You can broadcast recorded IIT lectures around the clock by sending an authorized playlist or playback feed through an encoder or cloud streaming service to YouTube Live. First confirm rebroadcast rights, then connect the source to a YouTube stream key in Live Control Room and arrange monitoring and outage recovery. An uploaded recording alone does not create a continuous live stream.
1. Confirm permission before scheduling a lecture
Identify who controls the rights to each recording and obtain permission for continuous rebroadcast on YouTube, including the intended territories. Check that permission also covers material embedded in the lecture, such as slides, music, images, and third-party video clips. Public availability or educational purpose does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast.

YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to hold the necessary rights for use of the live content on Google services worldwide: YouTube Terms of Service. The specific IIT and recordings are not identified here, so permissions must be confirmed with the relevant rights holder.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match may replace the stream with a placeholder, prompt a warning, or interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if a rights holder has licensed the material, the channel may need to be added to that owner’s Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on live Content ID claims.

2. Choose how to feed the recordings to YouTube
You need a source that can play the authorized recording or playlist continuously, plus an encoder or service that sends the feed to YouTube Live. YouTube defines an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a digital format for streaming: YouTube encoder setup guide.

Compare the whole operating setup
Before choosing, compare the total cost—including computer and power costs where relevant—and who will monitor the feed and restore it after an outage. Confirm continuous playback and restart support, storage and archive handling, available upload bandwidth and redundancy, and the provider’s process for rights claims and Content ID allowlisting. Verify current service details directly with each supplier.

3. Prepare the YouTube Live event and connect the encoder
- Enable live streaming in advance. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restriction. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this until the intended broadcast time. See the YouTube live-streaming activation instructions.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule an event. Scheduling gives you a watch-page URL to share and can show the event as upcoming to subscribers. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide for the current setup flow.
- Copy the ingest details. Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into the encoder’s server and key fields. Treat the key like a password; reset it if it is exposed.
- Use RTMPS if supported. RTMPS is RTMP over TLS/SSL. Obtain the RTMPS URL through Live Control Room and select it in the encoder if that option is available. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, and check that both picture and audio are correct. Then use the go-live action in Live Control Room. Confirm that the public watch page is accessible before sharing it widely.
4. Keep the stream available and plan around YouTube’s limits
Monitor the feed and leave network headroom
YouTube recommends at least 20% spare upload bandwidth beyond what the stream requires and advises continuously monitoring audio and video quality. Check the public watch page, not only the encoder’s local status. Assign someone to respond to a stopped or degraded feed, and keep source recordings or a local archive where practical. YouTube’s streaming tips also advise checking event accessibility and archive-file integrity.

Do not rely on one long event as a complete archive
YouTube automatically archives streams that run under 12 hours when they end; it does not promise automatic archiving for longer streams. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable when a stream exceeds 12 hours. Plan event rotation, archive handling, and the viewing experience accordingly. See YouTube’s live-stream DVR guidance.
Make a recovery plan
- Decide who responds to network outages, encoder failure, source-file problems, and copyright interruptions.
- Set a practical target for how quickly a stopped feed should be restored, and keep access to the stream settings and source files with the responsible operator.
- Check the live output periodically and after any restart; a process that appears active on the encoder may still have a problem on the public watch page.
5. Understand monetization separately from copyright permission
Permission to rebroadcast does not guarantee that a channel will qualify for YouTube Partner Program monetization. YouTube’s reused-content policy is a separate channel-level review: republishing another source with little change may not qualify even when permission exists. A channel seeking monetization should make its original contribution and educational value clear rather than relying on repetitive or mass-produced programming.
