To stream several podcast episodes as one continuous YouTube broadcast, create or schedule a live event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder or production system to send YouTube one continuous program feed with the episodes arranged in order. YouTube receives that feed; its Live Control Room guidance does not describe an automatic podcast-episode playlist or handoff feature. Build and rehearse the sequence in your chosen production setup before you rely on it for a long broadcast.
What you need for a continuous podcast stream
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming: YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before planning the event.
- An encoder or production system that can play the episode files in the intended order and send them as one program feed. Confirm unattended playback, episode handoffs, and runtime limits with that tool’s current documentation; YouTube’s encoder instructions do not establish those capabilities.
- The event’s YouTube stream URL and stream key, plus an upload connection with enough capacity for the outgoing feed.
- Optional audio equipment, such as a microphone or mixer, if you are adding live hosting or other audio. YouTube describes connecting such equipment through the encoder; the episode files themselves do not require a new microphone.
Prepare the episode sequence
Arrange the episodes in the production system that will actually send the broadcast. Add transitions, station IDs, interstitials, or breaks there if you want them between episodes. This is an encoder-workflow implementation, not a built-in YouTube playlist feature.
- Load the episode files into the encoder or production system and set their order.
- Decide what should happen at the end of each file: continue directly to the next episode, play an interstitial, or insert a planned break.
- Run a private or unlisted rehearsal long enough to test at least one episode handoff. Check that audio remains audible, playback advances as intended, and the encoder does not stop when a file ends.
- Confirm that the chosen tool can stay running for the full planned duration and determine whether it can record a local copy or recover after an interruption.
Do not assume every encoder supports automatic sequencing, unattended playback, or indefinite operation. Verify those features and any runtime constraints with its vendor.
Create or schedule the YouTube live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open the Live Control Room.
- Create a stream or schedule one for a future time. Scheduling can surface an upcoming event and allow viewers to request a notification.
- Set the title, description, visibility, and other event details. If you reuse a previous stream’s settings, review them carefully: YouTube says reused settings can carry over metadata, settings, and the stream key.
- Check the stream options that matter to this show, including DVR, latency, and any end-of-stream redirect. Their trade-offs are covered below.
Connect the encoder to YouTube
- In the Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key for the event.
- Paste those credentials into the corresponding fields in your encoder. A stream key is a credential that lets YouTube accept the feed; keep it private and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Choose a supported ingest protocol and encoding configuration in both YouTube and the encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion.
- If using microphones, a mixer, or other hardware, connect and configure it through the encoder, then check the levels in the preview.
- Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview and stream-health information before starting the public event.
Use YouTube’s current encoder-settings table for your selected resolution and frame rate rather than copying a generic bitrate. The required bitrate depends on the chosen output settings and the available upload capacity.

Rehearse, start, and monitor the broadcast
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that lead time to catch connection, sound, or sequencing problems while there is still time to fix them.
- Start the encoder early enough for YouTube to receive the feed and show its preview.
- Check the preview, stream-health messages, audio, and episode sequence. Test with sound and motion representative of the real program.
- Open the watch page on a phone as well as your production screen to confirm the audience-facing playback.
- If recording locally, confirm that the file is being created and growing before the show begins.
- Monitor stream health and the encoder during the broadcast. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload headroom: total stream bitrate should fit within the connection’s available upload capacity, with additional capacity for shared network use. If you send primary and backup feeds, budget for both feeds plus that headroom.
If using a backup encoder, YouTube recommends testing failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable and checking whether playback rolls over. Test this before the real broadcast, not during it.

Choose YouTube settings for a podcast audience
DVR
With DVR enabled, viewers can pause and rewind during the live stream, then resume from where they paused. That can help listeners who join late or need to step away.
Latency
Latency is the delay between the incoming feed and what viewers hear and see. YouTube notes that lower latency may increase playback buffering. For a mostly prerecorded episode sequence without live audience interaction, steady playback may matter more than minimizing delay.

Live Redirect
YouTube can redirect viewers at the end of a stream to a Premiere or another live stream. YouTube states that the channel sending the redirect must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes; redirecting to another channel requires that channel’s permission. Check the current eligibility and controls in Studio before relying on this option.
Horizontal and vertical formats
YouTube documents an option in Live Control Room for simultaneous horizontal and vertical live formats. The vertical feed may use a crop or a configured layout, and YouTube lists feature differences between formats, including discovery, clickable links, and ad behavior. Treat this as optional: check framing and overlays on both layouts before enabling it for a podcast.

Monetization
YouTube lists ads and Super Chat, with memberships available to some channels. Access depends on channel eligibility and settings, so do not assume a particular stream will be monetized or generate revenue.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.End the stream and preserve the episodes
Stop sending content from the encoder to end the event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not establish that a longer continuous program will be fully archived, so keep a separate local recording if you need a complete copy and confirm current YouTube behavior before scheduling a longer show.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | The stream URL or key may be incorrect, or the protocol and encoder settings may not match. | Copy the event’s current URL and key from Live Control Room, check the encoder fields, and use a supported protocol and configuration. Reset the key if it may have been exposed. |
| The preview appears, but the event does not start as expected | The encoder feed may be running while the event still needs to be started in the Live Control Room. | Check the preview and stream health, then follow the controls for the scheduled event in Studio. |
| The stream stops or buffers | The connection may lack upload capacity or headroom, or the network may be shared. | Check total bitrate against available upload capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and account for both feeds if using a backup stream. |
| Playback ends after an episode | The production system may not be configured to advance to the next file, or may stop when a file ends. | Check episode ordering, end-of-file behavior, unattended playback support, and runtime limits in the encoder’s documentation; test a handoff in rehearsal. |
| Viewers report difficulty joining late or pausing | DVR may be disabled. | Review the DVR setting in Live Control Room if pause and rewind are useful for this audience. |
| The YouTube archive is incomplete or absent | The program may exceed the documented automatic-archive duration, or the expected local recording may not have been started. | YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours. For longer shows, use a local recording and verify platform behavior before broadcast. |
