Apple has not confirmed the reported iPhone-exclusive feature for its upcoming Home accessories. Reports point to NFC tap-to-setup—possibly before an accessory is powered on—but the claim has not been verified in an Apple statement or product document. The products themselves are described as manufacturer-built devices receiving a special designation in iOS, not as Apple-made hardware.
What is the reported iPhone feature?
The feature appears to be setting up an accessory by tapping an iPhone against it, potentially before the accessory has power. That claim surfaced in a search-result lead, but the underlying capability was not independently verified in the reviewed reporting. Apple has not publicly confirmed the method, its availability, or how it would work.

That means details such as supported iPhone models, required iOS version, whether the tap uses NFC in a particular way, and what “without power” means remain unknown. Treat “tap to set up without power” as a reported possibility, not a confirmed feature. The original claim appeared in a Reddit search-result lead, rather than verified Apple documentation.
How this differs from Apple’s documented Matter setup
Apple’s published Matter process does not describe the alleged tap-to-setup method. In the documented flow, an app requests permission through MatterSupport, iOS presents a camera viewfinder, and the user scans the accessory’s Matter setup code. The iPhone can then provision Wi-Fi or Thread credentials as appropriate, and the accessory can be added to Apple Home. Apple’s Matter support documentation for iOS is the official reference for this established process.
#1 Best Overall
- Rich, 360-Degree Sound – Delivers deep bass and crisp high frequencies for immersive audio in any room.
- Siri Voice Assistant – Control music, smart home devices, and get information hands-free.
- Seamless Apple Integration – Works effortlessly with iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV for a connected experience.
- Compact & Stylish Design – Small but powerful, fits perfectly in any space.
- Privacy & Security – Designed to keep your personal information safe and secure.
The comparison is therefore between a documented setup flow and an unverified report—not two confirmed setup options. It is not established whether the reported products will also support ordinary Matter setup, which iPhones or iOS versions might be required for the alleged tap, or whether setup would happen in Apple Home or a manufacturer app.
What “second-party” means in these reports
“Second-party” is a reported software designation for selected accessories built by other manufacturers. It does not mean Apple makes the products. In the LG reporting, devices would carry the LG brand, with LG responsible for manufacturing and support; iOS code is also reported to include Schneider-branded entries. The Schneider findings were reported from software analysis, not announced by Apple.

Which products have been reported?
LG: a broader reported lineup
A 9to5Mac report summarizing Bloomberg reporting described a possible LG-branded lineup of a wired video doorbell, floodlight camera, plug-in outdoor camera, plug-in indoor camera, smart deadbolt, smart thermostat, and temperature sensor. The report said LG had sought regulatory approvals, but the filings it cited did not themselves mention Apple. As of the report’s October 6, 2026 publication, consumers were not expected to see the products for at least a few more months; that is a contemporaneous estimate, not a confirmed launch date. Read the LG lineup report.

A separate report said iOS 27.2 code included Schneider-branded second-party entries for a smart thermostat and a temperature/humidity sensor. A further account described ten accessory identifiers in the code table: six associated with LG and four with Schneider. Identifiers are not proof of ten consumer products. The Schneider set was described as including a thermostat, a thermostat QA variant, a temperature/humidity sensor, and one unidentified accessory. The meaning of “Proximity Settings” in the code is an interpretation, not confirmation of a consumer-facing sensing feature. Matter Alpha’s account of the reported code entries provides that additional context.

What buyers can—and cannot—assume
- Established: Apple documents Matter pairing on iOS through scanning a setup code, with Wi-Fi or Thread credential provisioning when appropriate.
- Reported, not confirmed: LG and Schneider accessories may receive special treatment in iOS, and LG’s possible range is broader than Schneider’s currently described entries.
- Unverified: The iPhone-only tap setup, setup before power, supported devices and software versions, and compatibility details for the reported products.
- Not established in the reviewed reports: Schneider pricing, release timing, and purchase channels.
Before buying any future accessory, check its actual retail listing and manufacturer specifications for setup method, required iPhone and iOS versions, power requirements during setup, Apple Home support, and Matter compatibility across ecosystems. None of those details should be inferred from the reported “second-party” label alone.
