This captures the element inside the iframe—not the whole page.

Capture an element inside an iframe
Playwright page-level interactions operate in the main frame by default. To target content inside an iframe, use page.frameLocator(selector), then locate the content within that frame. Call screenshot() on the locator for the specific element you want in the image.

Use an accessible locator when possible
For controls with an accessible role and name, a role locator can make the target clearer than a styling class:

Make the iframe selector unambiguous
Frame locators are strict: an operation can fail if the iframe selector matches more than one element. Prefer a stable attribute that identifies the intended iframe, such as a meaningful name or title, rather than a broad selector that matches every iframe on the page.
If several matching frames are genuinely expected, narrow the iframe locator intentionally before converting it with contentFrame(). For example, .first() or .nth(index) can select one match; indexes are zero-based. Use an index only when the page structure makes that choice reliable. See the FrameLocator API and Locator API.

Use an element locator for an isolated target; use page.screenshot() when the page itself is the subject. Playwright’s Screenshots guide and Page API describe these page-level and element-level approaches.

For a target that moves during capture, disable animations in the locator screenshot options:

Troubleshoot common failures
- The frame locator finds more than one iframe: use a selector tied to the intended iframe’s attributes. If multiple matches are expected, narrow the iframe locator deliberately; avoid an arbitrary index.
- The element is not found inside the frame: check that the selector belongs to the iframe’s document, not the parent page, and verify that the iframe selector identifies the expected frame.
- You captured more than the desired content: call
screenshot()on the locator for the specific element. A call topage.screenshot()captures the page rather than just that matched element. - The captured target changes between runs: try
animations: 'disabled'in the locator screenshot options.
