Followers, subscriptions, channel history, and other assets should not be assumed to move with you. Prepare the new service, check its eligibility and terms, preserve archives you can, test the stream, and tell viewers exactly where and when to find you.
What changes—and what does not
A provider switch has separate account, encoder, content, audience, and monetization parts. The new service has its own channel and credentials. The official materials reviewed for YouTube, Kick, and Twitch describe service-specific profiles, audience tools, archives, and monetization; they do not document a general way to transfer followers, subscriptions, or channel history between providers.

Plan to rebuild what you control—such as overlays, alerts, panels, chat rules, moderator arrangements, and third-party integrations—rather than expect a one-click migration. Whether a particular asset can be exported or reused depends on the provider and the relevant rights or terms.
Choose and prepare the destination before announcing a date
Compare the parts that affect your stream
- Audience continuity: Check how viewers will find your new channel, including schedules, notifications, discovery, and profile links.
- Archives and portability: Check what can be downloaded or exported, and whether video metadata, comments, chat, or timestamps come with it.
- Monetization and commitments: Review eligibility, payout conditions, partner terms, sponsorship commitments, and any exclusivity or simulcast restrictions.
- Production fit: Confirm encoder compatibility, stream URL and key setup, quality limits, latency, mobile or vertical options, and the tools your production depends on.
- Community and policy: Compare moderation features, roles, bots, alerts, content rules, music policies, age requirements, account standing, and appeal processes.
Confirm the new account is ready
Check the destination’s current live-stream eligibility rules and make sure the channel can go live before you set an announcement date. For YouTube, Help currently says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days; its guidance also sets a minimum age of 16. Rules can change, so check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance for your account before scheduling.

Review both providers’ terms
Do not assume you may simulcast, direct viewers to another platform, or reuse content under the same conditions everywhere. Check both services’ current terms and any partner or sponsorship agreement that applies to you. Simulcast permissions and monetization consequences are account- and platform-specific.
Preserve VODs and other assets you can keep
- Make an inventory. List VODs, clips, panels and about text, emotes, overlays, alerts, chat rules, moderator contacts, links, scheduled events, and integrations.
- Save important recordings. Where available and permitted, download or export archives using the provider’s tools. Open a sample file and check that it plays before relying on a larger export.
- Check reuse rights and destination support. Confirm that the original service’s rights, contracts, and content policies allow reposting, and that the destination accepts the format you plan to upload. Keep source files and metadata separately where practical.
- Verify the current export path in your account. Twitch Help search-result guidance describes past broadcasts and a direct export option to YouTube for linked accounts, but the workflow should be confirmed in Twitch before you rely on it. Kick says a stream VOD is saved to the channel page after the broadcast ends. Those service-specific behaviors do not mean every archive is portable.
Set up the new stream destination and test it
Copy the destination’s URL and key into your encoder
Each streaming service supplies its own destination details. YouTube describes a stream key as the encoder’s password and address; a YouTube owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room. Kick’s guide, dated May 22, 2026, describes an OBS setup using the creator dashboard’s Stream URL and Key: in OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose Custom…, then enter the server URL and key from Kick. Kick also lists XSplit, Streamlabs Desktop, and MELD among supported applications. Labels can change, so use the current dashboard values rather than old screenshots.

Protect the stream key
Treat the key as a credential. Do not show it in screenshots or share it in chat. If it is exposed, reset it in the provider’s dashboard and replace the old value in the encoder. A key copied from one provider is not a portable credential for another provider.

Check output, stream details, and audience tools
- Set the title, category, privacy, schedule, and latency in the destination’s dashboard.
- Confirm resolution, frame rate, and bitrate against the destination’s current recommendations and your available upload speed. Kick advises keeping bitrate within maximum upload speed; its published limits can change.
- Check audio and video, overlays, alerts, chat, moderation access, and VOD creation. If you use horizontal and vertical outputs, verify each one separately.
- Use a private, unlisted, or otherwise low-risk test if the service supports it. Do not treat a test as successful until you have checked the stream and the tools viewers and moderators rely on.
Prepare a fallback
Before the first public broadcast, keep a backup of the new configuration and a way to contact viewers if setup fails. Draft a brief update explaining where the stream will resume, rather than leaving viewers to guess.
Move viewers with specific instructions
- Announce early on the old channel and on communication channels independent of it. Include the exact destination channel name and link, plus the first-stream date and time with a timezone.
- Repeat the message near the final broadcast on the old service. Update profile panels, social profiles, community servers, overlays, and scheduled-event descriptions you control.
- Set up destination notifications. Publish a schedule or upcoming event if the new service offers one. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear in subscribers’ feeds and viewers can choose “Notify me”; notification behavior is provider-specific.
- Leave a pointer on the old profile if its features and rules allow it. Do not count on the old service to redirect followers or carry notifications to the new channel.
Can you stream on both platforms during the transition?
Possibly, but check the rules for your specific accounts and agreements first. Kick’s May 22, 2026 guide says multistreaming is available only to Kick Partner Program streamers. For long-form destinations such as Twitch or YouTube, the guide says to enable Kick’s Multistreaming toggle; it also says payout is reduced by 50% for the duration of a multistreaming session. That is Kick’s stated partner condition, not a universal rule. Confirm your current partner status and terms before relying on it.
