On a Samsung Galaxy S23+, press the Side button and Volume Down together, then release to take a screenshot. For a long webpage or other scrollable screen, tap Scroll capture in the toolbar that appears. Find saved screenshots in Gallery.
Take a standard screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side button and Volume Down at the same time, then release both buttons. Samsung documents this button combination for the S23 series in its Galaxy S23-series user manual.
- Open Gallery to view the screenshot.
Use a brief simultaneous press rather than holding the buttons down. Samsung describes the shortcut as pressing them together; holding can trigger a different device action.

Use Palm swipe instead
If you would rather not press the buttons, swipe the edge of your hand across the display. If the gesture does not work, enable it in Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture, then try again.

Menu wording and locations may differ after software updates. Samsung’s Galaxy screenshot support guide says you can also search Settings for “Palm swipe to capture.”

Capture more than one screen with Scroll capture
- Open the webpage or other content that extends below the visible screen.
- Take a standard screenshot with the buttons.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture to include more of the page as it scrolls. Tap again as needed to extend the capture.
Scroll capture is intended for elongated content, such as webpages. It appears only when the screen can scroll and may not be offered by every app or page. Samsung’s support guide also gives this setting path if the toolbar is not showing: Settings → Advanced features → Screenshots and screen recorder → Show toolbar after capturing. Labels may vary by software version.
Edit, tag, share, and find screenshots
The screenshot toolbar can provide options to crop or draw on the image, add tags, and share it. You can find captured images in Gallery; adding a tag can help you locate one later. The manual confirms Gallery as the place to check captures, but does not establish one file-system folder path that applies to every software build.

When screenshot features do not work
- The button shortcut fails: Press Side and Volume Down together and release, rather than holding them for an extended time.
- Palm swipe does nothing: Check that Palm swipe to capture is enabled under Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures.
- Scroll capture is missing: Confirm the content extends beyond the screen and can scroll. If necessary, enable Show toolbar after capturing in the Screenshots and screen recorder settings.
- A particular screen cannot be captured: Samsung’s S23-series manual states, “It is not possible to capture a screenshot while using some apps and features.” A protected screen may block capture; Samsung does not document a universal workaround.
Screenshot or screen recording?
A screenshot saves a still image; screen recording captures activity over time. Samsung says screen recording is available on supported Galaxy devices, including S23 model families, but availability depends on model and software version. Some apps may block recording, and calls—including VoIP and video calls—are not recorded. See Samsung’s screen recorder support information for further details.
