Use FFmpeg on your server to combine the MP4 files in a concat-demuxer playlist, then send that continuous feed to YouTube Live using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. The playlist controls the order of the videos in the feed; YouTube’s event controls determine when viewers see the broadcast.
What you need
- A server with FFmpeg installed and access to the MP4 files.
- A YouTube Live stream configuration and its ingest server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- A network connection capable of sending the encoded stream continuously.
Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: anyone with it may be able to send content to your stream.

Prepare the files and playlist
Check the media first
For a smoother concat workflow, use files with matching resolution, frame rate, video codec and audio codec. These are practical compatibility recommendations from the FFmpeg playlist guide, not separate YouTube Live requirements. Mismatched files can cause transition or playback problems, so test the exact collection you plan to use.

Create the ordered list
Create a plain-text file such as playlist.txt. Add one file entry per MP4, in the order you want them to play. For example:

Connect FFmpeg to YouTube Live
Copy the ingest details from YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Create or select the stream configuration or scheduled event you intend to use.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the encoder setup. Do not paste the key into a public script repository, shared log, or article.
YouTube’s setup guidance is to enter the Live server URL and stream key into the encoder. The exact FFmpeg command depends on your installed FFmpeg version, source formats and desired output settings; verify command-line options against the documentation for that version before running it. The practical guide used for this workflow demonstrates the concat playlist with RTMP, but does not establish one command that fits every server.

Start the feed and confirm the preview
- Configure FFmpeg to read the concat-demuxer playlist and send its output to the YouTube ingest URL using your private stream key.
- Start FFmpeg and watch the Live Control Room for the incoming feed and preview.
- For a scheduled event, use YouTube’s event controls to click Go live after the preview appears.
- Watch the stream health and check that transitions between files behave as expected.
- When the broadcast is finished, stop sending content and end the event using the controls in YouTube Studio.
Starting FFmpeg sends an encoder feed; it does not by itself determine when a scheduled event is presented to viewers. Test the transitions before relying on a long broadcast.

The concat playlist sequences media inside one encoder feed. A scheduled YouTube event controls the viewer-facing broadcast, including its timing and start/end actions. YouTube’s API distinguishes ingest configurations (liveStream) from scheduled or live events (liveBroadcast); its recurring-event pattern can bind multiple broadcasts to one stream configuration, but only one event is live at a time. One playlist is therefore not a calendar of separate scheduled events.

If you need separate watch pages, promotion or independent start/end control, plan separate YouTube events. If you want one continuous show, the playlist can provide an ordered sequence within the feed, while the event remains a separate YouTube control.
Choose an ingest protocol that fits

There is no universally best protocol for every server and media collection. Compare encoder support, latency needs, media format and operational complexity before choosing.

Copyright, reused content and archiving
Only stream video and audio you have the rights or permission to use. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether FFmpeg can transmit a file playlist; a technically valid stream does not establish that the content is authorized or eligible for monetization. Review YouTube’s current policies for your channel and content before broadcasting.
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume, on that basis, that a continuous or looping playlist running longer than 12 hours will be preserved as one complete archive.
