What a Puppeteer price snapshot can—and cannot—tell you
Puppeteer automates a browser: it can navigate to a page, inspect rendered elements, and save a screenshot. That makes it useful when a product price appears only after JavaScript runs. It does not turn a screenshot into a guaranteed checkout quote. The displayed amount can depend on product variant, seller, delivery location, account state, discounts, and stock; taxes, delivery fees, or other charges may change the payable total.

For a useful history, save the extracted price text alongside the product URL or stable product identity, capture timestamp, and screenshot path. Also record relevant context—such as the selected variant or delivery region—when it affects what the page displays. This is your own tracking record; Puppeteer does not provide a price-history database.
Check permissions before automating a retailer
Review the current terms and permissions that apply to the specific retailer and your intended use before collecting pages or reusing screenshots. The available evidence does not establish that automated consumer price collection is permitted on every Indian shopping site, and this guide does not cover bypassing access controls or bot checks.

Flipkart’s documented APIs are Marketplace Seller APIs for seller applications. Its documentation describes listing attributes such as selling price, MRP, and shipping fees, and says production information is governed by Flipkart Marketplace terms of usage. Install Puppeteer and prepare a product configuration
The example below uses Node.js and Puppeteer’s documented page navigation, locator, and screenshot APIs. The URL and CSS selector must be supplied for a page you are permitted to access. Selectors are retailer- and page-specific; there is no universal Indian shopping-site price selector. Puppeteer’s documentation showed version 25.12.0 when accessed. Check the official Puppeteer documentation for current installation and API details.

Set the product URL and price selector in the script below. Inspect a page you are authorized to use to identify the element that contains the shopper-visible price. Recheck the selector if the retailer changes its page.

Puppeteer’s locator API is the recommended way in its current interaction guide to select elements because it waits for the element to be present and ready; waitForSelector is a lower-level alternative. Choose a readiness condition and screenshot scope
Wait for the price, not an arbitrary pause
A fixed sleep can be too short on a slow page and wasteful on a fast one. Waiting for the actual price element is more directly tied to the data you need. If the element exists before its final value is populated, wait for a site-specific condition that reflects a meaningful value, or validate the extracted text and fail the capture when it is empty or unexpected. Do not assume that general network quiet means every product detail is ready.
Capture the whole page or just the evidence
page.screenshot({ path, fullPage: true }) saves a full-page image, which can preserve surrounding product context. For a compact record, wait for the target element and use element.screenshot({ path }); Puppeteer scrolls an element into view when needed. Screenshot options also include clip for capturing a defined region. Run captures on a schedule without losing comparison context
Run the script from a scheduler or a persistent job runner at a reasonable interval consistent with the retailer’s rules. Keep each snapshot rather than overwriting one file, and store structured observations in a database or append-only file if you need queries, alerts, or charts. A timestamp should be recorded in a consistent format such as ISO 8601; the example uses UTC from toISOString().

Record the displayed text as captured instead of silently converting unfamiliar currency or discount formats into a number. Normalize later only when the format is understood.

Keep the screenshot and structured record associated by filename or another stable key. Protect stored screenshots and cookies or account data if you choose to use any.

When a built-in price history may be simpler
For Amazon-only shopping, Amazon reported in an article published May 1, 2026 and updated June 24, 2026 that price history was available to customers in India, with 30-, 90-, and 365-day views; it said 365-day insights were rolling out at that time. Amazon also reported that more than 50 million customers had used the feature. That usage figure is Amazon’s own report, not an independent measurement. The feature can avoid maintaining a browser job for Amazon, but the cited information does not establish cross-marketplace coverage. See Amazon India’s price-history update.

Troubleshooting failed or misleading captures
The navigation returns a 4xx or 5xx status
The URL may be wrong, the product may be unavailable, or the server may have returned an error page. The example stops before recording a price when the main response status is 400 or higher. Verify the URL and inspect the page and response; do not save an error-page screenshot as a product-price observation.
The selector times out
The selector may not match the current page, the page may not have rendered the relevant section, or a consent, location, or other dialog may be blocking the content. Check the selector against the page structure you are permitted to inspect, and handle expected dialogs through the site’s ordinary user flow. Do not treat timeout as a zero price or silently keep an old value.
The element appears but the value is blank or unexpected
The element may be a shell populated later, or the displayed value may be unavailable for the selected variant or location. Add a page-specific readiness check and validate the text before saving. Preserve the raw text so formatting or discount changes are visible during later review.

Capture after the price condition is satisfied, and save the text and image in the same run with one timestamp and product key. If client-side content can change again before the screenshot, re-read the price immediately before capture or add a condition that confirms the page state has stabilized.
The job hangs or browser cleanup fails
Set finite navigation and selector timeouts, as in the example, and ensure browser closure runs in a finally block. Investigate slow pages, blocked resources, or infrastructure limits instead of removing timeouts or retrying aggressively.
