To sync Safari bookmarks between devices, turn on Safari in iCloud on every iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and sign each one in to the same Apple Account. Bookmarks, including folders and their organization, then stay up to date across those devices. On a Windows PC, turn on Bookmarks in iCloud for Windows and open the browser you selected during setup to see them.
Set up Safari bookmark sync on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings and tap your name.
- Tap iCloud.
- Tap See All or Show All, then turn on Safari.
- Open Safari to see your synced bookmarks.
Check that the device is signed in to the same Apple Account as your other devices. If Safari is off, or the account is different, the device cannot reach the Safari data stored in iCloud.

Set up Safari bookmark sync on Mac
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Click your name, then click iCloud.
- Turn on Safari. The exact location of the switch depends on your macOS version (see the table below).
- Open Safari.
The Mac must use the same Apple Account as your iPhone, iPad, and any other Mac.

Set up bookmark sync on a Windows PC
Safari does not run on Windows, so Apple’s Windows route works differently. Bookmarks are accessed through iCloud for Windows and the browser you choose during setup.

- Install or open iCloud for Windows.
- In iCloud for Windows, click the control beside Bookmarks and turn it on.
- Click Done.
- Open the browser you selected during iCloud for Windows setup to view your bookmarks.
What syncs between devices
Apple states that bookmarks sync across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, including folders and their organization. They also sync to Windows PCs that use iCloud for Windows. The same Safari iCloud feature also covers Reading List, browsing history, open tabs, Tab Groups, profiles, and settings, with some exceptions. Extensions are not installed automatically on each device, so you need to add them on every device you use.
If bookmarks do not appear
Work through these checks in order. Each step is cheap, and the earlier ones catch the most common causes.

- Check Apple System Status for an iCloud Bookmarks & Tabs issue. If the status page does not load, check your internet connection first.
- Confirm that every device uses the same Apple Account and meets iCloud’s requirements for bookmark sync.
- Confirm that Safari is turned on in iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac, or that Bookmarks is turned on in iCloud for Windows.
- If the setting is already on, turn Safari (or Bookmarks) off and back on. On Windows, deselect Bookmarks, click Apply, wait a few seconds, select Bookmarks again, and click Apply again.
- Check that the date and time settings on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac are correct. Incorrect clocks can interfere with sync.
- On Windows, restart iCloud for Windows, then restart the browser. Apple also recommends trying a different browser.
- Restart the browser and the device.
Apple’s troubleshooting article is dated June 16, 2026. If none of these steps restores sync, the status page is the first place to check for a service-wide problem.

Apple warns: “If you have a folder with more than 500 bookmarks, the order of your bookmarks may not be the same on all of your devices.” Your bookmarks still sync, but the sequence in a very large folder may differ from device to device. Splitting a large folder into several smaller subfolders is a practical way to keep the order consistent.

Restore deleted or archived bookmarks
Safari bookmarks are archived automatically. To restore an earlier version, open icloud.com/recovery in a browser and sign in with your Apple Account. Apple’s troubleshooting page says bookmarks deleted within the last 30 days can be recovered through Restore Bookmarks on that site.
If the restore view shows no bookmarks, Apple says Safari may not have been turned on in iCloud settings on your devices. Turn it on, let the devices sync, and then check the recovery page again.

Older devices and manual copies
Apple’s legacy support article lists minimum software requirements for bookmark sync or access on iCloud.com, effective 18 December 2024: iOS 11 or later, iPadOS 11 or later, and macOS Sierra 10.12.6 or later. Devices running iOS 10 or earlier, or macOS Sierra 10.12.5 or earlier, can keep their local bookmarks. However, new bookmarks on those devices will no longer sync or be recoverable through iCloud.com.

Copy bookmarks from an iPhone or iPad
- Open Safari and go to the Bookmarks view.
- Touch and hold a folder or bookmark, then choose Copy Contents.
- Paste the copied content into a note, a file, or another browser.
Export bookmarks from a Mac
- In Safari, choose File > Export > Bookmarks.
- Save the file. By default it is named
Safari Bookmarks.htmlunless you rename it.
