You can move a 24/7 aarti stream off a local PC by running its encoder on a virtual private server (VPS) instead. The VPS becomes the remote computer that sends the stream to the platform; it does not remove the need for an encoder or guarantee uninterrupted service. Choose OBS on the VPS if your production depends on scenes and sources, or consider FFmpeg if it is simply prerecorded media playing continuously. The right migration depends on what your stream actually contains.
Choose the workflow that matches your aarti stream
First establish what produces the output. A devotional stream may be a prerecorded recording, a live camera and audio feed, or a mix of media, overlays, and other sources in OBS. Do not assume that moving the stream means moving the same setup unchanged: the VPS has its own operating system, hardware, network connection, and access to devices.

OBS describes its stream as going directly from the computer running OBS to the destination service (OBS Project Help). A VPS relocates that encoder computer and its outbound connection; it is not a separate streaming protocol.
When OBS is the better fit
Choose OBS if the finished picture depends on a scene layout, text overlays, multiple media sources, transitions, or a graphical workflow you need to preserve. Plan to recreate or transfer the scene collection and its media assets on the VPS, then check each source there. A camera, microphone, capture card, or other peripheral connected to your home PC does not automatically become available to a remote VPS.

When FFmpeg may be enough
If the stream is only a prerecorded aarti recording or a playlist, a headless FFmpeg process may be simpler than running a full OBS interface. Validate the media and loop behavior on the chosen VPS before relying on it. A third-party walkthrough discusses OBS- and FFmpeg-based VPS approaches, but its instructions are not a guarantee that a particular command or configuration will work with your files: VPS 24/7 livestream setup guide.
Inventory the current PC setup
Write down what the local encoder currently does before changing it. This checklist prevents overlooked sources or output settings from becoming a surprise during cutover:

- Source: prerecorded recording, playlist, live camera/audio, or a mixed production.
- Assets and sources: media files, overlays, scene collection, audio routing, and any external inputs.
- Output: resolution, frame rate, bitrate, encoder settings, and audio configuration.
- Platform connection: destination platform, ingest protocol, server URL, and the stream or event selected for output.
- Continuity: any scheduled restarts, process recovery, monitoring, or archive requirements.
The title alone does not establish which of these applies to your stream. Record the actual working configuration rather than assuming a standard bitrate, resolution, protocol, or platform.
Choose a VPS for the sustained workload
Compare VPS plans against the encoder and the amount of media you need to keep on the server. A plan that can host a process is not necessarily suitable for continuous video encoding and outbound streaming. No single provider, price, or uptime figure is established here, so check the provider’s current plan details and test the actual output.

- Outbound capacity and stability: confirm the plan and network can sustain your chosen output bitrate, including any transfer allowance and limits on continuous outbound traffic.
- Compute and encoding: match CPU or GPU capability to the encoder settings you intend to use. Do not assume hardware encoding is available just because the VPS can run the software.
- Storage: allow room for the recordings and assets the stream needs, plus any operational headroom.
- Location: consider the server region in relation to your audience and the platform ingest destination, then verify the resulting connection in a test.
- Administration and recovery: decide how you will access the server, monitor the encoder, and restart it if the process or host fails. A VPS alone does not provide a recovery plan.
- Total cost: include the server, storage, outbound transfer, any required remote-access setup, and your time maintaining the system.
Prepare and configure the VPS
- Provision the server and secure remote access. Choose an operating system and server resources compatible with the encoder workflow you selected. Set up a reliable way to administer the VPS without exposing credentials or the stream key.
- Install the encoder. Install OBS for a scene-based setup or FFmpeg for a media-loop workflow. Transfer only the media and scene assets required for the stream.
- Rebuild or validate the production. In OBS, open the project on the VPS and check that every source resolves and the scene looks and sounds right. With FFmpeg, test the file format, audio, video, and looping behavior on the target system.
- Set the output deliberately. Reproduce the needed resolution, frame rate, bitrate, encoder, and audio settings from your existing setup unless you have a reason to change them. There is no universal bitrate in the available platform guidance; it must be sustainable on the server’s connection.
- Get the platform ingest details. In the platform’s live control room, select the intended stream or event and obtain its ingest URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder instructions say to enter the live server URL and stream key in the encoder, then start the encoder and check the live output: YouTube encoder instructions.
- Protect the key. Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, put it in public scripts or logs, or leave it accessible to people who should not control the stream. Confirm the selected event and key before sending output.
Keep the ingest protocol unless you have a reason to change it
A move to a VPS does not require switching from your current ingest protocol. If you deliberately choose YouTube HLS ingestion, follow YouTube’s HLS-specific encoder requirements rather than treating them as generic VPS settings. YouTube says HLS has higher latency because video is transmitted in segments. Its guidance specifies TS segments, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and segment durations from 1 to 4 seconds; it also lists supported video and audio formats. Check the current requirements and encoder compatibility in YouTube’s HLS ingestion instructions.

- Run a controlled test from the VPS. Start the remote encoder and check both its status and the platform’s preview or playback. Confirm the picture, aarti audio, overlays, and any expected loop behavior.
- Watch for dropped frames or connection warnings. OBS says dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection to the ingest server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Its connection troubleshooting guidance suggests trying another server or lowering the bitrate: OBS dropped-frames troubleshooting.
- Adjust and retest if necessary. If the connection cannot sustain the configured bitrate, reduce it or try another appropriate ingest server, then verify the output again. A successful brief test does not establish long-term reliability.
- Cut over only after checking the destination. Once the VPS output is visible and correct, stop the local encoder so it does not continue sending a competing feed. Keep the PC configuration available as a rollback until the remote stream is confirmed.
- Monitor after the change. Check the VPS process and the platform output. Plan how you will notice and respond to a stopped process, host or network interruption, or a platform disconnect; the VPS by itself does not ensure recovery.
Plan for interruptions and YouTube archives
A VPS can keep the encoder off your home PC, but it does not by itself guarantee recovery if the encoder process, server, network, or platform connection fails. Decide how you will detect an interruption, restart the encoder, and verify that output has returned. The recovery mechanism depends on the operating system, encoder, VPS provider, and your monitoring setup; confirm each part rather than assuming a process will restart itself.

If the destination is YouTube, its cited encoder help page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single uninterrupted 24/7 session will be archived in full. Check YouTube’s current behavior and plan separately if you need a complete long-form recording: YouTube encoder instructions.
