Sony’s Remote Play overview explains how the app streams games from a console to another device.
What you need to stream PlayStation games on a PC
- A PS4 or PS5 connected to the internet and running current system software.
- A compatible Windows PC or Mac with Sony’s PS Remote Play app installed.
- The same PlayStation account on the console and in the app.
- A supported controller: DualSense, DualSense Edge or DUALSHOCK 4. Sony’s PC and Mac setup guide specifies connecting the controller with a USB cable.
- A reliable network. Sony sets 5 Mbps upload and download as the baseline and recommends at least 15 Mbps for best performance. Those figures are guidance, not a promise of a particular stream quality.
Remote Play sends the console’s game and menus to the computer; it does not let the PC run PlayStation games by itself. A PlayStation console is still required.

Check whether your computer is compatible
Sony’s current PC and Mac Remote Play support page lists the following minimums. Requirements can change, so check that page if your operating system is newer or differs from the versions listed.

Set up PS Remote Play step by step
1. Enable Remote Play on your console
On PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play, then turn on Enable Remote Play.

On PS4, open Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings, then turn on Enable Remote Play. Sony’s setup instructions also direct PS4 users to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4.
2. Allow the console to wake over the network (optional)
If you want to connect while the console is in Rest Mode, enable the relevant network features first. On PS5, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and turn on Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network. On PS4, configure the available Rest Mode features under Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode.

3. Install the app and sign in
Download and install Sony’s PS Remote Play app for Windows or Mac from the PS Remote Play page. Open the app and sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the console. Sony says one app can connect to either PS5 or PS4.
4. Connect a controller
Sony lists DualSense, DualSense Edge and DUALSHOCK 4 for PC and Mac Remote Play, and its setup guide calls for a USB cable. Use a compatible cable and connect the controller to the computer. Sony also documents USB and Bluetooth support for DualSense on compatible computers, but feature availability depends on the device and connection; do not assume every controller function works in Remote Play. 5. Connect to the console
Make sure the console is on or configured for network wake, launch PS Remote Play on the computer, and select PS5 or PS4 as appropriate. If prompted, follow the app’s on-screen connection steps.
What internet speed does Remote Play need?
Sony gives 5 Mbps upload and download as the minimum baseline and recommends at least 15 Mbps in both directions for better performance. These are Sony’s connection guidelines, not guaranteed outcomes: actual quality also depends on the network environment and the stability of the connection. If the picture stutters or the session disconnects, check that both the console’s and computer’s internet connections are stable before changing other settings.

Games and features that may not work
Remote Play does not support every title. Sony identifies games that require PS VR or PS VR2, additional peripherals beyond the listed controllers, or PS Plus Premium game streaming as incompatible. This is distinct from Remote Play: the app streams a game running on your own console, while some titles are available through Sony’s separate PS Plus Premium streaming service.

Troubleshoot a failed connection
- The app cannot find the console: Confirm Remote Play is enabled, the console is online, and the app is signed in with the same PlayStation account as the console.
- The console is in Rest Mode: Check the console’s network wake and Rest Mode options described above. On PS4, also confirm it is activated as your primary PS4.
- The session is laggy or unstable: Check upload and download speeds against Sony’s 5 Mbps baseline and 15 Mbps recommendation, then assess the stability of the connection at both ends.
- A game will not start: It may be excluded because it requires a VR headset, an additional peripheral, or PS Plus Premium streaming.
- The controller does not respond: Check that you are using a listed controller and connect it by USB as Sony’s setup guide specifies. If using DualSense over Bluetooth, consult Sony’s device-specific compatibility guidance.
