Turn it on at Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch, then use its on-screen menu. For a quicker screenshot-only shortcut, set up Back Tap; Siri is another option.
Use AssistiveTouch for screenshots and locking
AssistiveTouch puts a floating menu button on your screen. From that menu, you can reach both the Screenshot and Lock Screen actions. Apple’s instructions are in its AssistiveTouch guide.

Turn on AssistiveTouch
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch.
- Turn on AssistiveTouch. An on-screen button will appear. You can also ask Siri to turn AssistiveTouch on.
Take a screenshot
- Tap the floating AssistiveTouch button.
- Choose Device > More > Screenshot.
The screenshot is saved to your Photos library by default. You can use the preview to edit, share, save, or delete it. See Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide.

- Tap the AssistiveTouch button.
- Choose Device > Lock Screen.
AssistiveTouch can also be configured for use with compatible adaptive accessories. An accessory is not required for the on-screen menu method.

Set Back Tap as a screenshot shortcut
Back Tap assigns an action to a double or triple tap on the back of the iPhone. It is useful if you want a screenshot shortcut without opening the AssistiveTouch menu, but Apple documents it as a screenshot option—not a way to lock the screen.
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.
- Choose Double Tap or Triple Tap.
- Select Screenshot.
Apple’s Back Tap instructions specify iPhone 8 or later with iOS 14 or later. Back Tap is configured separately from AssistiveTouch.

Use Siri for a screenshot
Apple also lists Siri as an alternative way to take a screenshot. This option is voice-driven; for locking the screen without the side button, use AssistiveTouch’s Device > Lock Screen action. Apple’s screenshot guide covers the available screenshot methods.

If you normally use the button combination
For reference, Apple says Face ID iPhones take a screenshot with the side button and Volume Up, while iPhones with a Home button use the side button and Home. AssistiveTouch, Back Tap, and Siri provide alternatives when you want to avoid that combination. See Apple’s button instructions.
