For a report, use Microsoft Edge’s print preview to save a webpage as a multi-page PDF; use Windows Snipping Tool when you need an image of exactly what is visible on screen. If the report needs both the page’s appearance and its longer text, save both formats and check each before sharing.
Choose a screenshot, a PDF, or both
| Report need | Best fit | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| Show the visible portion of a page, window, or screen | Screenshot | A selected on-screen area or view at capture time. |
| Include longer page content in a printable sequence | PDF from Edge | Content laid out across pages, with print settings such as margins and scaling. |
| Show a visual state and let readers follow longer text | Both | The screenshot records the visible view; the PDF provides paginated content. |
Neither format guarantees that every interactive or dynamic feature of a live webpage will be preserved. A screenshot is limited to the selected visible area, while a PDF may paginate or render differently from the site.

Save a webpage as a PDF in Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Edge and wait for the content you need to appear.
- Press Ctrl+P, or open Settings and more > Print. Review the preview.
- Set orientation, paper size, margins, and scale so text and tables remain readable. Check the preview after each adjustment.
- If page colors or other background elements are missing, enable Background graphics and review the preview again.
- If the print dialog offers it, select Microsoft Print to PDF, then select Print. In the save dialog, choose a folder and filename and save the PDF. Printer names and dialog labels may vary by browser and Windows setup.
- Open the saved PDF and check that its pages, text, and important graphics are legible before putting it in the report.
Microsoft describes Microsoft Print to PDF as included with Windows 10 and Windows 11. The exact print controls and their arrangement can vary. See Microsoft’s Edge printing guidance and Microsoft’s Print to PDF guidance.
Print only a selected section
When you need just one part of a page, select the relevant text or images, right-click the selection, and choose Print. On eligible websites, Edge’s Immersive Reader may provide a cleaner text-focused print view; it is not available on every site. Check the preview to confirm that the intended content is included.

Capture the visible webpage with Snipping Tool
- Arrange Edge so the relevant page area is visible. Scroll to the section or state you want to document.
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S.
- Choose rectangular, free-form, window, or full-screen snip. For a rectangular or free-form capture, drag over the area to include.
- Select the Snipping Tool notification to open the capture. Crop or annotate if needed, then use Save or Save as. You can also copy the capture to the clipboard.
- Give the file a descriptive name. If the report needs an unannotated record, retain the original capture separately from any marked-up copy.
Snipping Tool also supports delayed captures and the Ctrl+S save and Ctrl+C copy shortcuts. Microsoft describes the tool as a way to “take a snapshot to copy words or images from all or part of your PC screen.” See Microsoft’s Snipping Tool guidance for capture modes and save controls.
Make the files report-ready
- Use a filename that identifies the page or subject and capture date.
- Keep the webpage URL and date captured with the report or in its notes so readers can identify the source. A standard PNG screenshot does not automatically establish its source URL.
- Inspect both files before sharing. Check for browser tabs, account details, notifications, or other sensitive information.
- For the PDF, verify page breaks, legibility, and important graphics. For the screenshot, verify that the entire intended area is visible.
Troubleshooting
The PDF preview or output looks different from the webpage
Try enabling Background graphics if colors or page backgrounds are absent. Adjust orientation, scale, and margins, then inspect the preview again. Printing changes a webpage into page layout, so compare the saved PDF rather than assuming it will match the live page pixel for pixel.

Ads or navigation clutter the printout
Try Edge’s Immersive Reader for a text-focused print view if the site supports it. Alternatively, select only the section you need, right-click, and choose Print.

Microsoft recommends retrying and restarting Edge. If the problem continues, try printing another site or document. That can help distinguish a problem with the original webpage from a broader Edge or system printing issue. See Microsoft’s Edge printing troubleshooting guidance.

The screenshot is missing part of the page
Snipping Tool captures the screen area or window you select, not the entire scrollable webpage as one continuous image. Scroll to the needed section and capture it, or use Edge’s print-to-PDF workflow for longer page content.
