In Chrome, set the page to a custom responsive width and height in Device Mode, then choose More options > Capture a full size screenshot. That captures content beyond the visible viewport while keeping the page laid out at the dimensions you chose. For repeatable captures, use Playwright or Puppeteer to set the viewport before taking a full-page screenshot.
Capture a full-page screenshot manually in Chrome
- Open the webpage in Chrome, then open DevTools.
- Turn on the Device toolbar.
- In the dimensions control, select Responsive.
- Enter the target width and height in pixels. For example, Chrome’s official guide uses 480 by 415 pixels as an example; use the dimensions you need instead.
- Choose the device type. Select Mobile if you want mobile rendering and touch interaction behavior. Set the device pixel ratio (DPR) if pixel density matters to your output.
- Open More options in the Device toolbar and select Capture a full size screenshot. The regular Capture screenshot command captures only the currently visible area.
Chrome lets you enter custom width and height or drag the viewport handles. Device Mode can also configure DPR, user-agent string, and device type. Match these settings when the page’s behavior depends on more than its dimensions. Chrome DevTools Device Mode documentation.

What “custom mobile viewport” controls—and what it does not
Width and height determine the emulated viewport, but they do not fully define a physical phone. The page can respond differently depending on whether mobile rendering is enabled, whether touch events are available, the device pixel ratio, the user agent, and the page’s viewport metadata. Choose the settings relevant to the behavior you are checking.
Device Mode is an approximation: it does not run the page on mobile hardware. If the result depends on real-device hardware behavior, verify it on an actual device. Chrome’s Device Mode guide.

Automate repeatable full-page captures
For a one-off image, DevTools is direct. For repeated captures or a test workflow, browser automation lets you set the emulation options in code and capture the page consistently. The essential order is to configure the viewport and device behavior, navigate, wait for meaningful content to render, then capture the full page.
Playwright
Playwright supports device configurations and per-test viewport overrides. Device settings can include a user agent, screen size, viewport, and touch support. The screenshot option fullPage: true captures the full scrollable page. Set scale to "css" for CSS-pixel output or "device" for device-pixel-ratio output. })();Replace the example URL and dimensions with your target. The viewport is expressed in CSS pixels; deviceScaleFactor controls the emulated pixel density. If your capture should reflect only CSS-pixel dimensions, keep scale: 'css'. Use Playwright’s device descriptors when you also need a particular device’s documented user agent or other emulation settings, then override the viewport if needed.
Puppeteer

If you are using the protocol directly, Emulation.setDeviceMetricsOverride sets dimensions and mobile emulation behavior. Page.captureScreenshot accepts a format, clip, and captureBeyondViewport options. Configure emulation before capturing, and use the full-page/beyond-viewport behavior appropriate to your capture. Handle content that appears only after scrolling or interaction
A full-page option captures the document’s scrollable area, but it does not guarantee that every element has loaded. Pages may load images or sections lazily, or reveal content only after scrolling or interaction. Before capture, trigger the behavior needed to render the content and confirm it is present. Then take the screenshot. This is a page-specific loading concern, not a guarantee made by the screenshot APIs.

Troubleshooting
The screenshot shows only the first screen
In DevTools, use Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot. In automation, enable the full-page option, such as Playwright’s fullPage: true or Puppeteer’s equivalent.

Check that mobile emulation or the intended device type is enabled. If the page relies on user-agent detection, touch events, or viewport metadata, width and height alone may not reproduce its mobile layout.
The image dimensions or sharpness are unexpected
Distinguish CSS-pixel output from device-pixel output. Playwright exposes this choice through its screenshot scale option; device pixel ratio also affects emulation. Align the DPR and output scale with the image you need.

Images or sections are missing
Wait for the page’s meaningful content to render. If content is lazy-loaded, scroll through the relevant regions or perform the interaction that reveals it before capturing; a full-page screenshot does not itself ensure that deferred content has loaded.
The result does not match a real phone
Device Mode and browser emulation approximate mobile behavior; they are not a substitute for running the page on physical hardware when the difference depends on the device itself.
