First enable live streaming on your channel, then configure playback, the YouTube stream key, and stable video settings. Before broadcasting, confirm you have the rights and permissions needed for the footage, music, people, and property shown.
What you need for a continuous property walkthrough stream
YouTube Live receives a feed from an encoder: streaming software, a standalone hardware device, or a cloud service. The playback system must support the loop or playlist you want, and the encoder must be compatible with YouTube’s ingestion protocol. A product appearing on YouTube’s verified encoder list is not necessarily the only valid choice or a guarantee of indefinite looping; check its current playback, restart, monitoring, and unattended-run capabilities with the vendor. YouTube says its listed encoder products are not made by YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes its options, including products for continuous streams and prerecorded 24/7 video.

- Playback: A recording or playlist of walkthrough videos, with looping and restart behavior appropriate to your schedule.
- Encoder: Software on a computer, standalone hardware, or a cloud service that can deliver the playback feed to YouTube.
- YouTube access: A verified channel with live streaming enabled and no current restriction that prevents going live.
- Rights and permissions: Clearance for the video, audio, and any people or property content included.
Enable YouTube Live and create the stream
- Verify channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its getting-started guidance says streamers must be at least 16. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before planning a launch.
- Create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream, and locate the stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder guide explains how those details connect an encoder to the service.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Enter it only in the encoder or service you intend to use, and do not show it in a screen recording or public setup video.
- Choose the stream’s viewing details. Set the title, visibility, and schedule in YouTube Studio to match how you plan to present the walkthroughs. Confirm the resulting live page is the one you intend to share with viewers.
Choose a playback and encoder setup
Computer running streaming software
Software can play a local recording or playlist and encode it for YouTube, but the computer and its network connection need to remain available for the stream to continue. Before relying on it unattended, test the actual loop, playlist transitions, audio, and what happens after a software or computer restart. YouTube describes software encoders as one option; its documentation does not say that a hardware encoder is required for prerecorded property tours.
Standalone hardware encoder
A hardware encoder is a dedicated device that sends video to YouTube. YouTube lists the Blackmagic Web Presenter 4K among verified hardware encoders, but the cited documentation does not establish it as necessary or specially designed to loop recorded tours continuously. Confirm that any device you consider can accept the intended playback source and meet your unattended-operation requirements.

Cloud playback and encoding
A cloud service can play uploaded video and send the feed without requiring a computer at the property to stay on. YouTube’s encoder documentation includes a cloud tool described for 24/7 prerecorded streams. Check the service directly for loop behavior, YouTube compatibility, recovery, monitoring, and the run time you need; listings alone do not establish that a particular service will meet every workflow requirement.
Set video and network settings
For a straightforward 1080p walkthrough, begin with the encoder’s YouTube-compatible settings and adjust only after testing representative footage. YouTube recommends RTMPS and lists H.264, HEVC, and AV1 options depending on protocol and configuration. Its recommended H.264 video bitrates include 5 Mbps for 1080p30 and 6 Mbps for 1080p60. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee of image quality for every recording or network.

| Setting | Starting point | How to apply it |
|---|---|---|
| Ingestion protocol | RTMPS recommended by YouTube | Select the protocol supported by both the encoder and the YouTube stream configuration. |
| Video codec | H.264, HEVC, or AV1 depending on protocol and configuration | Choose a codec supported by your encoder and stream setup; the bitrate examples here are for H.264. |
| Video bitrate | H.264: 5 Mbps at 1080p30; 6 Mbps at 1080p60 | Use the matching recommendation as a starting point. YouTube’s settings can change, so check its current guidance when configuring a different resolution or codec. |
| Rate control | Constant bitrate (CBR) | Set CBR where available for a stable outgoing stream. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds | Set the encoder’s keyframe interval accordingly. |
| Upload capacity | Stream bitrate plus 20% headroom | Leave room for network variation and other traffic. If you use a backup feed, account for its upload use as well. |
These settings come from YouTube’s live encoder settings and streaming tips. Use YouTube’s current settings page for configurations not covered by the examples above.

Clear the rights and permissions for the recording
Prerecorded footage is still content you are publishing live. YouTube’s livestream terms require that you have the necessary worldwide rights for exploitation of the live content, including music rights, and that you comply with applicable laws. Review the terms at YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
For a Canadian property walkthrough, obtain appropriate permission to record and publish the property and any identifiable people, and check the applicable provincial requirements for the actual location and circumstances. The YouTube terms do not resolve Canadian or provincial privacy, tenancy, real-estate, access, or consent questions for a particular recording. Do not assume that permission to enter or film a property automatically covers every later use of the footage.

Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | Live streaming is not enabled, activation is still processing, or the channel is ineligible or restricted. | Check channel verification, age and restriction requirements, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Incorrect stream URL or key, incompatible protocol, or encoder configuration error. | Recheck the URL and key in YouTube Studio, confirm RTMPS compatibility, and enter the current key in the intended encoder. |
| Stream health is poor or playback stutters | Insufficient or inconsistent upload capacity, competing network traffic, or settings that exceed the available connection. | Check actual upload capacity, leave the recommended 20% headroom, and test again at the selected resolution and bitrate. |
| The stream stops when a video ends or software closes | The playback or encoder setup may not loop or restart automatically. | Test playlist looping and restart behavior; use a setup whose unattended operation is confirmed for your intended run time. |
| Picture or sound is wrong in the preview | Encoding settings, source playback, or audio routing may differ from the intended output. | Test the actual recording and representative audio, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before sharing the stream. |
| Copyright or privacy concerns arise | The recording may include uncleared music, people, or property content. | Review rights for all content and obtain appropriate permissions; check the applicable provincial rules for the specific recording. |
