For the most dependable handoff, combine the worship clips into one continuous video file before the service, then play that file through the system feeding your stream. This removes separate-file transitions from the live playback path, though it does not guarantee gapless audio: check the finished file at every join on the actual service system.
Why one prepared file helps
With separate videos, the player must finish one file and start another. Combining the clips ahead of time avoids that inter-file handoff during the service. The result still depends on the source files, the joining method and the playback chain, so preview it rather than assuming the joins are silent-free.
FFmpeg offers two relevant approaches. Its concat demuxer can sequence compatible files without re-encoding; when the files differ and need conversion, FFmpeg’s FAQ points to the concat filter workflow. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation and its video concatenation FAQ explain the conditions and trade-offs.
Prepare and inspect the worship clips
- Set the order. Put the recordings in the intended worship sequence and confirm the order before joining them.
- Check the boundaries. Listen to the beginning and end of each clip for silence you do not want, abrupt cuts or other unwanted audio. Joining files cannot remove silence already inside a recording or at its edges.
- Check file compatibility. The concat demuxer requires the files to have the same streams, including codecs and time bases. Also check that their duration metadata is reliable. If the stream layouts or formats differ, use a filter-based workflow that re-encodes as needed instead of assuming the demuxer can join them cleanly.
- Make one output, then review it. Play the output from beginning to end, paying particular attention to each former clip boundary. Use the same playback system and audio route intended for the service.
Choose a joining method

Use a playlist only after testing it
If keeping the clips separate is important, OBS’s VLC Video source supports a playlist, but VLC must be installed. The documentation does not promise gapless audio between items. Test with the actual recordings and listen to every transition through the exact audio route that will be used live. See OBS’s Media Sources guide.
Church Presenter supports local files and network media, preview, display output and scheduling. Its guide recommends loading media before the service because VLC may briefly read a file header the first time a file opens. Verify the complete service playback path
- Play the final joined file using the computer, presentation or streaming software, and audio routing planned for the service.
- Listen across every former clip boundary, not just the opening and ending.
- Check both the program audio and the stream output if they follow different routes.
- Correct any remaining silence in the source edit or joining workflow, then preview the revised output again.
The best exact FFmpeg command depends on the operating system, file formats and stream routing. The workflow above is general; neither FFmpeg’s documentation nor the product guides establish how a particular church’s playback chain will behave.
