To switch a Samsung Galaxy to 4G, open Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network mode and select an available option that includes LTE or 4G. On dual-SIM phones, choose the SIM whose network mode you want to change. The setting allows the phone to use LTE; it cannot create carrier support or coverage where those are unavailable.
Change the network mode to 4G or LTE
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections, then Mobile networks.
- If your phone has two SIMs, select the relevant SIM or its network-mode setting.
- Tap Network mode or the similarly named option.
- Choose a mode that includes LTE or 4G. An example on some Samsung phones is LTE/3G/2G (auto connect).
- Wait for the phone to reconnect. If it does not, restart the phone and check the status-bar network indicator.
Samsung notes that “Menu names, settings, and screen layouts may vary depending on the model and software version.” Your available options can also depend on the carrier and region. See Samsung’s network-mode instructions and Samsung’s Galaxy network troubleshooting guide.

What the network-mode options mean
Look for LTE or 4G in the option name. An automatic option that includes LTE and older networks lets the phone use LTE when available and fall back to an older network when needed. The exact choices differ among devices and carriers; select from the options your phone actually displays rather than assuming every Galaxy has the same list. Samsung’s Galaxy connectivity guidance gives LTE/3G/2G auto-connect as an example.

Selecting an LTE-capable mode does not guarantee an LTE connection. The phone, carrier service and SIM must support the network, and LTE coverage must be available where you are. If the network is unavailable or reception is poor, the phone may connect to an older network instead. Samsung identifies model, SIM, operator, software and coverage as factors affecting network options and connection; see its Colombia-market network-type guidance.

Troubleshoot a missing LTE option or connection
If you cannot find Network mode or LTE
- Check the device manual or Samsung support page for your model; menu paths and available modes vary.
- Ask your carrier whether your specific phone model and line support LTE. Do not rely on hidden dialer codes as a universal way to unlock the setting.
If LTE is listed but the phone stays on 3G or has no mobile data
- Make sure Airplane mode is off, then restart the phone.
- Try a location with better reception and check whether LTE coverage is available there.
- Check with your carrier that your SIM and service are suitable for the network and that the line is active. Samsung also recommends checking SIM and coverage when mobile data is not working.
- Install any available software update.
- If the issue continues, follow Samsung’s instructions to reset mobile network settings or restore the APN to its default. These actions can change network configuration, so review the prompts before confirming.
- Run mobile-network diagnostics in Samsung Members if available. Contact your carrier about account service, coverage, SIM or provisioning if the connection still fails.
For device-specific steps, see Samsung’s mobile-data troubleshooting guide. Samsung’s separate 5G support page discusses 5G compatibility and fallback; those 5G-specific SIM and plan details should not be treated as a universal LTE rule.
