You can change a T-Mobile plan in T-Life or on T-Mobile.com, but don’t assume a discount or feature will carry over. T-Mobile says a price promotion tied to your current rate plan is lost when you switch. Before confirming a change, check the account’s promotions, compare the new plan’s benefits, and get T-Mobile to confirm what will remain available.
Before changing plans, document what your account has now
Sign in as the Primary Account Holder if possible. T-Mobile says current promotions can be reviewed in T-Life or online through plan details and the Discounts area. Record each promotion’s exact name, monthly amount, eligible lines, and any expiration or qualification terms shown in your account. The account’s available offers depend on its details; a promotion listed for one line may not apply to every line.

Also make an inventory of the services your household actually uses. T-Mobile separates plan services, add-ons, account benefits, and line-level features, so a feature may not appear in the same area as the plan itself. Use T-Mobile’s account and add-on guidance as a reference, and note the hotspot/data terms, streaming benefits, and add-ons you need to retain.
Compare the offered plan in your account
Plan-change choices are account-specific. To view the options T-Mobile is offering for your account:

- In T-Life: Open Account and choose Change Plan, or open plan details and Plan Summary. Select the offered plan to inspect the change options.
- On T-Mobile.com: Sign in, open Your plan, and choose Change plan. Select an offered plan to review its details.
Labels and screens can change. If a feature you need cannot be added or reviewed in the app, check T-Mobile.com or contact support; T-Mobile notes that some features cannot currently be added in T-Life.

- Net monthly cost: Compare the plan cost after account-specific discounts, not just the advertised plan price.
- Promotion eligibility: Check which lines qualify, the discount amount, and any stated duration or conditions.
- Included benefits and add-ons: Verify each feature you rely on, including data or hotspot terms and streaming benefits.
- Device financing and upgrades: Check open equipment installment plans (EIPs) and any upgrade benefit tied to the line.
- Transition requirements: Review any activation or other qualifications displayed for your account.
T-Mobile says offer value can vary with line count, eligible discounts, and included plan benefits. A plan that looks cheaper before account-specific discounts are applied may not be the less expensive option for your household.

T-Mobile’s Price Lock FAQ states: “If you switch to another plan in the future, you will lose whatever price promotion is tied to your old rate plan.” The FAQ advises customers to ask which promotions are available with the new rate plan. That warning concerns promotions tied to the old rate plan; it does not establish a universal rule for every discount, benefit, or feature. Do not treat any promotion as transferable unless your live account or T-Mobile confirms its status for the proposed plan.

Before submitting the change, ask T-Mobile to check each promotion you recorded by name and confirm whether it applies to the new plan, which lines qualify, and what the resulting monthly cost will be. Get clarification on features or add-ons separately if their status is unclear. T-Mobile’s account screens do not provide a universal transfer matrix for every legacy discount and feature.

If a line has Yearly Upgrade, plan eligibility matters. T-Mobile says the benefit requires an eligible Go5G Next or Experience Beyond plan. Its support guidance also describes a specific exception: customers who receive a status-change notice may return to an eligible plan within 30 days to keep Yearly Upgrade on their current open EIP. That 30-day period applies to this status-change scenario and is not a general way to restore every lost promotion or feature. Check T-Mobile’s Yearly Upgrade terms and ask how the proposed change affects the line’s open financing agreement and benefit.

Keep the offer and confirmation
Before submitting, save the plan details, promotion information, and any confirmation shown for the change. If the screens do not clearly show the discount or feature you want, pause rather than relying on an assumption: check the account on T-Mobile.com or contact T-Mobile for confirmation. Keep the final confirmation with your account records so you can compare it with the plan and bill after the change.
