Choose how to keep the course playing
An encoder sends your video feed to YouTube Live. YouTube documents software and hardware encoder options and specifically lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streams of prerecorded video. That listing establishes that the workflow is relevant; it is not an endorsement or independent verification of a vendor’s performance, pricing, or service terms. Clear course rights before you stream
Having a copy of a lesson does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it live. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content on Google services, including applicable music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. Check the contracts and permissions for the actual course and intended use. Confirm that they cover public livestreaming and continuous rebroadcast, the relevant territories, and every included item that may have separate rights.
- Slides, illustrations, photographs, and excerpts from books or other courses.
- Music, including opening and closing tracks or background audio.
- Guest lectures, instructor appearances, and other recorded contributions.
- Third-party video, demonstrations, and other embedded media.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. It may replace a stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; continued matches can result in interruption or termination. Even if you have a license, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid a live-stream interruption. Prepare the channel and encoder
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Live streaming must be enabled on the channel. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours; account status or restrictions may affect access. Check that the channel can create a live stream before scheduling a launch. YouTube: get started with live streaming
- Choose and configure an encoder. For a local setup, select software or hardware that can play the course files or playlist unattended. For cloud playout, verify playlist, restart, monitoring, and support capabilities against your needs. Do not assume a listed product’s current capabilities or commercial terms from YouTube’s encoder listing alone.
- Create the live stream in YouTube Studio. Use the live-control workflow in YouTube Studio to create or select the broadcast and obtain the YouTube server URL and stream key. Interface labels can change, so follow the current live-control page for the channel.
- Enter the connection details in the encoder. Paste in the server URL and stream key exactly as shown in YouTube Studio. Treat the stream key like a password: share it only with trusted operators and replace it if it is exposed.
- Load the course playback plan. Set the intended lessons or playlist order and verify that playback continues at the end of the list. Preview the outgoing feed to catch wrong files, black frames, silent sections, or unintended gaps before the public launch.
- Run a full preflight. Confirm that the stream preview appears correctly in YouTube Studio and on the channel’s watch page; check picture and sound on a phone as well as your operating display. Test the restart or backup-encoder procedure and decide who will monitor the broadcast. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality and testing encoder failover. Plan for network capacity and recovery
A local encoder depends on a working upload connection for the entire time it is sending video. YouTube recommends keeping upload capacity above the stream’s total bitrate by a 20% margin. If primary and backup encoders both send data, account for both streams plus that margin. A connectivity disruption can break a live stream, so test the actual connection and failover procedure rather than relying on a speed-test result alone. YouTube’s live streaming recommendations

- Decide who receives and acts on alerts, and how they will check the live preview.
- Test a restart or backup encoder before the public broadcast, not during the first incident.
- Keep an approved source archive independently of the live broadcast.
- Make a retention plan for the YouTube broadcast rather than assuming a 24-hour run will be stored as one archive.
Understand the archive limit for long broadcasts
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A planned 24/7 stream is longer than that documented duration, so do not count on the entire continuous run being available as one automatic archive. Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that live streaming is enabled, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation, and review any channel restrictions or account-status notices in YouTube.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck the server URL and stream key against YouTube Studio. If the key may have been exposed or copied incorrectly, replace it in Studio and update the encoder.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check actual upload capacity against the total outgoing bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom; include both encoders if primary and backup are sending. Investigate the connection and test recovery rather than assuming a wired cable alone will solve the issue.
- Audio or video is missing or wrong: Inspect the encoder preview and YouTube watch page, then check the selected source files, playlist order, and audio path. Test again on a mobile device before relaunching.
- A copyright warning or placeholder appears: Identify the matched material, verify that the permission covers the intended live use, and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if you are licensed. A license does not guarantee uninterrupted live transmission without allowlisting.
- You cannot find the full day’s recording afterward: The cited YouTube automatic-archive guidance is for streams under 12 hours. Keep your source files and plan retention separately for a longer broadcast.
