Press the Power (also called the Side key) and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Release them together, then use the preview to open, edit, or share the screenshot. On the Pixel 10a, the device-specific Android 16 guide calls the power button the Side key and identifies the lower part of the Volume key; Google’s Pixel-wide help calls the same controls Power and Volume Down.
The standard Pixel 10a screenshot shortcut
- Open the screen you want to save.
- Press the Power/Side key and the lower part of the Volume key (Volume Down) at exactly the same time.
- Release both buttons together.
- Tap the screenshot preview if you want to open, edit, or share the image immediately.
The shortcut works from most ordinary apps and screens. You do not need to hold the buttons down; a simultaneous press is the important part. If the volume slider or power menu appears instead, the two buttons were probably pressed at different times. Try again with the phone held securely and both fingers landing together.
Identifying the controls
Pixel instructions use two names for the same power control. Google’s general help says Power, while the Pixel 10a Android 16 device guide says Side key. The volume rocker’s lower section is Volume Down. No special case, accessory, or extra screenshot application is required for this built-in method.
Capture a long page with “Capture more”
For a long conversation, article, settings list, or other scrollable view, start with the same Power/Side key plus Volume Down shortcut.

- Capture the visible screen.
- When the preview and controls appear, tap Capture more if it is offered.
- Drag the crop guides to include the exact portion of the page you need.
- Save or share the resulting extended screenshot from the preview.
Google documents scrolling screenshots for Android 12 and later on most screens that support scrolling. The Pixel 10a guide is labeled Android 16, but Capture more is still conditional: it may be absent on a screen that cannot expose its content as a scrollable page. A normal screenshot of the visible area remains available when the extended option does not appear.
Why “Capture more” may be missing
- The current screen is not scrollable or does not expose a supported scrolling region.
- The app or view does not provide the information Android needs to extend the capture.
- You are looking at a page where only the visible viewport can be captured.
There is no separate setting that guarantees a scrolling capture on every app. Try the standard shortcut again after opening the content you actually want to extend.
Take a screenshot without pressing both buttons
Pixel software provides several alternatives. Choose the one that matches your navigation setup and whether you need hands-free control.
Gesture navigation
- Swipe up from the bottom edge and hold to open the recent-apps view.
- Select the open app you want to capture if it is not already selected.
- Tap Screenshot.
This route is useful when pressing two physical buttons together is awkward or when the phone is mounted in a stand.

- Tap Overview to open recent apps.
- Choose the app or app card that contains the screen you want.
- Tap Screenshot.
The Overview method is the button-based navigation equivalent of the gesture procedure. The exact navigation bar shown depends on which navigation mode is active on your Pixel 10a.

Quick Tap on the back of the phone
Quick Tap can be assigned to take a screenshot with two taps on the back of a Pixel. To configure it, open Settings > System > Gestures > Start an action with a quick tap, then select Screenshot if that action is offered on your current software.
Quick Tap is configurable rather than automatic. If Screenshot is not listed, install any available system update and check the same menu again; do not assume that every software build presents exactly the same action list.
Google Assistant voice command
When voice interaction is available and appropriate for your settings, say: “Hey Google, take a screenshot.” Google Pixel Help documents this as a way to capture the current screen without touching the buttons.

Use the capture preview
Immediately after a successful capture, a preview appears. Tap it to open the image, use the available editing tools, or send it through the Share control. This is the fastest route when you need to mark up or forward the screenshot right away.
Find older screenshots in Google Photos
Open Google Photos > Collections > On this device > Screenshots. The Screenshots folder contains the captures saved on the Pixel 10a. Open any image there to use Edit or Share.

Crop a scrolling capture carefully
With an extended screenshot, inspect the start and end guides before saving. Keep the crop inside the content you intended to document; otherwise a long page can include unrelated material above or below the conversation or article.

Troubleshooting Pixel 10a screenshots
The power menu or volume slider appears
Pressing one button slightly before the other can trigger a different control. Return to the target screen, place one finger on Power/Side and one on Volume Down, and press simultaneously for a brief moment rather than holding either button.
No preview appears
Try the shortcut once more and watch for the brief preview near the edge of the display. If you used an alternative method, verify that you selected the correct app card in Overview before tapping Screenshot. Then check Google Photos > Collections > On this device > Screenshots.
Capture more is not available
That usually means the current view is not a supported scrollable screen. Android’s scrolling capture works on most, not all, scrollable screens. Capture the visible area normally or move to a supported page within the app and try again.
Quick Tap does not take a screenshot
Open Settings > System > Gestures > Start an action with a quick tap. Confirm that Quick Tap is enabled and that Screenshot is the selected action. If Screenshot is not offered, use the button shortcut, Overview, or voice command instead.

The voice command does nothing
Use the physical shortcut or the Overview method when voice interaction is unavailable, disabled, or unsuitable for the situation. Google’s documented phrase is “Hey Google, take a screenshot.”
The screenshot is of the wrong app
Recent-apps methods operate on the app card you select. Reopen Overview, choose the intended app, and tap Screenshot only after its card is active. For the hardware shortcut, return to the exact screen you want before pressing the two controls.
Privacy and sharing checks
A screenshot is a copy of whatever is visible, including names, messages, account details, notifications, or one-time codes. Before sharing, open the image in the preview or Google Photos and use Edit to crop or mark out information that the recipient should not see. For long captures, inspect the entire extended image because content outside the initial viewport may also be included.
