Meta does not publish an official Flutter SDK. Treat the bridge as a separate dependency: verify its current native SDK versions, platform support, and streaming API before building around it.
What you need to check before building
DAT connects mobile apps to supported AI glasses and includes video streaming and photo capture. Meta’s toolkit overview describes broader areas such as speech and audio, display, motion, and gestures; its FAQ lists camera, microphone, audio, motion, and IMU for DAT 1.0. Those capability summaries do not guarantee that every glasses model exposes the same features or that every Flutter bridge implements them.

Meta lists Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 and Gen 2, Ray-Ban Meta Display, Oakley Meta HSTN, and Oakley Meta Vanguard as supported devices, while noting that capabilities vary by device. Check the current device and capability information in Meta’s developer documentation before selecting hardware.
- Region: Meta says SDK access is broadly available, but full toolkit capabilities and developer-center access are limited to supported AI-glasses countries. Check Meta’s live country list.
- Phone and OS: Confirm the current minimum iOS and Android requirements in Meta’s documentation and the bridge’s setup guide; they are not established here as fixed version numbers.
- Pairing and registration: Plan for the glasses to be paired with the Meta AI app and for the phone and glasses to complete Meta’s developer registration flow.
- DAT release status: Meta describes DAT 1.0 as a stable supported release, with rollout beginning September 30, 2026. That rollout date does not establish that every developer account, region, or package has access to the same binaries.
Meta’s official iOS CameraAccess sample is a useful reference for native device connection, registration, permissions, live video, photo capture, and media streaming. It demonstrates an iOS native workflow, not a Flutter API, Android implementation, or performance result.

Choose and verify the Flutter bridge
A Flutter package wraps the native SDK and exposes some of its functionality to Dart. The package’s documentation determines the actual Dart calls, rendering method, and platform coverage; Meta’s native toolkit documentation does not guarantee those wrapper details.
| Option to investigate | What its documentation says | What to verify before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
meta_wearables_dat_flutter |
Its package documentation describes an explicitly unofficial bridge for registration, streaming, capture, display access, and mock-device support. The documentation fetched for this article identifies native SDK v0.7.0 and describes preview-era restrictions. | Check the current package release, the native SDK binaries it actually bundles or requires, DAT 1.0 compatibility, iOS/Android parity, and app-distribution terms. Its v0.7.0 and preview-era statements may not reflect Meta’s DAT 1.0 rollout. |
meta_wearables_flutter |
Its package listing describes live MJPEG camera-feed support. The uploader is marked unverified on pub.dev. | Inspect its maintenance history, native dependencies, implementation, supported devices, permission and registration handling, and issue responses. Treat the listing as a lead to assess, not a vetted recommendation. |
For either package, check the latest release date and changelog, exact native SDK version, supported devices and capabilities, preview or stable-release compatibility, texture or frame-access strategy, lifecycle behavior, sample quality, and open issue history. A package’s feature list is a claim about that wrapper, not a Meta guarantee.

Set up the native integration before writing the preview
- Select a bridge and pin a version. Read its current setup guide and inspect which native SDK version it uses. Confirm that the package supports the target platforms and DAT release you intend to ship.
- Complete iOS and Android configuration. Follow the package’s current platform instructions and Meta’s platform documentation for app registration, deep-link handling, and required permissions. Avoid copying old manifest or permission snippets: requirements can change with the native SDK and OS.
- Register and pair the devices. Enable Developer Mode and complete Meta’s registration flow for the phone and glasses. Use the bridge’s documented registration APIs rather than assuming the iOS sample’s calls have Dart equivalents.
- Request camera access and handle the result. Present permission requests at the appropriate point in the app flow. Handle denial, revocation, device disconnection, and registration errors as normal states, with a clear way to retry or reconnect.
- Start streaming and render using the package’s documented surface. Some bridges may provide a Flutter texture; others may expose frames or use a different mechanism. Use only the route the selected package documents. Do not assume a texture, frame format, or MJPEG feed is part of DAT itself.
Optimize for a responsive preview without assuming a specification
The official material covered here does not establish a universal camera resolution, frame rate, latency, codec, or maximum stream duration. Nor does it provide a performance result for a particular Flutter package. Measure the behavior of your chosen bridge on the target phone and glasses instead of presenting a guessed number as a device specification.
- Keep the preview path simple. If the package offers a native-backed texture, evaluate it against any frame-by-frame Dart route it also supports. Avoid adding conversions or copies unless the feature requires them; verify the actual data path in the package documentation and on-device profiling.
- Do not queue stale preview work. If the bridge delivers frames to Dart, check whether its API lets the app discard or replace pending preview frames. A growing queue can make a preview feel delayed even when frames continue arriving. Do not apply this advice to an API that does not expose frame delivery or queue behavior.
- Separate preview from capture or processing. Keep optional image analysis, saving, and UI work from blocking the visible preview where the package and native APIs permit it. Confirm that background work does not retain frames or keep streaming active after the user leaves the screen.
- Measure the real trade-offs. On each target combination, record preview responsiveness, dropped or delayed frames if observable, CPU and memory use, thermal behavior, and battery use during representative sessions. Report the device, software versions, package version, test conditions, and measurement method with any published figures.
- Use supported controls only. If the bridge exposes stream-quality or processing options, test them on the actual hardware and confirm their meaning in its documentation. Do not promise that Flutter can set resolution, frame rate, or codec unless the API explicitly exposes that control.
Test reconnects, permissions, and long sessions
Meta’s Mock Device Kit can simulate device state, permissions, and media streaming without physical glasses. Meta says it currently does not support display glasses. Use it to exercise app logic, but validate the complete integration on compatible physical hardware; Meta recommends on-device testing for full integration.

- Test first-time registration, a previously registered device, camera-permission denial, permission changes in phone settings, and a disconnected or unavailable device.
- Background and resume the app, navigate away from and back to the preview, and test phone lock/unlock. Confirm the stream stops or resumes according to the app’s intended behavior and the bridge’s documented lifecycle support.
- Test repeated connect, start, stop, and reconnect cycles. Ensure errors produce a recoverable state rather than a frozen preview or a stream that remains active invisibly.
- Run sustained sessions on physical hardware and observe responsiveness, resource use, heat, and battery. Record the exact phone, glasses model, OS, DAT SDK, Flutter bridge version, and test duration for any conclusions.
What you can and cannot claim about the result
A working native DAT sample establishes that Meta documents a native camera-access flow; it does not validate a community wrapper or show how that wrapper renders video in Flutter. Likewise, a package listing that advertises live streaming does not establish current DAT 1.0 compatibility, uniform model support, or measured performance. State those details only after checking the package’s current implementation and testing the target hardware.
For release planning, verify Meta’s current developer access and distribution requirements as well as the package’s own terms and native dependency. The preview-era restriction described in the meta_wearables_dat_flutter documentation may be stale in light of Meta’s DAT 1.0 rollout; do not repeat it as a current Meta-wide rule without confirmation.
