To keep recorded customer event highlights live on YouTube continuously, create an eligible YouTube broadcast and send it a looping feed from an encoder. You can run the encoder on a computer or supported hardware, or use a hosted playlist service. Before publishing, clear the footage and audio for this use, protect the stream key, and plan separately for archiving: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not promise a complete archive for a longer continuous feed.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours, so set it up in advance. YouTube’s eligibility guidance and encoder guide explain the requirements.
- Recorded event highlights and a playback method that can deliver them repeatedly to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports software or hardware encoders; it does not itself provide the looping playlist.
- Permission to publish the specific recordings, including identifiable customer footage, music, graphics, and other third-party material. Platform eligibility is not a substitute for your organization’s rights and privacy review.
- A plan for monitoring the output and preserving a complete copy if you need one.

Set up the continuous YouTube Live feed
- Enable live streaming and confirm eligibility. In YouTube Studio, verify that the channel can create a live stream and has no current restriction that blocks streaming. If this is the first time enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours before the event.
- Prepare the program. Choose which highlights will play and in what order, and decide whether the sequence should repeat. Test the complete playlist, including its transitions and audio, before connecting it to the live broadcast.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, start the live-stream setup and select an encoder-based stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the encoder or hosted service. The key authorizes a connection to your channel’s live ingest, so keep it private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed.
- Configure the encoder or playlist service. Select the prepared highlight files and configure repeat playback if the tool supports it. YouTube’s documentation establishes how an encoder feed reaches YouTube, not that every encoder or playlist tool can loop video. Confirm the chosen tool’s playback behavior and test it before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
- Check rights and Content ID status. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If you have a license for material that Content ID may identify, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before streaming. Review customer releases, contractual permissions, privacy obligations, and applicable local law for the recordings you plan to show. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
- Start the feed and verify playback. Confirm the broadcast is receiving the encoder signal, then check that the intended highlight is visible and that audio is playing. Keep an operator responsible for checking the output and responding to interruptions; the encoder mechanism alone does not guarantee uninterrupted delivery.
- Plan archives separately. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise a complete archive for a longer continuous stream, so retain the original files and arrange separate recordings or broadcasts if a full replay matters.
When a highlight needs its own watch page
A 24/7 feed and a separate event broadcast are distinct broadcasts, even when they use the same incoming stream. Google’s YouTube API guide describes binding an additional broadcast to a stream already used for a continuous feed, then completing the separate broadcast without stopping the feed. This is an advanced option for teams that can implement and manage the API workflow; it is not required for a basic looping channel.

Common problems and what to check
- You cannot start a live stream: Confirm channel verification and live-streaming eligibility, including whether restrictions were applied in the previous 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder: Recheck that the encoder has the correct YouTube stream URL and current stream key, and that the broadcast is in its live-stream setup. Do not share the key; replace it if it has been exposed.
- The playlist stops or repeats incorrectly: Check the playback tool’s loop setting and whether it supports continuous playback of your files. YouTube provides the live ingest, not a universal playlist loop.
- The live stream is interrupted over a rights match: Identify the flagged material, confirm the required permissions, and for licensed content ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel through Content ID.
- The replay is incomplete or missing: Do not assume a feed lasting 12 hours or longer will be archived in full. Keep source recordings and use separate recordings or broadcasts when you need a complete replay.
