To capture an entire page with ScreenshotOne, send a request to its /take endpoint with your target URL, access key, and full_page=true. If the result misses lazy-loaded content or has layout problems, adjust the scroll timing or try the section-based algorithm. For very long pages, cap the height or request slices.
Make a basic full-page ScreenshotOne request
ScreenshotOne recommends HTTPS. The simplest request is a GET with the capture options in the URL:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
https://api.screenshotone.com/take?url=https://example.com&full_page=true&access_key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY
Replace https://example.com with the page you want to capture and YOUR_ACCESS_KEY with your ScreenshotOne access key. Keep the key private: do not publish it in client-side code, public examples, or a URL that others can access. See ScreenshotOne’s Getting Started guide for request basics.

GET requests put options in the URL; ScreenshotOne also accepts POST requests with options in a JSON body. If you use POST, send the same target URL, access key, and full-page option in the request rather than placing them in a browser address bar. The maximum POST body size documented in ScreenshotOne’s getting-started material is 100 MiB. Getting Started
Choose the capture dimensions and algorithm
Set the responsive layout with viewport width
The viewport width affects the responsive layout the site renders and the resulting screenshot width. ScreenshotOne’s full-page guide lists 1280 pixels as the default viewport width. Set a width that matches the layout you need to inspect—for example, a desktop-width capture and a narrower mobile layout are different page renderings, not merely different crops.

Use the default algorithm or capture by sections
The default full-page algorithm stretches the rendered viewport to the page height. With full_page_algorithm=by_sections, ScreenshotOne scrolls through the page and combines captures of successive sections. This can help with complex layouts and scroll-triggered content, but it can take longer and remains sensitive to the page’s behavior while scrolling. The documented default viewport height is 1024 pixels; with section capture, viewport height determines the size of each section.
Try the section-based method when the default result has layout or rendering issues:

Smaller section heights may trigger more lazy-loading events, but they can increase capture time. Compare the output against the target page, especially where sticky elements, scroll-dependent content, animations, or changing product galleries are involved. ScreenshotOne’s full-page guide notes that full-page rendering may not work for every page, even after tuning.
Load lazy content before capturing
Full-page capture automatically scrolls by default to help load lazy images. If images or sections are still missing, tune the scroll distance and delay between scrolls, or add an overall page delay. The guide gives full_page_scroll_by=500 and full_page_scroll_delay=1500 as example settings—not universal best values—and suggests adding 5 to 10 seconds of delay for pages that need more time.
https://api.screenshotone.com/take?url=https://example.com&full_page=true&full_page_scroll_by=500&full_page_scroll_delay=1500&delay=7&access_key=YOUR_ACCESS_KEY
Here, delay=7 is an example of an additional seven-second delay; adjust it to the site rather than assuming every page needs the same wait. Smaller scroll steps and longer pauses may help trigger content loading but can make a request slower. Recheck the resulting image because lazy-loading behavior depends on the target site. The option names and examples are documented in the ScreenshotOne options reference.

Limit or split an unusually tall capture
Set a maximum height
For an infinite-scroll or unusually tall page, use full_page_max_height to put a ceiling on the capture. This keeps the output bounded instead of attempting to represent an indefinitely growing page. Choose a cap appropriate to the content you need; a lower cap means content farther down the page will not appear.
Return slices for image-processing workflows
If a downstream image viewer or analysis step struggles with one very tall image, request full_page_slices=true along with full_page=true. ScreenshotOne returns a slice array in JSON responses. The documented default slice height is 4000 pixels, with a permitted range from 1 to 16000 pixels. Overlap is optional, but the slice height minus overlap must leave at least a 100-pixel step. Slices cannot be combined with store=true.

Adjust slice height and overlap for the consumer of the output: overlap can preserve context at boundaries, while smaller slices may be easier to process individually. Check the live guide to slicing full-page screenshots for the current option details.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Control motion and page noise when needed
For captures that vary because of animation, reduce_motion=true actively reduces supported animation and pauses supported looping media, on a best-effort basis. Custom JavaScript, canvas, and animated images can still differ. The separate reduced_motion=true option sets a browser preference and depends on the page honoring it; it is not the same intervention.
ScreenshotOne’s e-commerce guide also describes options for blocking ads, trackers, cookie banners, chats, and heuristic banners. These are situational: removing page elements changes what the screenshot depicts. Scroll-dependent content, repeated sticky elements, animations, and changing product galleries may also make captures inconsistent. Use such controls only when the resulting image should omit those elements. ScreenshotOne’s guide to e-commerce screenshots
Troubleshoot common full-page capture problems
- Lazy images or sections are missing: reduce the scroll step, increase the delay between scrolls, or add page delay. Then inspect the output again; the right timing depends on the site.
- The layout is broken or sections do not line up: try
full_page_algorithm=by_sections. It may work better on a complex page, though it takes longer and still depends on scroll timing. - Sticky headers or other elements repeat: compare the default and section-based captures. Scrolling can affect sticky and scroll-dependent elements, so neither method guarantees a single, seamless representation of every page.
- Animations or media change between captures: try
reduce_motion=truefor supported effects. It is best-effort and does not freeze every custom animation, canvas, or animated image. - The page is too tall or never ends: set
full_page_max_heightto bound the output, or use slices if the receiving workflow needs smaller images. - The request fails before rendering: confirm the endpoint, target URL, access key, and option names against the current options reference. Keep credentials private and use HTTPS as recommended by Getting Started.

If you prefer a one-call API rather than configuring a ScreenshotOne request, ScreenshotNeo is another website screenshot API, with an MCP server for AI agents. Its API accepts a URL and returns a screenshot or PDF; here is a cURL example that saves a WebP:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. Before the capture, it accepts the cookie or consent banner like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client can use its take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
