To stream multiple cameras on YouTube, combine the camera feeds into one program with an encoder such as OBS, then send that finished program to YouTube Live Control Room. Cameras can connect as USB video devices, through compatible capture cards, or via a hardware production system. Check compatibility and rehearse the complete setup before your event.
What you need for a multi-camera YouTube stream
- Camera inputs: Identify each camera’s video output and how it can connect to your production computer or production device.
- A way to compose the feeds: OBS can take video sources and arrange them in scenes. A hardware production device may suit setups designed around physical camera inputs; check the exact device’s capabilities.
- An encoder-to-YouTube connection: YouTube Live Control Room provides the stream URL and stream key that the encoder needs.
- A verified, eligible channel and sufficient upload bandwidth: YouTube says channels need verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help; check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio.
YouTube describes encoder streaming as a way to use external audio and video hardware and manage an advanced production, including a few cameras and microphones. Its help also distinguishes encoder, webcam, and mobile streaming workflows. For multiple camera views, an encoder-based production is the practical route.

Choose how each camera connects
USB webcams or cameras recognized as video devices
If a camera appears to your computer as a supported video device, add it in OBS as a video capture source. Confirm the selected device and its available format, resolution, and frame rate. A camera’s connector alone does not guarantee that the computer or OBS can use it as a video source.

HDMI cameras and capture cards
A camera with HDMI output will generally need a compatible capture device to bring its video into OBS, unless a separate production system handles that connection. Match the camera’s output to the capture device’s supported input formats, and check the device’s computer interface, operating-system support, and compatibility with OBS. OBS’s capture guide covers webcams and capture cards as video capture devices and notes that settings may need to match the source.

A capture card is not required for every multi-camera setup. Buy one only after confirming that the connection is needed and that the chosen device supports the camera’s intended resolution and frame rate.
Hardware production or switching device
A hardware device may be appropriate when the production needs physical camera inputs or switching outside the computer. The specific inputs, supported formats, outputs, and YouTube workflow depend on the model; confirm them in that device’s documentation. The available guidance does not establish a universal camera-count limit for OBS or for hardware setups.

Build the camera layouts in OBS
- Connect and verify each camera. Confirm that the computer or capture device recognizes the feed. Resolve any format, resolution, or frame-rate mismatch before building the show.
- Add each feed as a source. In an OBS scene, add the appropriate video capture source and select the camera or capture device. OBS’s Scenes and Sources guide explains how to add, order, show or hide, position, and size sources.
- Create useful scene layouts. Make separate scenes for the shots you need—for example, a wide view, a close-up, or picture-in-picture. Arrange and size each source in the scene, then prepare the layouts in the order you expect to use them.
- Test scene changes and picture. Switch through the prepared scenes and check that the intended camera is visible and framed correctly. Confirm that the computer handles all active sources and encoding without disrupting the output; there is no documented universal threshold for how many feeds a computer can handle.
- Check audio separately. Confirm which microphone or audio source is live, listen for clean sound, and check that scene changes do not leave the stream with unintended audio.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live Control Room
- Confirm streaming eligibility. Verify the channel and check YouTube Studio for live-streaming restrictions. YouTube Help says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not wait until event time to enable it.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream. If scheduling the event, configure it ahead of time so there is room to rehearse.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. Enter the values YouTube provides in the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show or publish it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the composed OBS program and that the picture and audio are correct. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s setup guidance says to wait for the preview to appear before selecting Go live.
- Check the viewer experience. Confirm the stream or scheduled watch page on the devices your audience is likely to use. Once live, monitor both the program output and the YouTube stream.
Set bandwidth expectations and rehearse
Your total outgoing streaming bitrate must fit within the available upload bandwidth. YouTube Help recommends 20% spare upload capacity. Include the primary stream and any active backup feed when assessing the total; a backup also uses bandwidth. The exact bitrate depends on your chosen output settings and is not established here, so use the values appropriate to your resolution, frame rate, and encoder, then verify them in a real rehearsal.
- Test the complete path: camera, capture device if used, OBS scene, encoder connection, and YouTube preview.
- Rehearse scene changes, microphone levels, and any transitions that will happen during the event.
- Check the stream from a viewer’s perspective and keep monitoring picture and sound while live.
- If the connection is unstable, reduce the stream’s total demand or improve available upload capacity, then test again. Do not assume a speed-test result alone guarantees a stable live stream.
Troubleshooting common multi-camera problems
A camera does not appear in OBS
Check that the camera is connected and recognized by the operating system, that the correct capture device is selected, and that the device is not unavailable to OBS. For HDMI, verify the signal path through the capture card and confirm its computer connection and system support.

The capture card shows no picture or an incorrect format
Confirm that the camera’s output format is supported by the capture device and that the selected resolution and frame rate match a supported mode. Check the device’s documentation and OBS source settings; do not assume every HDMI mode is accepted.
YouTube does not show an encoder preview
Recheck that OBS is sending to the stream URL and stream key for the selected YouTube stream, and that the encoder is running. Verify channel eligibility and look for a YouTube Studio status or connection warning before going live.

The stream stutters or disconnects
Compare the total outgoing bitrate with available upload capacity and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Include any backup feed in the calculation. Reduce output demand or improve the connection, then repeat the full test.

Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights and permissions needed for the video, music, and other material in the program. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and restrictions are separate from copyright compliance: an eligible channel can still encounter a copyright or policy issue. Review YouTube’s current rules for the content you plan to use, and do not assume that crediting a rights holder or using a short excerpt automatically grants permission.
For ongoing channels, also distinguish livestream access from monetization eligibility. Reused-content review and other monetization policies may affect a channel’s ability to earn even when a stream can be broadcast. Check YouTube’s current policy guidance for your specific content and channel status.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a multi-camera event, OBS or a hardware production device is still what combines live camera feeds. StreamNeo is for a different use: keeping uploaded video looping as a YouTube livestream, not broadcasting a live camera production. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Learn about StreamNeo or start your free first day.
