Before going live, confirm your channel is eligible, clear rights to every recording and embedded asset, test the feed, and keep a separate copy of your lessons: a 24/7 stream is not a reliable archive.
What a 24/7 YouTube stream does—and does not do
A continuous live stream sends one ongoing video feed to YouTube Live. It can make recorded lessons available through a live watch page, but it is not the same as uploading each class as a regular YouTube video or publishing a playlist. Viewers see the stream as live, and depending on the settings, may be able to pause or rewind with DVR.

The encoder is the part that supplies the video and audio. For prerecorded classes, it needs to play the files in the order you choose and keep sending that output to YouTube. YouTube identifies both local software encoders and cloud tools for this purpose.

Check eligibility and rights before setup
Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its general live-stream guidance sets a minimum age of 16. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours, so check the channel and enable the feature before your planned launch. YouTube’s stated rule is: “All content in live streams must adhere to our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.”

Clear every part of every class
Having a copy of a lesson does not by itself establish the right to stream it. Check permissions for the instructor’s recording, slides, diagrams, music, footage, and any third-party educational material included in the video. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If it detects material, it may replace the feed with a placeholder and warn you to stop using it; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even licensed material can cause interruptions unless the rights owner has added the channel to its Content ID allowlist.
YouTube’s livestream terms require the content provider to have the necessary rights to use the live content on Google services worldwide, including music rights, and to follow applicable laws and regulations. If you cannot confirm a right, remove or replace that material before streaming.

Choose how the lessons will run
Local encoder on a computer
A local encoder plays the lessons and sends them from your computer to YouTube. YouTube lists OBS, free open-source software, as an encoder option. This approach gives you direct control over playback and the output, but the computer, encoder, power, and internet connection must remain operational. Configure the selected software’s current playlist or looping workflow rather than assuming every encoder handles repeat playback the same way.

Plan the sequence
Arrange recordings in the intended teaching order: for example, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, then organic chemistry, or a focused revision sequence for a particular exam topic. Decide whether the sequence repeats continuously and whether you want breaks between classes. Use the encoder’s documented playback controls to implement that plan; the YouTube documentation does not establish a universal playlist-loop control.
Create the YouTube Live stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one for a specific start time. A scheduled event can appear to subscribers as upcoming, and viewers can opt into a notification.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream setup, copy the stream URL and stream key. The encoder uses the URL as the server address and the key as the credential that identifies the feed YouTube should accept.
- Enter the details in the encoder. In the encoder’s streaming settings, paste the URL into its server or URL field and the key into its stream-key field. Labels vary by software, so use that encoder’s current instructions.
- Load and arrange the recordings. Add the cleared class videos in the sequence you planned and configure repeat playback using the encoder’s documented controls. Check that the selected audio and video tracks are the ones you intend to send.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder output and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the picture, audio, lesson order, and stream title are correct before starting or announcing the broadcast.
Treat the stream key like a password. YouTube says a custom key can be reused; if the key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement.

Test, monitor, and protect the archive
Run a complete test
Test the entire path before sharing the stream: encoder playback, YouTube preview, and the public or scheduled watch page. Check playback on a phone as well as the device you used for setup. Listen for clean, continuous audio and look for freezes, missing video, or the wrong lesson. YouTube’s encoder tips recommend preparing in advance, checking the preview, testing failover, confirming local archive files are growing, and monitoring audio and video quality.
Choose stream controls deliberately
Review the current Live Control Room settings for DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop. DVR controls whether viewers can pause or rewind during a live stream. Auto-start and auto-stop affect how the encoder and YouTube handle the beginning and end of a broadcast; use them only if they fit your launch and shutdown plan.

Keep an independent copy
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be your only copy of the classes. Keep the original lesson files and, if you need a stream recording, use a separate local recording or storage arrangement. YouTube recommends a local archive backup; an external drive is one optional way to store source files or a backup, not a requirement for streaming.

Troubleshooting common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification, any live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and whether first-time activation is still pending. YouTube says enabling live streaming may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current key. If you reset a compromised key, update the encoder too.
- The preview is blank or has no sound: Confirm the correct videos and audio tracks are loaded and that the encoder is sending output. Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the event.
- The stream stops or is interrupted: Check the encoder, computer or cloud service, and network connection. Review YouTube’s copyright notices as well; detected third-party material can lead to interruption or termination.
- The classes do not repeat as expected: Verify the playlist order and the encoder’s current loop or repeat settings. Loop behavior is encoder-specific, not a universal YouTube setting.
- You cannot find a complete YouTube archive: Check the broadcast length. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured, so retrieve or preserve recordings independently rather than relying on the live archive.
