You can’t make a YouTube live stream continuous just by putting videos in a cloud folder. A separate service or encoder must find and order the files, play them as a continuous audio-and-video feed, and send that feed to YouTube Live. For the least hands-on setup, use a hosted service; for control over file discovery and playlist behavior, build and operate a cloud pipeline.
What “sync” means in this setup
A cloud folder stores video files; it is not itself a live feed. The working chain is video folder → file and playlist automation → encoder or streaming service → YouTube Live. The encoder or service reads the media, produces a continuous stream, and sends it to YouTube.

YouTube models the viewer-facing event and the incoming audio/video stream as related but distinct resources. Its Live Streaming API manages broadcasts and streams; it does not document watching a cloud folder, detecting changed files, arranging a playlist, or looping its contents. 2. Another hosted prerecorded-video service
YouTube Help identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. That description does not establish that Gyre can connect to an arbitrary cloud folder or automatically react when files are added or replaced. Treat it as a candidate to check, not a confirmed folder-sync solution. Start with YouTube’s Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder help page, which points to the tool.
3. Build a custom cloud pipeline
A custom system gives you control over storage access, discovery, ordering, and change handling, but you must build and operate those components. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API accepts live input, transcodes it to HLS or DASH, and saves output streams to Cloud Storage. Its documented features include automatic infrastructure provisioning and backup input. This is a cloud live-processing building block, not a documented turnkey service that watches a folder and publishes to YouTube.

You can keep a computer or hardware encoder connected to the source files and internet, then send the stream to YouTube. This avoids building cloud infrastructure, but the local machine, source access, and upload connection must remain available while streaming. A continuously running local computer is an architecture choice, not a required purchase for every cloud-hosted source.

Verify folder sync before choosing a provider
Do not assume that “cloud streaming” means automatic synchronization with your existing storage. Ask the provider these specific questions before moving a channel to it:
- Does it connect to your exact storage provider and folder, or do you need to upload files into the service?
- Are new files detected automatically? What happens when a file is replaced, renamed, or deleted?
- Can you control playlist order, repeat behavior, and what happens when the playlist ends?
- Which video and audio formats, codecs, frame rates, and resolutions are accepted?
- How is the YouTube stream key configured and protected?
- What happens after a network interruption or if YouTube disconnects the incoming stream? Does playback restart automatically?
- What monitoring, alerts, storage limits, plan restrictions, and restart terms apply?
The cited YouTube description of Gyre does not answer these implementation questions or establish current plan terms. Confirm them with the provider before relying on folder updates to appear in a live playlist.
Build the custom cloud workflow
A practical custom design separates file management from live ingest. The folder supplies media; automation discovers eligible files and creates an ordered playlist; a playback or encoder process turns that playlist into a continuous feed; YouTube receives it as a live stream; monitoring detects and responds to failures.

- Choose storage and define file rules. Decide which folder is authoritative, how files are named, and whether partially uploaded files must be excluded. Make a rule for when an upload is considered complete so the encoder does not try to read an unfinished file.
- Implement discovery and ordering. Use a storage API, event mechanism, or scheduled scan to find additions and removals. Define deterministic ordering—such as an explicit playlist file or a sortable naming convention—and decide whether changes apply immediately or at the next loop.
- Validate media before playback. Check that each file can be read and decoded, and establish what to do with unsupported or damaged files. Mixed formats may need normalization or a playback system able to handle them consistently.
- Create a continuous audio/video output. Configure a playback and encoding process to move from one item to the next and repeat the playlist. Design the transition at the end of a file so the output does not simply stop while automation starts the next item.
- Create and configure the YouTube event and incoming stream. YouTube’s API represents the broadcast separately from the stream carrying audio and video. Configure the broadcast and associate it with the stream; protect the stream key as a secret and do not put it in public logs or source code.
- Meet the selected ingest protocol. Choose an encoder and a YouTube-supported ingest route, then follow its protocol requirements. YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide is specifically for compatible encoder implementations: it requires HTTPS, a media playlist, muxed audio and video, and disciplined playlist and segment delivery. It is not a general instruction for uploading a folder.
- Monitor and recover. Track whether the encoder is producing output, whether YouTube is receiving it, and whether the broadcast remains live. Add alerts and restart logic for failures in storage access, playback, encoding, network transport, or ingest. Test recovery deliberately before treating the workflow as unattended.
Google Cloud Live Stream API and YouTube Live Streaming API cover different parts of this architecture. The cited documentation does not give an integrated recipe for turning a Cloud Storage folder into a YouTube broadcast. Simply placing videos in Cloud Storage does not start a YouTube live stream.

Use YouTube’s encoder route
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming, using streaming software or hardware. Its Help page says, “Using an encoder lets you:” and lists uses including sharing a screen, broadcasting gameplay, using external audio/video hardware, and managing a multi-camera production. For this workflow, the important point is that an encoder—not the folder—sends the live feed.
- Enable live streaming on the channel. If this is the first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Allow for that setup delay before scheduling a continuous stream.
- Create or select the YouTube broadcast and stream. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live, then configure the broadcast and its incoming stream. Use the current YouTube interface and the encoder’s documented connection steps; labels may vary as YouTube updates Studio.
- Copy the stream key into the encoder or hosted service. Treat it like a password. Use the key associated with the intended broadcast and do not share it publicly.
- Point the encoder at the playlist output. Ensure it can access the source files continuously. If the files are cloud-hosted, test that storage permissions and transfer performance remain adequate over long playback sessions.
- Start the encoder and check the YouTube preview/status. Confirm that both audio and video arrive and that the broadcast is live before relying on the automation.
Cost and operational trade-offs
The sources establish the workflow options, but do not provide comparable current prices or reliability guarantees for Gyre or a custom Google Cloud pipeline. For a custom build, estimate cloud compute, storage, network transfer, and engineering and monitoring time. For a hosted provider, verify current plans, included storage, folder integrations, and support terms directly.

Having a video in cloud storage does not establish that you have the rights to stream it. Before looping a playlist, check the license and permissions for every video and its audio, including music, artwork, and third-party footage. YouTube may apply copyright controls to live content. Repeated or largely reused material can also raise monetization-policy questions; a continuous stream is not a substitute for original value or permission. Review YouTube’s current channel and copyright rules, and use the copyright safety checklist before you go live.
Troubleshooting
New files do not appear
The provider may not watch that storage location, or custom discovery may be polling the wrong folder or filtering out files. Confirm the exact connected path, permissions, file-completion rule, and detection schedule. If using a hosted service, ask whether file changes are supported rather than assuming that they are.
The stream stops at the end of a video
The playback layer may be treating the playlist as a one-time queue. Check that looping is enabled and that transitions between files produce continuous output. In a custom setup, test the end-of-file handoff and restart behavior.

YouTube does not receive a picture or sound
Check the encoder’s output, stream-key association, and ingest status. Verify that the video and audio are present in the encoder output and that the chosen protocol’s requirements are met. For HLS implementations, consult YouTube’s documented requirements for HTTPS, muxed audio/video, playlists, and segments.
The broadcast is not live after setup
Confirm that live streaming has been enabled for the channel and that first-time activation has completed; YouTube says it may take up to 24 hours. Check that the intended broadcast is associated with the incoming stream and that the encoder is actively sending data.
The system does not recover after a disconnect
Identify which layer failed: storage access, file playback, encoder process, network connection, or YouTube ingest. Add monitoring and explicit restart or reconnect behavior for that layer, then test a deliberate interruption. Do not assume that a hosted service has a particular recovery guarantee without confirming its current terms.
