To capture a full webpage, including content below the fold, first decide whether the cookie banner or popup should appear in the image. Leave it in place if you need to document what visitors see. For an unobstructed capture, use the page’s own close, reject, or preference controls; if those do not work and changing the page’s appearance is acceptable, hide the overlay in Firefox Developer Tools. Firefox offers a no-code full-page capture, while Playwright is suited to repeatable automated screenshots.
Choose whether to keep or remove the overlay
A cookie notice can be part of the evidence you need. If you are recording the page as it appeared to you, leave the notice visible and take the screenshot in that state. If the goal is to show the underlying page without obstruction, use the banner or popup’s own close, reject, or preference controls according to your choice. A site may not offer a close control, and the same steps will not dismiss every overlay.
Removing a notice with a browser tool changes the page’s presentation. If you hide or delete it, describe the result as a modified-page screenshot rather than an untouched record.
Take a full-page screenshot in Firefox without code
- Open the page in Firefox and let it load. Set the banner or popup to the state you want to capture.
- Open Developer Tools and open its settings.
- Under Available Toolbox Buttons, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page.
- Select the screenshot button in the Developer Tools toolbar. Firefox saves the screenshot in the browser’s Downloads directory.
- Open the saved file and check that the image includes the intended page content and overlay state.
These controls and labels are Firefox-specific; they should not be assumed to match Chrome, Safari, or mobile browsers.

Use Firefox’s Web Console command
For a command-based one-off capture, open Firefox Developer Tools, select the Web Console, and run:
screenshot filename.png --fullpageReplace filename.png with the filename you want. The command captures the full page rather than only the visible viewport. Check the resulting file to confirm that the banner and page content appear as intended.
Hide a stubborn overlay in Firefox Inspector
If the overlay cannot be dismissed and an altered rendering is acceptable, use the Inspector to select its page element. Firefox documents these controls for the selected node:

- Press H to hide or show the node.
- Press Backspace or Delete to delete the node.
Hiding or deleting a node affects what the screenshot shows; it does not record the page in its original, untouched state. Avoid this approach when the overlay itself is part of the evidence.
Automate repeated captures with Playwright
Playwright’s screenshot API supports full-page capture of the scrollable page. With a page that has already been created and navigated to the target URL, use:

Check the capture and troubleshoot common problems
- The screenshot shows only the visible viewport: In Firefox, use the entire-page toolbox button or the Web Console command with
--fullpage. In Playwright, setfullPage: true. - The banner still covers content: It may not have been dismissed, or the page may not provide a control that removes it. Decide whether to preserve it, use its available controls, or alter the rendering with Inspector if that suits the purpose.
- The page is incomplete or still loading: Wait for the page to finish loading before capturing, then inspect the saved image. Dynamic content can affect what is present at capture time.
- The image does not match the original page: Check whether you hid or deleted an element, or used Playwright’s mask or style options. Those treatments change the screenshot presentation.
