical assembly of those documented pieces, not a prebuilt or tested workflow.
Build the workflow: form, screenshot, destination
- Collect a URL. Add an n8n Form Trigger and create a URL field. The node generates the form page and starts the workflow on submission. The submitted field becomes input data for the next node.
- Call the screenshot API. Add an HTTP Request node after the trigger. Configure it to make a POST request to Browserless’s screenshot endpoint, passing the submitted URL and any screenshot options in the request body. Browserless’s n8n integration guide demonstrates the HTTP Request approach; its Screenshot API documentation defines the endpoint, authentication, request options, and image response.
- Send the output somewhere. Connect a storage, cloud-storage, notification, or other downstream node that can accept the image representation you selected. The screenshot API returns image data; it does not by itself choose a destination or store the result for your workflow.
Exact n8n expression syntax and field mapping depend on the item shape produced by your form and the controls in your current editor. Run the Form Trigger in test mode first, inspect the incoming item, and map the URL field shown there into the HTTP Request body rather than assuming a field name.

Configure authentication and the HTTP Request
Browserless screenshot requests require an API token. Store it in n8n Credentials and reference that credential from the HTTP Request node; Browserless recommends credential storage in its n8n guide. Do not paste a live token into a public form, shared workflow export, or example that will be copied by others.
Set the request method to POST, use the screenshot API endpoint specified by Browserless, and provide the submitted URL plus the desired screenshot settings in the body. Follow Browserless’s current API documentation for the exact authentication field or header and supported request parameters. Configure the HTTP Request node’s response handling so the image is available as binary data or as base64, as appropriate for the next node. Browserless’s n8n guide illustrates both image-buffer and base64 handling.

When mapping the request, check these items in the editor:
- The URL value comes from the Form Trigger’s submitted item, not a hard-coded test URL.
- The request body is sent as the format expected by the screenshot endpoint.
- The token is sourced from a credential, not an ordinary form field.
- The response mode and downstream node agree on binary image data versus base64 text.
Choose capture size, format, and response behavior
Viewport or full page
Choose a viewport capture when the next step needs the visible screen at a particular browser size. Choose full-page capture when the complete document is needed. Browserless supports screenshot options including full-page capture; specify the desired setting in the API request and verify the result on a long page.
PNG, JPEG, or WebP
Browserless documents PNG, JPEG, and WebP image responses. Choose based on the consuming service: PNG is suitable when lossless output or crisp interface details matter, while JPEG or WebP may fit workflows that accept those formats and prioritize smaller image files. Ensure the filename or content type used downstream matches the selected response format.

Binary or base64
Use binary response data when the next storage or delivery node accepts a file/binary property. Use base64 when a later step expects encoded text or embeds the image in a payload. The representation is a workflow decision: convert or map it explicitly rather than passing base64 text to a node expecting a file, or binary data to a text field.
Should the form submitter wait for the screenshot?
Decide whether submission should end with a confirmation or wait for a result. n8n’s Form Trigger documentation describes configurable form submission ending behavior. If a user must receive a screenshot or link immediately, configure the form’s response behavior intentionally and ensure the workflow has a path that can return that result. If the capture is for later processing, use a completion message that does not imply the image is already available.
Test the form, then publish it
- In the Form Trigger, use the Test URL while building and submit a sample URL. The editor can show incoming form data for debugging.
- Execute the trigger and inspect the submitted field and item structure. Use that observed field in the HTTP Request mapping.
- Run the request and inspect whether the API returned image data in the response representation you configured. Then verify that the destination node receives and saves or delivers the image as intended.
- For live submissions, switch to the Form Trigger’s Production URL, save, and publish the workflow. Production submissions do not appear in the editor UI in the same way as test submissions.
The test and production URLs serve different modes; sharing a Test URL is not a substitute for publishing the production workflow. See the n8n Form Trigger documentation for the current behavior.

Protect an exposed URL form
A public form that accepts arbitrary URLs can be used to request captures of destinations you did not intend to expose. Validate submissions before sending them to the screenshot service. For example, restrict accepted domains or require an approved list if the workflow is for internal use. Treat this as your workflow’s security design choice; the cited product documentation does not provide an automatic URL allowlist guarantee.

- Reject empty, malformed, or non-HTTP(S) values before the screenshot request.
- Limit the destinations the form is allowed to submit, especially if the workflow has access to internal systems or privileged credentials.
- Keep the Browserless token in n8n Credentials and avoid returning it in form responses or logs shared with submitters.
Troubleshooting
The screenshot request gets an empty or missing URL
Inspect the Form Trigger output for the submitted field’s actual name and nesting. Update the HTTP Request expression to use that item path, then test with a fresh submission. A copied expression that assumes a different form shape will not map the value correctly.
The API rejects the request
Check that the node uses POST, that the request body follows the current Screenshot API format, and that the token is present through the configured credential. Compare the method, authentication, URL field, and options against the Browserless Screenshot API documentation.

The destination receives text instead of an image, or cannot save the result
Check the HTTP Request response mode. If the request returns base64, make sure the next step decodes or accepts that encoding; if it returns binary data, map the binary property expected by the destination node. Also check that the output filename or content type corresponds to PNG, JPEG, or WebP as configured.
Test submissions work, but production submissions do not
Confirm that the form uses the Production URL and that the workflow has been saved and published. Production submissions are not presented in the editor like test submissions, so verify completion through the workflow’s production execution or the configured destination.

Set the API’s full-page option if the workflow needs the entire document. A viewport screenshot and a full-page screenshot are different capture choices; test a long page and confirm its dimensions before relying on it downstream.
