Yes. You can present a finished recording as a live event on multiple platforms at once—often called multistreaming or simulcasting—by uploading it to a prerecorded-stream service, sending one live encoder output through a cloud relay, or sending separate outputs from your computer. The right method depends on whether you need scheduled playback, already use an encoder, and can support the upload bandwidth and device load.
Choose how the video will reach each platform
The three routes differ mainly in where the video is played and how it is distributed. A prerecorded cloud service plays an uploaded file; a relay distributes one live encoder feed; local multistreaming sends an output to each destination from your setup.

| Route | How it works | Useful when | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prerecorded cloud service | Upload a finished file, select destinations and a start time, and let the service play it as a live broadcast. | Scheduled webinars, classes, launches, or other recorded content. | Destination support, scheduling, quality, duration, and other limits vary by service. The reviewed service guide says its cloud playback does not require a local computer to run during the event. |
| Cloud relay plus encoder | Send one live output from OBS or another encoder to a relay, which copies it to connected destinations. | You want to keep an encoder-based workflow while sending one upload from your location. | Your encoder and source connection must remain active during the event. Check the relay’s features and plan limits. |
| Direct local multi-output | Use an encoder or plugin to send a distinct stream to each platform. | You need more control over each destination and have enough upload capacity and computing resources. | Upload demand rises with each output; encoding multiple outputs can also increase device load. |
For prerecorded cloud options, compare destination count, channel eligibility, upload and scheduling support, quality and duration caps, chat handling, and current cost. For a relay or local setup, also check whether the service supports each destination and whether the encoder can deliver the settings each one accepts. Limits change, so confirm them with the provider and platforms before committing.

Before configuring anything, confirm that every destination account can go live and is in good standing. YouTube’s official cross-platform guidance says the channel must be verified and live streaming enabled; the reviewed guidance also describes active accounts in good standing as a prerequisite for destinations. Check each platform’s current official guidance rather than assuming eligibility on one service carries over to another.

A prerecorded video may be subject to disclosure rules even when it is presented through a live event. A guide updated September 25, 2026 reports that Facebook requires prerecorded content in a live broadcast to be identified in the title or description, and reports an eight-hour maximum. The Facebook source was not individually verified here, so check Facebook’s current rules before publishing and label the event clearly wherever required.
For YouTube, do not treat the live format as a workaround for copyright or reused-content rules. Use video and audio you own or are authorized to use, and review the platform’s current policies and channel eligibility requirements before scheduling. Each destination can impose its own terms on content and simulcasting.

Set up and test the multistream
- Choose destinations. Prioritize platforms where your intended audience already watches. Confirm each account’s live eligibility and any content-labeling requirements.
- Pick a distribution route. Upload the file to a prerecorded cloud service for scheduled playback, connect an encoder to a cloud relay, or configure separate local outputs.
- Create the event on each platform. Schedule or create the broadcast in each destination’s live tools. Depending on the route, connect the platform account or enter its RTMP server URL and stream key. Treat stream keys like passwords: anyone who obtains one may be able to broadcast to that channel. Keep them private and regenerate them if exposed.
- Match output settings to every destination. For a shared output, use settings accepted by the strictest destination. Do not rely on generic resolution or bitrate tables: platform limits can change, and the services may differ.
- Estimate upload capacity for direct outputs. YouTube recommends adding the target bitrates of separate streams and aiming for 1.5 to 2 times that combined rate for stability. Its example is 6 Mbps plus 4 Mbps of target bitrate, for an upload target of 15–20 Mbps. This is planning guidance, not a performance guarantee. A cloud relay can receive one creator-side stream and distribute it downstream; check its requirements separately.
- Run a realistic test. Use a private or test event where available. YouTube recommends testing with typical audio and video movement and monitoring stream health. Check playback and sound on every destination, not just the encoder preview.
- Plan for comments. Decide how someone will monitor and respond to viewers on each platform. A chat aggregator may be convenient, but Twitch’s simulcasting terms restrict combining other platform activity in the Twitch stream. Review Twitch’s current terms and configure chat accordingly.
- Make the event transparent. Identify prerecorded content in the title or description wherever a destination requires it, and do not imply that a recording is live camera footage.
Know the limits of example services
Provider limits are not universal. A guide updated September 25, 2026 describes its own prerecorded-live service as supporting up to six destinations plus custom RTMP, up to 1080p, and streams up to three hours. These are that service’s reported limits, not a standard for cloud playback generally.
