In Microsoft Edge, open the page, choose Settings and more > Screenshot (or right-click the page), then press Capture area for a selection or Capture full page for the entire webpage. The documented keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+S. Edge previously called this feature Web Capture; current releases label it Screenshot.
Use Edge’s built-in Screenshot tool
- Open the webpage you want to save in Edge.
- Start Screenshot from Settings and more (… ) > Screenshot, from the page’s right-click context menu, or with Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Choose the capture mode that matches what you need.
- Use the controls Edge displays to copy the result or save it. Labels and button placement can vary between Edge releases.
Capture an area
Select Capture area, then drag around the region you want. This is useful for a chart, error message, paragraph, image, or any other portion of the rendered page. It captures the selected webpage region rather than the whole display, so browser chrome outside the selection is not included.
Capture a full webpage
Select Capture full page when the content extends below the visible viewport. Edge captures the page in one operation instead of requiring you to scroll and join several images manually. Review the result, then use its copy or save control.
Which screenshot method should you use?

Choose according to three questions: do you need a webpage or the visible screen, how much of it should be captured, and whether the action is a one-time manual task or an automated workflow.

If Screenshot is missing from Edge
Microsoft’s WebCaptureEnabled policy documentation says that when the policy is enabled or not configured, Screenshot appears in the context menu, the Settings and more menu, and through Ctrl+Shift+S. On a work or school computer, an administrator can disable or control the feature. If all three entry points are absent, ask your organization’s IT administrator whether the policy is blocking it.
The shortcut is documented for Edge, but Microsoft’s general Edge shortcut list does not present it as a universal shortcut entry. If Ctrl+Shift+S does nothing on your installation or platform, use the menu or context-menu command instead. Interface names and controls can change with Edge updates, so install the current supported Edge release before troubleshooting further.
Windows and macOS alternatives
Windows 10 and Windows 11: Snipping Tool
- Press Windows key + Shift + S.
- Choose rectangular snip, freeform snip, window snip, or full-screen snip from the toolbar.
- Select the area, window, or screen.
- Open the notification to edit, save, or share the capture.
Snipping Tool is a screen-capture utility. A full-screen snip records what is currently visible; it does not provide Edge’s dedicated full-page webpage capture for content below the viewport.

macOS screen shortcuts
- Shift + Command + 3: capture the whole screen.
- Shift + Command + 4: capture a selected region.
- Shift + Command + 4, then press Space: capture a window or menu.
These are operating-system captures. Microsoft’s documented sources do not establish a complete cross-platform matrix for Edge’s in-browser Screenshot shortcut, so do not assume that Ctrl+Shift+S behaves identically on every Mac version.

Capture the right scope
For a support ticket, select only the error and the surrounding context. For an article archive or design review, use Capture full page so sections below the fold are not omitted. If a page contains private account data, select a smaller region or redact the image before sharing.
Wait for dynamic content
Let charts, images, and embedded components finish loading before starting a capture. If a page is still changing, a second capture after the layout settles can avoid missing content or capturing a loading placeholder.

Check long-page boundaries
Review a full-page result from top to bottom. Sticky headers, animated elements, lazy-loaded images, and infinite-scroll pages can make a long capture differ from what you saw while scrolling. If the page never reaches a stable end, an area capture or a scripted capture with an explicit wait may be more reliable.

Troubleshooting checklist
The Screenshot command is not visible
- Try both Settings and more > Screenshot and the page context menu.
- Use the current Edge build and restart the browser.
- On a managed device, ask whether the WebCaptureEnabled policy has disabled the feature.
Ctrl+Shift+S opens something else or does nothing
Shortcut assignments can differ by platform, keyboard layout, extensions, or organizational policy. Use the menu command; it is the documented fallback when the shortcut is unavailable.

Full-page capture is incomplete
Wait for lazy content and animations, then recapture. Pages with infinite scrolling may not have a finite endpoint. Capture a defined area, or use an automated API with a selector wait, delay, network-idle wait, or full-page option.
The image includes a popup or consent banner
