Lumio Aura 5 is a pair of powered stereo bookshelf speakers designed to make a two-speaker setup easier to use with a TV, computer, phone or compatible turntable. Built-in amplification means no separate receiver is required, but the two cabinets need space and placement. The case for Aura 5 is convenience combined with stereo layout—not proven superiority over soundbars: the available coverage contains no controlled comparison or independent review.
What Lumio is betting on
Soundbars put the TV upgrade into one cabinet. Aura 5 takes the opposite physical approach: two separate speakers, one for each stereo channel. Lumio’s proposition is that a simple powered pair can provide stereo separation without requiring buyers to assemble a receiver-and-speaker system.

That is a design choice, not a demonstrated sound-quality verdict. In launch coverage, Lumio CEO Raghu Reddy described the goal as bringing back fidelity that convenience products gave up. That is the company’s position; it is not an independent finding. (The Times of India, launch report.)

Does Aura 5 need a separate amplifier?
No. Lumio describes Aura 5 as a powered stereo system with amplification built in. The manufacturer lists a 4.5-inch aluminium-diaphragm woofer and a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter in each high-density engineered-wood cabinet. Its listed package includes two speakers, a speaker cable, power cord, HDMI cable, remote and two AAA batteries. These are manufacturer specifications and included-item claims. See Lumio’s Aura 5 product page.
#1 Best Overall
- 2 x AUX INPUT - Convenient connection to any device that has a 3.5mm headphone output or dual RCA output. Connect to two devices via AUX at the same time, no plugging and switching needed.
- STUDIO SOUND QUALITY - Natural sound reproduction from 13mm silk dome tweeter and 4 inch full range unit
- REMOTE CONTROL - Adjust volume at your figure tips. Bass and treble control located on the side of main speaker.
- CLASSIC WOOD FINISH - High quality MDF wood build finished with wood effect vinyl serves as a great compliment to any home decor.
- SIDE PANEL CONTROLS - Use the side panel knobs to adjust the EQ to your liking. The controls are located on the active/powered speaker.
The practical trade-off is that the system still has two cabinets to place and connect. Lumio’s design intent, as described in interview-based coverage, was to balance cabinet size and output for use beside a TV or on a desk; that intent does not establish how the speakers will perform in a particular room.
What can you connect?
Lumio lists HDMI 2.0 ARC/CEC, Bluetooth 5.4, USB, optical, coaxial and RCA analog inputs. For a TV with compatible ARC support, HDMI is the most direct route; Lumio says CEC lets the TV remote control speaker power and volume. Bluetooth handles wireless playback, while the other digital and analog inputs accommodate compatible sources. The manufacturer says lossless playback up to 24-bit/48 kHz is supported on compatible digital inputs, and FLAC playback is supported from USB.

- Single 4" spun-copper IMG woofer
- 1" aluminum LTS tweeter mated to a 90x90 square Tractrix Horn
- 68 hertz - 21 kilohertz +/- 3dB; Nominal impedance - 8 ohms; Compatible crossover frequency – 1,730 hertz
- Sensitivity 90dB @ 2.83V/1M. Power Handling (CONT/PEAK) 50W/200W
- The exclusive Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performances. Kapton is an extremely light and rigid material used in the tweeter suspension to provide high efficiency and improve resolution and detail. LTS tweeters are a hallmark of Klipsch speakers, making it a core component of some of the best speakers in the world
Turntable owners should check one specific requirement: Lumio says the turntable needs a built-in phono preamp. Appropriate cables are sold separately, so a turntable without a phono preamp cannot simply be assumed to connect directly.

How to decide between bookshelf speakers and a soundbar
| Decision point | Lumio Aura 5 | Soundbar |
|---|---|---|
| Placement | Two cabinets need suitable space and separation. | One cabinet is simpler to position beneath or near a TV. |
| Amplification and setup | Built-in amplification; Lumio lists HDMI and speaker cables in the box. | Depends on the model; check its connections and whether extra components are needed. |
| Sources | Lumio lists ARC/CEC, Bluetooth, USB, optical, coaxial and RCA; turntable use has a phono-preamp condition. | Inputs and wireless features vary by model. |
| Sound evidence | No controlled comparison against a named soundbar or independent review result is established in the cited coverage. | Performance varies by model; compare independent tests under comparable conditions. |
Aura 5 is more plausible for a listener who wants two-channel stereo, has room to separate speakers, and values connecting several kinds of sources. A soundbar may suit someone prioritizing a single compact unit. Neither layout wins automatically: room, seating, TV connections and listening habits matter more than the product category label.

- STUDIO SOUND QUALITY - Naturally fine tuned sound reproduction from 4 inch bass and 13mm silk dome tweeter.
- OPTICAL AND COAXIAL INPUTS - Digital inputs to enable lossless connection to most TV and computers.
- REMOTE CONTROL - Adjust the volume and toggle inputs at your fingertips. Bass and treble control located on the side of main speaker.
- SIDE PANEL CONTROLS - Use the side panel knobs to adjust the EQ to your liking. The controls are located on the active/powered speaker.
What do the performance specifications establish?
Lumio lists 100 W RMS continuous output at 1% THD and 200 W peak output. It also specifies 105 dB(C) continuous SPL and 112 dB(C) maximum SPL at one metre, a signal-to-noise ratio above 77 dBA, and an anechoic frequency response of 40 Hz–20 kHz ±3 dB. These are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements.
The stated in-room bass extension is inconsistent on Lumio’s own product page: descriptive copy says 35 Hz at 80 dB, while the specifications table says 32 Hz at 80 dB. Neither figure should be treated as a settled performance result without clarification. A low-frequency endpoint alone also does not show how much output is available at that frequency or how the speaker behaves in a real room. MySmartPrice’s interview-based analysis likewise cautions against treating specifications as a substitute for listening; it reported that its review was still forthcoming.

Modes, controls and price
Lumio lists three sound modes—Studio, Cinema and Groove—and physical bass, treble and volume knobs. These give listeners ways to adjust playback, but the available sources do not establish how the modes compare in listening tests.
