To switch a 24/7 YouTube stream from Restream to Gyre, prepare and upload your prerecorded videos to Gyre, connect the intended YouTube channel, start and verify Gyre’s new broadcast, then stop Restream’s output. Treat this as a controlled cutover—not a transfer of the active stream: the documented workflows do not promise a seamless handoff or preservation of an existing event.
Restream and Gyre work differently
Restream’s documented encoder workflow takes a feed from streaming software and routes it to enabled destinations. Its YouTube integration can also connect to an existing YouTube event. Gyre’s documented continuous-stream workflow instead uses prerecorded files uploaded to Gyre, arranged into a playlist, and broadcast after connecting a YouTube channel. Switch the stream in a controlled sequence
1. Record the current YouTube setup
Note the exact channel, the current event or stream arrangement, title, description, visibility, and any viewer-facing schedule. Keep the stream key out of screenshots and shared notes. 2. Prepare and upload the videos in Gyre
Gyre’s help documentation says prerecorded source files must be uploaded to Gyre storage. Arrange the files in the intended playlist order, then check that the content and output are suitable for the YouTube broadcast. Keep a separate copy of your source files if you need an independent archive; uploading to Gyre is not the same as creating a YouTube VOD.

3. Connect the correct channel and configure the broadcast
Authorize the YouTube channel you intend to use in Gyre, then set up the broadcast and playlist. Gyre’s product page describes connecting the account, scheduling a 24/7 stream, and starting it. Its API update describes broadcast creation and transfer of title, description, tags, and thumbnail parameters. Because vendor interfaces and API behavior can change, open YouTube Studio and confirm the connected channel, event, metadata, and privacy settings rather than assuming they are correct.
4. Check the output before changing services
Open the new broadcast in YouTube and confirm the target channel, title, description, thumbnail, visibility, playback, and playlist behavior. Make sure the video is playing as intended. Do not stop Restream until the Gyre broadcast is visible and verified. The two setup paths are separate, and a no-interruption handoff is not promised by the documentation.

5. Stop the Restream output
Once Gyre is confirmed as the intended live feed, disable the relevant Restream destination or disconnect it from the existing YouTube event as appropriate. Restream documents both destination controls and the existing-event workflow. Check which service is currently feeding the event before stopping anything, so you do not end the wrong broadcast. 6. Plan for the archive separately
Restream’s YouTube guide says YouTube has no stream-duration limit but archives only streams under 12 hours. For a 24/7 broadcast, do not count on the whole continuous stream being available as one ordinary archived video. If you need full-length recordings or separate VODs, plan those independently and verify YouTube’s current archive behavior before relying on it.

Check video settings before going live
Use settings appropriate to your source and intended output. Restream’s current YouTube guide recommends H.264, 240p–2160p resolution, 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate, up to 60 FPS, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval (maximum 4 seconds). Gyre’s preparation article gives narrower HD/full-HD encoding guidance. These are service recommendations, not guarantees that every source file or connection will produce the same result. Common cutover problems and what to check
- The wrong channel or event appears: stop before ending the old broadcast. Recheck the authorized YouTube account in Gyre and confirm the resulting event in YouTube Studio.
- The new broadcast is not playing: confirm that the files finished uploading, the playlist is ordered as intended, and the selected event is the one you are viewing.
- Restream stops but Gyre is not visible: verify the new broadcast in YouTube first. The documented workflows do not promise an automatic transfer from one service to the other.
- Stream key may have been exposed: treat it as a credential and reset it in YouTube Studio. Do not paste it into public notes, screenshots, or messages.
- You need a complete 24/7 archive: do not assume YouTube will preserve the continuous stream as one ordinary video; arrange separate recordings or VODs.
